Apostles (Latest Update 0.10: July 2023)

I played through this game to what I assume is the end & I did enjoy it for the most part. I loved that each playable character has their own background music to accompany them & switching between characters to get the full story is rather brilliant.

However I do have some criticism if you’ll indulge me & I’ll be as fair as I can…

  • The 3 Niss being named after 3 of the 7 deadly sins is a little off-putting for me, but that’s just me…
  • The ambiguous nature of the protagonists is very off-putting. They seem to be simultaneously sinister & caring at the same time making it difficult to discern if they are good or evil.
  • I only saw 1 instance of WG in the entire game. This was very disappointing.
  • The fact that there are custom sprites in this makes it confusing when non-custom sprites are used in certain places (such as using the damaged sprite for the mayor in bed).
  • Lastly, the walls of text… I get that at certain times its easier to explain what’s going on since the sprites don’t have enough details for certain emotes, but having not 1, but several walls of text was too much for me. Maybe you could hire an artist to make pictures that show extra details instead.

These are my main complaints. I apologize if you are offended as that was not my intention. Thank you for your time & have a blessed day!

I think the WG is gonna be a slow burn through the town instead of rapid-fire fattenings.
They actually make allusions to people seeming “healthier” after the big feast event.

Glad you had fun, all the music is listed in the credits in case you want to download them!
And never fear about giving positive or negative criticism to me, all feedback is good feedback to me. Though that being said I don’t think I can offer many satisfactory answers to your criticisms this time around.
-Points for getting the names real meaning, I wasn’t sure how many people would! And I think you are only the second so far. Not sure why it’s a put-off though, gluttony, lust and sloth seem to fit in on this site.
-Don’t take this the wrong way but I take your critique as a 100% complement, your words describe everything I wanted the missionaries to appear to the player. Kind and cruel, weak and powerful, good and evil. What is real and what is a mask? It was meant to be severely uncomfortable when the previously humble missionaries swat the slavers like flies (especially if you choose lily.) I WANTED you to be off-put, even though you’re the player you don’t know what game the missionaries plan to play.
-Don’t worry there will be many more and soon!
-There aren’t many non-custom sprites almost everything was made using RPG maker save a few belly models and Sebastian’s closed eyes sprite. But I do agree that used the damaged sprite for sleeping is a bit lazy and will invest the time in finding a better template.
-Well writing has always been my favorite part of the process so this will always be a mainly text/sprite game. And as nice as that would be to couple my writing with art, on average an artist would charge around $30-50 per scene and there were 7-8 in this update with just as many planned for the next update and the ones after…I’m afraid I don’t have that kind of money to drop on what is admittedly just a weekend hobby.
You have a good day as well, and happy new year!

That’s right, while the weight it will snowball a bit, hopefully no one expects any character to become bed bound immobile within the next update.
Although several people have voiced mentions in wanting little side quests to liven things up to add to the game so perhaps something quick can be done there. I’m open to suggestions for one off stories that could fit in the game if anyone wants to voice there own ideas.
OH and the “healthier” is actually healthier right now, as evident by the weigh in room, pretty much everyone in town was significantly malnourished. Though for those with magnifying glasses at home can note that Pamela’s face went from gaunt to slightly more filled by the end of the game.

Yeah Within 9 to 10 is much more reasonable

i’m sure you were told this a lot in the 124 replies preceding mine, but this game is by far the best experience i’ve ever had on quest, this easily qualifies for one the best games to come out of this website.
I’ve been ritually coming to check on this project page ever since i found it on december, i just wanted to say that i loved the game so far and i eagerly wait for the next update, take your time but if you can let us know of any news you may have on the project, i’m sure i’m not the only one who can’t wait to hear more about it.
Godspeed.

Aww, thank you for the kind words, I hope the continued story holds up to the praise you’ve given. Comments like this are always motivation to keep on working!
I keep a journal update on the progress of the next update on DA. So far I am 6/17…which is not nearly as far along as I hopped. BUT some good news is that I tried to have a lit less walking up to door and talking simulator to make the next part more dynamic. As well as the first well signs of weight gain.
End of February was not great for working, but I’ve put in some good work starting in march and hope to be able to give a full release by April! Thank you again for the kind words. Oh and if there is anything you wanted to see added be it fetish or story wise feel free to suggest!

Friend who has done some Beta testing and story help on Apostles just posted the first chapter of their new story. Trust me if you like Lily, you’ll like the story. It’s only in it’s first chapter as of today, so check the rest of the gallery for some BIGGER stories. logitechk1 - Hobbyist, Writer | DeviantArt

Super excited for the final project, i actually made this account specifically to comment on this project. It’s probably the most in depth of any game I’ve played from this site. The story is so much more than just WG porn. If you’re skimming through projects looking for a game to play i highly recommend you try this one out.

I was really impressed when I first played this game, I typically don’t expect most games on this site to have an actual story, much less a good one that I can actually get invested in. I’m super excited for the full game.

will there be weight gain this time around?

I-I resent that! 0.1 had…1 optional weight gain scene in it during it’s content of 3 hours.
But in all seriousness yes there is a bit of weight gain in this one, if you want to know where look to Sophia

What’s new in the game because there is a lot of reading and I don’t know English

I have completed .2 and i have to say this was a good update, not the best but i will get into that
SPOILERS FOR .2, DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T PLAYED IT YET AND GIVE A SHIT
this is all my opinion so please don’t take this as objective fact

Pros:

-The cave scene/monologue with sebastian and samantha. just in general great writing in that scene, you really out did yourself there, even though it is rpgmaker sprites, the writing was really good at hitting the nail on the head, Auburnwoods was a town of people ready to die or split off, why the adventurer’s and slavers were there in the first place. This scene especially was good since

-Sebastian in general. In .1 i felt that sebastian was the weakest link, but sebastian with his blunt honesty and expert manipulation (To the point where he could scheme the schemer) in Heather showed really made him hold his own. This feels like Sebastians Update, since Gretel and L really take a backseat during this and don’t get as many great moments in this Update.

