I am going to tell that AI is better then Daz 3D and I have no idea how the hell so many people voted for Daz 3D shitty models with their shitty polygons limitations. And no, I am not some hater who just can’t render something good in Daz 3D, I think pictures which I rendered is at least fine coldsteelj - Hobbyist, Artist | DeviantArt
It looks like only 1% of all game developers who use Daz 3D try to make good looking morphs.
Even if you make good looking morphs you can’t make something really good with big body shapes without breaking Genesis human model since you can’t just add needed amount of polygons to it for better specific body details. You are forced to use subdivide polygons option which don’t help a lot since it just smooth all corners.
I think the best solution to create an good looking characters pictures for video game if you can’t draw would be using both: Daz 3D plus AI. First you render picture in Daz 3D and then use AI over this picture to remove this “uncanny valley” effect and add needed details to body. This way, the problem with strong randomization of the AI result can be solved and creator get exactly what he wanted.
@Galactose - No, I don’t have any experience - Yes, I do have a clear vision of how the game will be structured. I won’t reveal anything though, I don’t want to spoiler too much.
I could just copy the other games, but I don’t want to. I’ve chosen to conduct these polls because I don’t want to take anything for granted. Some polls will seem trivial to some, but in my opinion they aren’t, and the results so far seem to prove I’m right. For instance, did you expect as much as 20% of people looked for an intentional weight gain? I didn’t. Intentional gains almost don’t exist in other games, the only one I remember is Sophia’s one in Apostles. I also found quite surprising as much as 33% of people consider Daz and AI about the same - seems your opinion wasn’t as widely shared as you thought.
Of course I will explore a range of possibilities, but these polls help me determine which ones are worth focusing on, and to what extent.
@coldsteelj - Both AI and Daz have limitations in my opinion.
AI’s quality is still not that good. Also with anime art (best choice I think) the female characters proportions are strange - tiny arms, huge boobs, narrow waist, wide thighs, big ass. It’s not ideal for realistic women, and fixing these issues isn’t easy.
That said, AI art is evolving really quickly. AI images are not as bad as some time ago, they’re improving. I’ve created tons of decent-quality images like this one.
The only issue with the above image is the double navel, which is very easy to correct.
(Don’t worry, everyone - I’ll respect the poll and use DAZ for the art, I just wanted to show this. I may consider using AI for a couple storylines in the future, but the majority will have DAZ)
Daz, on the other hand, is top notch quality, but it has a major drawback: it is clearly not designed for fat women. Daz fat women are very far from perfect. The more they weigh, the lower the image quality is.
I would argue the opinion is still widely shared that Daz 3D is better than AI based on the poll, but you are definitely correct that it isn’t universal. IMO, for me the real problem with AI art is that every single one looks anime style and thus looks basically the same mediocre quality image. The image you posted is generally fine I guess (though the AI faces never work for me and the proportions are off), but it could come from any game in the world and I wouldn’t have any idea. To me, the Daz models evoke way more realism and are also much more distinctive. I could pick virtually every character in the Weighting Game or D.I.E.T. out of a lineup. I could never do that for AI games.
I did actually expect the intentional gains piece though, especially as one of the people who voted for it! Intentional gains generally evoke different emotions. Some of the hottest gainers online have been those who started little but wanted to get fat from the beginning. Going from skinny → chubby → fat as someone intentionally doing it raises so many more interesting scenes and allows you to experience things completely differently that someone who unintentionally gets there.
Either way, as long as you are okay building a game based on the results of a poll, definitely respect you seeing what everyone is interested in and building a game accordingly!
Of course Daz is much more liked, but there’s a very significant amount of people (30%) who consider AI and Daz equal, and a very unexpected 16% of people who prefer AI. Just 51% of people say Daz is better than AI.
Personally, I like them both. You talk about the AI art you saw around. I agree, it’s mediocre, but I don’t blame it on the AI itself. You have to study, invest time, test with different prompts and settings and create lots of images to get good results. Most AI artists don’t do this.
