I didn’t post about my update last month because it was small due to illness, so this posts is to inform about both!

The most recent update now includes the chips and dip, and spicy wings sections revised for new poses and had the dialogue revised as well. Some new variations based on choices too.

Planning to have this month’s patreon update out tonight.

I just wanted to write a little bit on the status of things and plans for the short term future.

I want to get a lot done (and hopefully finish) the feeding update to the ice cream appetizer events today. Once that is done then there is only the sampler, and the double appetizer event to update. I know it’s famous last words but those shouldn’t be too big of projects.

The current phase of the projects is to polish stuff to put out an updated free demo.

2 possibilities are in my mind for that: Either it will cut off at the same point or I will extend the free version up to just before dinner entrees. Obviously that second idea would take longer. So we’ll see how it goes with the continued polishing.

The current list of plans for the polishing plans

  • Revising the the writing and adding the new poses I’ve made.
    Like i mentioned the double appetizer, the finishing up of the sample platter, and the ice cream remain. I also have not touched the food ordering scenes much and so I should probably go back and revise them all too. Another thing I would like to do is continue adding more extra variant scenes for early choices. I try to add them as I go, but it doesn’t hurt to take some more time to do stuff. I also would want to take another spell checking pass over all the altered stuff. And if things move smoothly I’d have to revise the pre-dinner conversation options and add more variants there, but that should be much faster because I’m not reworking the feeding system with them.
    Additionally there is a stretch goal I’m not sure about implementing in 3 places (sample platter, ice cream, and the sampler + ice cream appetiser) and that is letting the player dictate the order of what gets eaten. And I haven’t done that because it’d be a pretty serious scope creep lol. The middle ground of yes and know is to just implement it for the ice cream appetizer. So we’ll see how things progress.

Okay so what else?

  • Sounds old and new:
    At the very least i need to go back and add the already existing sounds to the demo content. A lot of fine details have changed and gotten more complex, so they should be adjusted. One of the things I want to do is add the sounds to the little close up feeding scenes since that just makes sense. I also have a new set of sounds i acquired ages ago to add. Overall the sounds take some work, but not like a ton.

  • Feeding scenes:
    On that topic, the actual code for the feeding stuff is all implemented except for the double appetizer option (which I should be able to largely copy what i did for the other appetizers it uses). Once that is done then this section is done then its done until I add it to the dinner entrees(which I’m scheduling after the next public demo update).
    However there is a couple hanging things i want to add. I want to change how Myre’s expressions are in the feeding scenes. i have the face art separated but i just haven’t decided how i want to implement it. And then there is also the possibility of the click and drag feeding option for when the player hand feeds Myre. I in a broad sense know how I would like that to work, but it’s just a matter of getting it to work in a way that feels good. That I think is tied to me updating Myre’s facial expressions. Both of these are somewhat stretch goals for the free update.

  • Art:
    I’m talking with Kay to get the rest of the table food art done for the update. Besides that I need to make an icon for the little notification that tells the player that a part of a scene they entered is a variation based on a choice. Not a huge thing but having a temp icon there is not the best for what should be pretty polished. The big hold up is that I’m not quite sure what word to have on the icon. I will probably just have to choose one and then add a short dialogue at the start of the game to inform the player what it means.

I am bad at ETAs so i wont even guess. It will be wrong. But this is roadmap to the updated public demo

I didn’t totally finish the ice cream appetizer this month. You can blame everything happening at one time this last week for me. But is did get it mostly done. There is just a small bit of writing I need to do. I got WIP art into the game for the ice cream which ended up with me having to write a bunch of new stuff for flavors I thought i had already included. I also revised and added the new poses to that appetizer. Also implemented the feeding system into the ice cream part, with 3 different frequencies of inclusion which you can toggle in the settings.

The WIP art for the ice cream also marks that i did a detailed request document so i can pay Kay to get the food art done to get the appetizers art finally sorted out - and that’s a big requirement for this polishing phase.

v0.586 changes

  • Revised and added new writing for both instances of the ice cream appetizer
  • Added feeding animation system to the ice cream appetizer

I don’t want to sound negative, but without some proper free content I doubt you’ll get much following. The free demo is miniscule, not enough to get engaged. My suggestion, make the second-last update free to download every time you publish a new one, you still get the patreon money and people gets to see your work.

