I have completed .2 and i have to say this was a good update, not the best but i will get into that
SPOILERS FOR .2, DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T PLAYED IT YET AND GIVE A SHIT
this is all my opinion so please don’t take this as objective fact
Pros:
-The cave scene/monologue with sebastian and samantha. just in general great writing in that scene, you really out did yourself there, even though it is rpgmaker sprites, the writing was really good at hitting the nail on the head, Auburnwoods was a town of people ready to die or split off, why the adventurer’s and slavers were there in the first place. This scene especially was good since
-Sebastian in general. In .1 i felt that sebastian was the weakest link, but sebastian with his blunt honesty and expert manipulation (To the point where he could scheme the schemer) in Heather showed really made him hold his own. This feels like Sebastians Update, since Gretel and L really take a backseat during this and don’t get as many great moments in this Update.
-Development and “Development”. I enjoyed the bits of lore we received from this update, especially since it took theories that i had out back and shot em, which is good since it makes me now have to re-evaluate. L’s part as a person in an identity crisis. Which was interesting and definitely makes sense given her powers. The Sophia story really gave the people what they love, and the updated sprites really helped show her as the fastest growing member of the Auburnwoods and also the foreshadowing of what’s next for the town
-Pulp Ficiton-esque timeline. it was cool, realizing that there was a specific order that was “Chronological” that i didn’t play in prefering to go from characters i thought would gain the least in this update (Dina and Fresha) to most (Mauve and Heather) as a way to “save the best for last”, especially since the adventurer’s were in the (I don’t think we really got a name for it so for meme’s sake) Shadow Realm, which meant that the apostles could raise hell on them with no reprecussions.
Cons:
-Tales from the Auburnwoods. I personally did not like the format of this update, but i could be alone on that, the whole staging about the 3 characters watching over what they did last month felt more like a bottle episode from a TV series.
-Byzantium. A con but a minor one since it’s more of a question, we have violet in the Sisyphean Slaughterhouse, you have the siblings who are now pets to Sebastian the Thot Destroyer and L the Enchanting since they were pigish in their lives, but where is that mage? They bring him up multiple times, but i don’t believe we get a straight answer, perhaps answered in a later version? Which mainly leads to
-Missing Characters. again, minor con but still one that leaves me guessing, Paul the slaver was also seen in a karmic situation, where he became a slave to his own body, as well as the other slave girls being embraced, i am curious as to what is happening with them, only a minor con since i presume, same with byzantiums mysterious dissapearance it will be accounted for when the time comes (.3?)
Overall, it was still a good update that i enjoyed thoroughly for the new bits of lore and gain content, but the sebastian parts outclassed the others by a landslide in my own opinion, I give the update an 8/10, the style of presentation felt like this was more of a lore cram content for .3’s potential fetish buffet(pardon the pun) It met my hype, but it isn’t the BEHEMOTH of plot and content that .1 was. Although, i am still VERY much excited for where .3 and on will lead this story, especially since in retrospect the score may raise once we get more context for .2 and the eventual finished game.
Tl;Dr: Loved Sebastian in this update, didn’t love the bottle episode feel, eager to find out about characters not brought up in this update, 8/10, hype was met and i’m excited for .3
P.S A pro for the game in general is definitely replay value, i replayed .1 recently and i was surprised by how much picking a new character in certain scenes can differ how you see the town, and what extra pieces of the puzzle can be added when you replay it each time.