Daz is much better of course, but its huge limitation is it’s not made for fat characters, and it shows. Even great artists like Tiggertoo or Coastalbunny couldn’t solve this problem - you can see imperfections in their Daz art.
You mention the image you posted as being a decent quality image. Personally, I’m not a fan of it. The proportions are off, the face doesn’t at all look like a fat girl’s face, and it feels very cartoony. So for me personally, it doesn’t really do anything for me, and I would honestly prefer no art to that art as I think that art just doesn’t capture large ladies well. Daz has limitations there, but it feels significantly more life like to me.
Anyways, the AI art topic has been beaten to death, so I don’t want to hijack your thread any further and prevent you from getting more input on your game. So I’ll leave it here and look forward to any additional polls or work you do towards your game!
not developing any game myself right now, but VN that can be example is from Bobothesecondtwo on patreon (not sure what his name was on here) and his “Fill me up” it was not using DAZ3d but different renders. When he tryed to replace it with AI art there were a lot of complaints that the art is not consistant and while AI picture generating came a long way in that year or so its still really inconsistant in my experience
You really do have to be careful with the mentality of not creating a game for yourself. It’s a lot easier to lose steam when developing a game that you’re not really into.
Seconded with the post above me. Make the game for you first, and us second. It’s a lot easier to stay on focus and enjoying the project if it’s something you wanna make for yourself.
@Galactose@Parnash - It’s the opposite, I’d risk to lose steam developing stuff for myself. Some time ago I started writing a WG story for myself and over time I lost interest. It’s like reading a book you’ve written yourself — you already know what’s in it and what to expect.
The latest polls showed results I expected, with overwhelming support for Daz and weight gains that start as unintentional and eventually become deliberate. The game art will be created with Daz and most storylines (including the first one) will feature unintentional weight gain which eventually turns intentional!
I won’t forget about the minorities and will make an effort to satisfy them in later versions. The second version of the game will feature intentional weight gain. There are very few instances of intentional weight gain, it’s something this community really lacks, that’s why I’ve decided to satisfy its fans as early.
Two new polls now.
First poll: About the narrative focus on weight gain, would you like it…
Heavily focused on weight gain
Focused on weight gain
Equally focused on weight gain and story
Focused on story
Heavily focused on story
0voters
Second poll: While most games include eating scenes, sometimes there’s not a strong focus on it. About seeing what and how much the gaining characters eat, and seeing how this changes over time, you are…
Since it is hard to capture in a simple vote, I figured I would provide some context behind my answers to help provide a little bit more color/flavor.
Generally, the better a story is the more story I will enjoy with the weight gain. Obviously the story will still somewhat revolve around weight gain (people aren’t going to read 5,000 words about someone’s office job with no mention of weight gain topics), but with a good story the weight gain doesn’t have to be as quite of a driving force and it allows more room to broach topics with some weight gain but not completely driven by it. For example, if an office setting is well fleshed out and written, it can be a really good place to see some impacts of a character’s weight (struggling with stairs, outgrowing chairs, sneaking food at work, coworker comments on weight, etc.). But without a good story, those more indirect weight gain scenes don’t work nearly as well.
With eating, I’m not into a stuffing game, so I don’t want a huge emphasis or paragraphs and paragraphs on every single bit of food someone ate (there are other games for that). That said, I think small references to how that changes (“she couldn’t believe she was now eating two burgers in a meal like it was an appetizer”) or small scenes here or there can definitely work wonders! It gives some idea to the fact that the character got fat by eating large quantities and didn’t just magically go up in size overnight.
The narrative focus of the stories will range from equally focused on weight gain and story to heavily focused on weight gain. The first and second storylines will be equally focused on weight gain and story.
Regarding the second poll, I needed it to gauge how much eating-related content to create. With 47% voting “Very interested,” the answer is: plenty!
Of course I will also satisfy those who prefer less eating content, most of it will be skippable.
