Gain of Life: A weight gain life simulator [v0.50.0]

I found the update small apart from the fact that the Sprite of the main character increased I expected a lot more stuff, like in the July Update.
I agree with you.
I currently subscribe to the 10 Euros and for me 10 Euros is a bit expensive to convert to my Real currency.
10Euro = 66 reais.
I wanted more dialogues for other characters and that their weight reflected in that, for example.
Jane complaining that she’s too big or giving hints or even Jessica etc.
About the restaurant it’s nice that you own it but I can’t see the dressings increase more or even see them going there, it would be nice if you could see them increase or even size.
But overall everything is “Ok”.

I’ll keep my feedback short and sweet. The overall format of the game is great, you’ve got the right ingredients. I’ve been a subscriber a couple of times but I last cancelled because of the relative cost of the subscription to other projects, but also because the character updates seemed to be relatively minor. I figured I’d cancel for a few months and wait for three or four weight stages, and then resub so it would feel more end-to-end in terms of the gain.

I appreciate the additional job systems and stuff. The biggest issue earlier was how grindy it was to gain. I found two ways to hack around this - one for the MC - to get kidnapped by the witch and be force fed to gain weight stages. And two, for the other characters (especially before you modified it to make it easier to make the gym girl gain, but I never validated this) - I would go through the python code and modify all of your algorithms to make it easier to make characters gain. Without this, it took bloody hours upon hours to make the gym chick gain. The same went for others, so I modified some of those values, too.

I realise the intent of the game was to try to make it as realistic as possible. I think you could easily modify your variables so you can have an easy/casual mode and a “realistic” mode if you really want to keep the grind element. Maybe add some kind of bonus for keeping the grind. But nobody wants to have another job when they’re trying to relax.

Noted them, thank you for reporting

You can ignore this error, though it might not show all mails. I will fix this error within the next days.

Understandable, what is considered a “good” update? Is there something specific you’d like to see or just in general?

That’s a lot of feedback, I put it in my tojo document and think about solutions. Since you suggested a lot of solutions, I will talk about them.

You can choose how long you’d like to work by choosing a shift. Changing this would throw away a lot of done work and doesn’t seem to solve a problem

Why would you do that? It makes sense that you can spam a job, I might add something like stress, which has an impact on your health.

I’m working on them. Unluckily I am more a developer, maybe a bit of a designer, but I am not a good story writer. If anybody is eager to help and wants to write some stories, please contact me. I’d appreciate it a lot

This sounds logical to do. Will adjust this.

There is actually already a friends system included for some NPCs, but never really used. I will extend and use these systems more often.

I think it is a nice and logical way to save money. I will make you automatically buy a meal ticket if you don’t have any left.

This is going and already planned to be extended a lot over time.

Will try my best

Heavier stages will come for sure.

Will think about redoing her sprites, after taking a look. I cannot remember her sprites being weird.

This algorithm is adjusted version by version, it’s just very hard to find the perfect numbers. Problematic is that there are people criticizing the opposite. Somebody suggested game settings, which sounds awesome to me!

This is already on my good list: Checking for an update takes time, because of the algorithm and this short, but noticeable time can be very annoying while eating. That’s the reason, why I removed it. I have to implement an algorithm checking if an update is required and optimize the sprite updating. This will be readded then.

Love the idea, will add this.

Error already reported and noted. Will be fixed within the next days.

This is because college has a lot of APIs already that could do something with the projects, etc. though it will take time until I can use them. They will make sense and serve bonuses in the after college life. I’d like to start working on that this month.

If you serve more than 50 Dollars the effect is drastically reduced, because the NPC does not necessarily eat much more at some point, even if you provide them a truck of burgers…If you pay 1000 Dollars the character only gains weight for 145.

Right, this is because the game develops in many points at the same time: You might wait 30 minutes or more until the next event with the same character happens, but meanwhile dozens or other events can happen. You might focus too much on a character, this can be a pain, especially for Jessica, because her effects are drastically reduced or even contra productive when trying to force her.

The new update contains a lot of code. In total more lines of written code/text than the JUly update, especially more coded, so mind-challenging ones. This looks like just a little, but on this month’s update was spend more time than the previous ones (I am on holiday now, so expect an even larger update for next month).