-Development and “Development”. I enjoyed the bits of lore we received from this update, especially since it took theories that i had out back and shot em, which is good since it makes me now have to re-evaluate. L’s part as a person in an identity crisis. Which was interesting and definitely makes sense given her powers. The Sophia story really gave the people what they love, and the updated sprites really helped show her as the fastest growing member of the Auburnwoods and also the foreshadowing of what’s next for the town

-Pulp Ficiton-esque timeline. it was cool, realizing that there was a specific order that was “Chronological” that i didn’t play in prefering to go from characters i thought would gain the least in this update (Dina and Fresha) to most (Mauve and Heather) as a way to “save the best for last”, especially since the adventurer’s were in the (I don’t think we really got a name for it so for meme’s sake) Shadow Realm, which meant that the apostles could raise hell on them with no reprecussions.

Cons:
-Tales from the Auburnwoods. I personally did not like the format of this update, but i could be alone on that, the whole staging about the 3 characters watching over what they did last month felt more like a bottle episode from a TV series.
-Byzantium. A con but a minor one since it’s more of a question, we have violet in the Sisyphean Slaughterhouse, you have the siblings who are now pets to Sebastian the Thot Destroyer and L the Enchanting since they were pigish in their lives, but where is that mage? They bring him up multiple times, but i don’t believe we get a straight answer, perhaps answered in a later version? Which mainly leads to
-Missing Characters. again, minor con but still one that leaves me guessing, Paul the slaver was also seen in a karmic situation, where he became a slave to his own body, as well as the other slave girls being embraced, i am curious as to what is happening with them, only a minor con since i presume, same with byzantiums mysterious dissapearance it will be accounted for when the time comes (.3?)

Overall, it was still a good update that i enjoyed thoroughly for the new bits of lore and gain content, but the sebastian parts outclassed the others by a landslide in my own opinion, I give the update an 8/10, the style of presentation felt like this was more of a lore cram content for .3’s potential fetish buffet(pardon the pun) It met my hype, but it isn’t the BEHEMOTH of plot and content that .1 was. Although, i am still VERY much excited for where .3 and on will lead this story, especially since in retrospect the score may raise once we get more context for .2 and the eventual finished game.

Tl;Dr: Loved Sebastian in this update, didn’t love the bottle episode feel, eager to find out about characters not brought up in this update, 8/10, hype was met and i’m excited for .3

P.S A pro for the game in general is definitely replay value, i replayed .1 recently and i was surprised by how much picking a new character in certain scenes can differ how you see the town, and what extra pieces of the puzzle can be added when you replay it each time.

I’m so glad you’re still working on this. This shit kicks ass. Also loved that you made a save to start with the update content!

(edit, I liked the format of the update! It was pretty interesting. Could have gone with a bit more ‘gameplay’ instead of ‘cutscenes’ but overall I really liked it)

I’ve encountered a bug while making food for one-of-the-green-haired-sisters-that-I-already-forgot the-name If you make her eggs before the timer starts to go down and dump it, you can’t make another dish and you won’t be able to go downstairs. Good thing I saved before doing that though…

Thanks you bundles for the detailed review!

Glad to hear you liked Sebastian and Sam, I really wanted to find a good fit for Sebastian plea, it would go against the story for Sam to turn around on her attitude on the fly, but I didn’t want to go TO over the top with Sebastian either since it would fit his character.
And honestly it’s hard for me to judge when my writing is ‘good’ vs ‘bad’ so I’m glad that particular part I was fearful about turned around to be a favorite!
And more then happy to give Sebas some time spent in the light!

Glad my lore can both people invested and guessing to how things fit together, lots of fun sprinkling in little story details that will go unnoticed for now but turn out to be massive revelations updates down the line. AND JUST IN CASE ANYONE WORRIES I DO HAVE A PLAN IN MIND I’m not just spouting out random story ‘lore’ just to create a fake mystery to it. Looking at you “Lost.”
And thank Cjfront for the sprites! I would be lost without them and his help has opened up so much more that I can do now!

And the timeline was fun, I don’t know if anyone has noticed but next to weight gain telling stories out of order is my fetish.

Oh and addressing you bottom PS here, thank you. That actually is one of my favorite parts as well. It takes 3x the time obviously to do the same story 3 ways, but it’s a lot of fun from a writing perspective to have 1 problem solved 3 different ways by each of the missionaries, showing off there differences both in powers and character.

Cons-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO my game is perfect! you are banned!
Just kidding.

Shame though the format wasn’t as well liked, but a fair criticism. I get that having it like this might lower the stakes a bit by having our three mainly spending time just watching the town like Tv.
I was trying to have it be a sort of way to once and for all show off all the little differences in the characters. But don’t worry, this was a one time format so next update will be back to the norm.

As for the other Cons, I won’t spoil anything but they WILL be addressed in 0.3 and 0.4. Though I will point out just in case you got some clues for what happens to the slavers in 0.2, ie those two ‘thugs’ who came to rough up the inn in Veronica’s story and the blue haired elf in Steph’s memory were the slavers post ‘treatments’ so you might be able to guess what’s gonna happen from there.

I’ll take 8/10 happily but will work hard to make it a 10/10 for 0.3 THanks again once more for playing!