Some more infos about the game:
Release date: There won’t be any deadline. I have no idea how long it could take. All I can say is it won’t be released anytime soon. My first version is not going to be a glitchy content-lacking mess; it will be something worth playing and will feature a complete storyline, so it will take time.
Work schedule: My work will be divided into two stages: 1) Dialogue with the community, the current stage. I didn’t want to create a game for myself, nor did I want to just mimic other games. My aim was to do my own research on what people enjoy, questioning assumptions and considering niche preferences. 2) Work on the game, learning Daz and Ren’Py along the way.
Art preview: I will post something here now and then.
Interactivity: The ideal approach, and I think most agree, is to include both interactivity and content. Simply pressing buttons to see sprites grow has its limitations, and a “pure” visual novel with no interactivity also has drawbacks. My game will incorporate interactivity and content.
Repetitiveness: I thought of a way to eliminate it. I won’t spoiler anything, when I’ll release the game you’ll tell me if you like my method or not.
Two new polls:
First poll: Weight gain can have a positive, neutral or negative impact, or both positive and negative impacts.
With a positive impact the weight gain will be seen as the gaining character blooming.
With a negative impact the weight gain will have bad consequences and themes like social issues, health issues, humiliation etc. will be explored. You’d like the weight gain to have a…
Positive impact
Negative impact
Both positive and negative impact
Neutral impact

Second poll: This may be trivial, but as I said I don’t want to take anything for granted. Realistic weight gain here is almost always achieved through fast food and laziness. I’m wondering if there’s someone looking for something different. I refer in particular to the food - there’s a world of flavours outside fast food. So, here’s the poll: Do you want the classic combo (fast food + laziness) or would you like to see something different?
Give me the classic, tons of fast food and a lazy ass for the win!
I think a lot of games just focus on the positive aspects, so we don’t get a lot of games with even light negative aspects. Not that I think the game needs to be super hyper focused on health pieces or things like that, but I think it would be fun to see some negative aspects like social aspects and humiliation. There aren’t that many opportunities in games to get to see a character struggling with comments or having her life impacted.
For the second poll, I’m curious what you mean by “something different”. I’m not a magic person, so I wouldn’t want to see much if any of that. But I would be curious what type of other things you have in mind.
The polls above were very generic, maybe too much.
You are correct, “Negative impact” can mean a lot of things, some of course more liked than others. Probably, for example, humiliation and social issues are liked by more people than mobility issues, which in turn are liked by more people than health issues.
Maybe later I will make a poll about which negative impacts you people would like to see.
About the second poll no, I wasn’t talking about magic, sci-fi etc. I was talking about this:
In the many games I’ve seen, fast food is depicted as your only possibility if you’re a foodie, the only tasty thing in the world, but that’s very far from reality. There’re lots of culinary possibilities, which in other games are usually not explored. Also in the real world the body of someone eating just fast food would deteriorate and have serious issues.
I was wondering if anyone wanted to see something more realistic: the character gaining weight by eating anything and everything and always having new culinary adventures. Of course, the character would still get an absurdly high amount of calories. You seem very active and know this community much better than me (I’ve just been playing the games), what do you think?
Maybe it wasn’t a possibility worth exploring, maybe the second poll was trivial, but I can’t be sure if I don’t ask.
As I said, I’m taking nothing for granted. In making this game I’m ignoring my personal tastes and everything I saw in the other games. I want the community to tell me what to put in the game.
This gif was made in august 2023, it is rendered frame by frame in daz3d then fed into stable diffusion img2img frame by frame… I believe I used canny but maybe not.
I don’t know if I ever posted this before because I wasn’t actually that happy with the results.
TLDR: is this what you are suggesting people do?
edit: since the gif doesn’t loop, if you want to see any frames of the animation other than the first/last frames I recommend opening the image in a new tab and it’ll play all the frames.
I think that type of thing would be well received. No reason I think that you couldn’t have a foodie that gets quite large from lots of food at nice meals. Not quite to the same level, but The Weighting Game isn’t based around fast food yet is possibly the most popular game around. I think plenty of people would enjoy that type of gain.