That makes sense. Since these are monthly updates they are a lot smaller, but also more frequent.

I will definitely add options at the beginning of the game to set some values. I love the idea!

Gonna toss my hat into the feedback ring. I’ve supported the game on and off depending on my financial situation and the type of content being added. I decided to skip this month and will wait to resub until the next update where more character/story would be implemented for one of side characters in the game. Apologies if I sound presumptuous with some of the comments/suggestions I make, but it’s ultimately your game, and you should make the game you want.

TL;DR

  • Jobs need to require less clicks or be more automated like events for repeat visits (easier to hold skip on them).
  • Social media needs more story/content from gaining followers and being able to see their reactions when posting.
  • Bank is exploitable for infinite money with no consequence or reward for paying off debts.

Anyways, here’s my thoughts and ramblings about some areas of the game up in v0.12 that have/haven’t been mentioned already:

Kitsune summed up most of my thoughts on the game, but I want to express my thoughts on their point about jobs.

I think a big problem with the game is just how many clicks takes to do some of the existing content, especially with jobs/projects/eating. Currently, it can take me dozens of clicks to get through any of the jobs during a full shift despite holding the skip button. Having to do this each day quickly makes the clicks reach the hundreds in a few days for the job/project system alone. Having them be event-only would help reduce the tedious/grindiness of them greatly. Here’s a few examples that can automate/streamline some of the job functions for hopefully as little work as possible for the most bang:

  • When deciding how many hours to work at the office job, it could automatically calculate how many donuts get eaten based off the MC’s hunger/fullness every few hours while also deciding what events trigger (e.g. talking with the boss, interactions with Samantha, etc.) as it would normally when you work longer periods without touching the donut box. This would remove the need to ask the player how many hours they would want to work again in between donut box binges.

  • For the fast food restaurant, instead of having to manually click on each item to add to the order and potentially try breaking the system by feeding a $1000 worth of food to a customer, it could be broken down to some one-click options like “Mess up their order (Pocket some cash),” “Follow the order correctly,” or “Supersize their order (Lose some cash)”. There could also be room for the MC to acknowledge who their serving if it’s someone they have already met and have small interactions to help reduce the monotony of the job.

Despite how cool some of the systems you’ve implemented in the game sound on paper, such as creating a social media presence on the MC’s phone, it didn’t feel fully baked or interesting enough for me to pursue after. Currently, the only purpose for social media is to eventually become famous enough to start making a living from ad revenue. However, I had to spend a huge amount of money on startup and for advertisements to get any decent following quickly enough to get an ad revenue rate comparable to a normal job. The experience just felt hollow, especially due the lack of reactions from followers or when reaching certain follower thresholds.Which stinks, because the idea of having followers react to the MC’s changing appearance has some strong fetish fuel scenarios, both positive and negative. While I haven’t tried out being a restaurant owner in v0.13 (which may very well be 1000x better), my experience with how social media turned out made me fear a similar outcome may have happened in v0.13.

The bank doesn’t have any consequences for taking a loan, and it breaks the game easily. In it’s current iteration, the bank is either exploited to have an easy mode for making the MC as fat and well-nourished as quickly as possible or be ignored to have a more realistic-sandbox experience the game offers. One thing that may give more purpose to the bank is to just have a limit on the loans a player can make, on top of their college loan as well as some kind of rewards if they’re making payments on time. I hesitate to suggest consequences to failing to pay off loans, as the game can already feel grindy in just trying to earn money in v0.12.

Reading through feedback from others, I see that the lack of meat (pun intended) on single character sories is what puts a lot of people off. There are many characters and they all look very good, but none of them has a whole lot of content.
This is the main reason why I suggested concentrating on a single character at a time. Working on one girl until she has a lot of stages and a lot of content would IMO keep interest steadier than having many choices but with little content.

I think the feedback here was pretty clear: We need loooads of new stories and less clicks. I’ll start planning right now.

Then I’ll improve the Social Media system, which was already planned some time ago, but got shifted all the time.

Which character’s story should be extended first?

  • Jane
  • Jassica
  • Lisa
  • Ida
  • Samantha

The next update is going to be a huge story update, specifically for Jane…and with large I am talking about large, because I have hired a native English writer on Fiverr for formulating the story. Additionally, there will be a setting at the beginning of the game where you can choose between more or less dialog (depending on your preferences).

