This is a really cool concept, and I can definitely see the inspiration from Eat the Dungeon. The story behind it is really unique and one of this game’s strongest points. You have a great foundation for it being “very bare bones” as you said. The gameplay is quite enjoyable, if not a tad hands-free. It feels a lot like a mobile game or Facebook game, but it doesn’t have the annoying energy-based thing that a lot of those types of games have.
For improvements, it’s hard to say exactly what could be improved on, since chances are most of what I do have to say here are already on their way to being improved. That being said, the weight gain feels a little… off. Like, they almost exclusively gain it in their stomachs even when they’re not full (though I did notice the bit that was added to their face which was a nice touch). Having it spread out more would greatly benefit the game. Or having each doll gain it in different ways (I could see Aria (I think that was her name… the starting doll) being all-around in terms of gain, whereas Rosa feels like one who would be more like hourglassy with a small potbelly to me, for example) (and don’t feel obligated to follow the part in parentheses, as that was just what I pictured for them - you may have other ideas that would work just as well or better and I wouldn’t want to be the reason that changes).
Also, while the gameplay was enjoyable overall, I also felt it wasn’t really involved enough. It kind of felt like I just clicked to start a level and it was all done for me. Now if I remember correctly, there are things I can do as a player besides just sit back and watch, but it was all done well enough that I really didn’t feel like I had a reason to do anything. Making the food more difficult to (b)eat or the recovery cost money would be a great way to incentivize using the combat to its full potential if you wanted this to be the way combat works in the finished project. If not, then I anxiously await what you have in mind for it instead.
All-in-all, this is a fantastic start! I look forward to playing this game more as it progresses!
EDIT: One more thing I forgot to mention! It would be cool if each doll had their own strengths. I mean, Rosa seemed to have a Spicy resistance from my own experience, but it was unclear what exactly that meant. Having more clear-cut and pronounced differences between dolls is something I feel would be a nice improvement.
As the self-proclaimed chief playtester, I know slightly more than the average joe about FFL and planned features.
Most dolls that have been made already have this same general shape, but I’m sure later girls could have more varied shapes. As I’m quite partial to the current status quo, I hadn’t really thought too hard about it though. It’s a good idea, to be sure.
Dolls are planned to be more diverse in their attack speed/strength/etc, as well as some dolls later being much better at dealing with certain enemy types, including things like spice resistance.
Of course, this is a really early prototype, so it’s very much a work in progress. Thanks for the kind words, I’m sure Fiery will be thrilled. =)
Well, since you asked for feedback I am here. I like the game mechanics and everything works well, but since this is a weight gain game the main reward of the player is to view like characters gain weight. Unfortunately personally for me characters arts don’t look good enough so that I want to keep playing and feed them. If in the feature you improve your drawing that would be an awesome game.
That’s because it is designed to work on mobiles. You can play it on your phone’s browser too.
Thats the plan, but I’m a complete newbie at drawing, so it was a miracle that the characters that I drew didn’t look like stick figures. I’m slowly improving, but not fast enough I think.
The combat system needs a lot of work, but right now the main mechanics are swapping. In a long mission with lots of battles (01-04 for example), you want to balance out your forces, and swap those that are full to the back to let them digest. I’m also going to lock down squads so players can’t call in new dolls during a mission, only predetermined squads so that you will need to conserve your doll’s energy.
Each doll will have their own special ability that you can activate in battle. Also shield dolls are coming, they can tank loads of damage. And support dolls that buffs surrounding dolls are wip.
Thank you guys for the feedback! I’m working hard to make the next release
Right now, there are two types of traits: resistance and bonus
Resistance: dolls without the specific resistance to a type of food (spicy or freezing) will receive a hit or freezing status effects that will stun them for a bit
Bonus: Dolls with bonuses to certain types of foods will receive boosts to attack speed and damage when attacking those types of foods
Grease bonus: for food that was fried or has a lot of fat (fast food, BBQ, …)
Plant bonus: fruits and veggies
Sweet bonus: candies, cake, sugary foods
Right now each trait is determined by the colors on the doll. Dolls without any traits will have a black and white color scheme. Note that dolls with special traits tend to have inferior overall stats compared to generalist dolls to balance out.
Ex: a doll that has resistance to spiciness and bonus for plant based foods will have a color scheme of red and green.
For difficult maps where enemies come in overwhelming numbers, I want to give the player some form of support. Here are the current suggestions:
Air Strike: can choose different payloads:
spices: increase doll’s attack rate for hit enemies, but deals no damage
napalm: gives crispy status to targets (increase attack rate for dolls), but fire damage dealt waste some calories
explosives: most wasteful option all damage dealt are wasted calories, but most powerful
Bulldozer: summons a bulldozer that pummels the enemy line, pushing a portion of them back and giving your squad some breathing room
Drones: deploy small precision drone attackers (with the same type of payloads) that persistently attacks random targets
Pets Mechanic
Another form of support could be pets (dogs, cars, birds), they should be summoned at anytime to target specific enemies (bosses, support). I’m thinking of giving the pets low health but high agility so they can dodge attacks, but they have low stomach capacities so players should consider using them at the right time.
I need your feedback
What do you think about the above proposal for new game mechanics?
I think the dolls themselves already represent the humanoid weight gain elements in my game. Dolls that have their fatness level up are already considered to be promoted already. I would like to experiment with non-humanoid weight gain such as pets, or even AIs (stuffing them with new data or such)
I mean four legged furry animal type pets. I think it’s a little weird. I don’t really care to see weight gain on a dog or cat.
Anime catgirls, sure. But not real ones.