Regarding Jobs:
They will get settings. For example at the waitress job the settings will ask you all possible questions once, and you can answer them to automate your answers, same for the office job with the possible configuration how many donuts you’d like to eat in what time. You can also select “Don’t automate this task” to still be asked this question at work. The fast food restaurant will have settings to simplify orders and an option to skip unknown customers.

These settings will be unlocked after visiting a job three times and can be disabled to return to the original settings, the way they are right now.

Bug fixed version will be available later today/tomorrow. My PC broke last week again, and I am going to repair it today. I’m angry on the manufacturer, but they were super nice and sent me the replacement parts for free.

Spoiler of the currently implemented weight stages on Patreon now online.

Regarding the bug fixed version, it will be released tomorrow for all Silver or higher-tiered Patrons. This version includes some harder balance updates for hunger/thirst and will include one additional sprite for the Co-Worker at the fast food restaurant asking you for food in your breaks. Also the items you can choose in your break slightly changed and you will be asken more often for a snack. Additionally, the usual bug fixes, which have been reported. Again I had hardware problems (it’s the 2nd time now on my new PC), which I solved yesterday. This is the reason, why it took longer than expected.

Will release the bug-fixed version tomorrow. One bug seems to be more complex than I initially thought it was.

This version includes bugfixes for all bugs reported in v0.13.0, including a bug making the restaurant sell nothing at all. Additionally, there are a few balance updates to the game to handle thirst/hunger more easily.

PS: There was a new sprite added to the game for the Co-Worker at the fast food restaurant.

There is now a plot of how Jane’s story will be written and it’s going to be a lot of story…

Mega has locked my account, it was unlocked recently again. So if you experienced issues downloading, please try again now.

Hey Mister, wanna be a patron again next month, but what can I expect in next version? You was talking about new storylines, but will be that ready for next update or you have something else prepared? You doing great work.

There will be a story update for Jane, but this depends on a writer, I collaborate with. But she seems to be reliable. Until November it is planned to have Jane’s story finished. Each month until then it is planned to extend her story. Since I am not working alone anymore on this project, the next updates will be bigger.

Regarding my part there will be a lot of qulity-of-life improvements to reduce clicking amount. Additionally, I will try to play the game multiple times and adjust values that do not seem to fit yet properly and - with the main goal - to find and reduce click-intense events. Thinking about things that could be skipped, etc.

A version containing bug fixes. I released this to have this month’s version be completed, since v0.13.1 had the fast food restaurant unlocked to make it easier to test for all - I had to find a good balance (though it seems like the balance already is ok).

Additionally, the new sprite (it’s just a single one without a sequence yet) for the co-worker at the fast food restaurant has been added.

Thank you so much for your work @SirMister, I love your game! Please keep going, I’m proud to be part of your Patreon for a long time now, always looking forward to the new versions!

Will there be weight stages for the fast food co-worker that can be found in the newest bug fix/you posted on Patreon? She looks amazing!

Thank you for your support, I appreciate it a lot! To answer your question, yes there will be stages for her. For now I cannot tell if I can still push them into next month’s version, but I promise, there will be.

Actually, I have just posted publicly about what my next steps will be for the game, since I changed some plans: https://www.patreon.com/posts/55589268

Summarized, there will be more story. Well, a lot of story and less of clicking. Updates of the game will grow in size, because I’ve hired an artist to help me. More in the post on Patreon (same link as above).

PS: Subscribing tomorrow will give you the most benefit, since it is the first of the month and your membership will end on the last day of September, no matter when you subscribed in September. If you subscribe to the Silver Tier, or higher, you will instantly get access to the new September version including the above announced updates as soon as it releases! With your money you help me to cover the cost of this project. Without my Patrons this project wouldn’t be possible in the way it is.

Sirmister great that you took IT upon you to create this game. From what i see IT does look very promissing (maybe equaling tiggerloo in quality ) i havent played your game yet so i am a bit bit biased for now.

Im still a bit of a doubter into becoming a patreon for now (because of private stuff) but when the time does allow me ill become one  propably during november.

I did have a question though how long do you plan on creating this game i mean when would IT be considered done?