I have written and posted for free over 350,000 words of content totally for free. If you were to print it as a book that would be thicker than the first 3 harry potter books + a good portion of the 4th stacked. The demo of MMM is about 15,000 words accounting for all the different choices.

The current work I’m doing is to polish the new added content to update the demo.

So I got Covid again this month, but thankfully;y that was at the beginning of the month, and it also didn’t turn into a debilitating 3 months like last time. So that’s cool!

Like the notes below say, I did a bunch of revision to the cinnamon buns appetizer, and added some variations to it. I think there is fertile ground for a few more, but it’s deadline time =P.

Besides that, also like the notes say, I paid Kay to make full sets of new final art for the cinnamon buns appetizer, and the ice cream appetizer! The cinnamon buns art has been added to the sampler already, but the ice cream has not yet been added to the sampler event.

And because I have a problem I also exported 3 new facial variations because i didn’t have enough lol. All three are various flavors of embarrassed.

Changes:

  • I heavily revised both versions the appetizer ‘let Myre choose’ - the cinnamon buns one. Also added some new variants to the appetizer based on earlier choices.

  • Rebalanced the feeding event for the cinnamon buns too.

  • New art from x.com for Cinnamon buns!

  • New art from x.com for the ice cream appetizer too!

New chips art

This month I’ve been working on sounds a bit mostly. Adding them to the feeding events. I went out and got some sounds for crunchy food (which like the other eating sounds you can specifically run off).

Besides that i just put up a poll for all patrons to vote on:

Should I add small vocal cues for Myre? Like sighs or groans or laughs. It would be used all over the place, just at key locations. And like the other sounds it would be toggle in the ‘content options’ menu.

EDIT: I also should clarify that i don’t ever plan to add like squelchy or squishy eating sounds, in case anyone is worried about that

This month sees some new art and new sounds and redistributed additional sounds. Went to work in the sound effect mines and found some good stuff. The poll I ran also showed people enthusiastic for some vocal sounds, which I added too.

The little laughs and sighs I added have just been sprinkled in where i felt appropriate, but I’m sure I will find other places to add them in when I go for a more detailed spell check pass for the update to the demo. (you can turn vocal sounds off in the content preferences menu).

Next month I will have some more art done for the food. Hopefully, Next month I’ll have all the appetizer art from Kayinthedark finished. After that there is just finishing up the sampler appetizer (which is in a messy state currently) and then doing the two appetizer option. Then after that I want to spell check and do a bit of spot check revisions, then that’s it!

Changes:

  • New final Kayinthedark art for the chips and dip appetizer.

  • Upgraded the feeding animation to include eating sounds, and removed some of those eating sounds that were in other places(so no double gulp sounds for the same food eaten)

  • New sounds: Crunchy stuff for the chips and other things.

  • New sounds: Vocal cues for Myre. Some laughs, sighs, and gasps. Meant to be a bit of flavor in the same style as Legend of Zelda.

  • A new option in the content options menu to turn of the new vocal sounds if they’re not to your liking

This month is more art! All the art I intend for the demo update is now done and in the project. All the placeholder art should be gone, including the temp choice notification button. There is still a couple art things i need to tweak, like the fork/hand feeding difference for the sampler event.

I ended up removing the bruschetta portion of the sampler event because I forgot to buy the art from Kay, and when I was putting all the food together it literally wouldn’t have fit on the table, and i didn’t want to go back, comm that, then shuffle everything on the table around again. And I have no attachment to the bruschetta content. Most of the other food items have themes associated with them. The little tomato toast does not.

After this the to do list for the demo update is to finish revising the sampler and the double appetizer event (a variant of the sampler and cinnamon buns event), then final revisions and spell checking. So were getting close to that milestone!

Changes:

  • New final Kayinthedark art for the boneless hot wings
  • New final Kayinthedark art for the mozzarella sticks
  • New final Kayinthedark art for the sliders
  • The art for all the appetizers is now done and implemented
  • New icon and very short tutorial for the choice notification icon. Also a button to turn it off in the settings
  • Removed the bruschetta from the sampler app because I forgot to buy the art, and when I put the other art all together it didn’t fit on the table. Whoops lol

Did you make the sounds yourself or find them on an online repository? And if so which one?

The new ones from last month are all from https://freesound.org/

The specific sounds can be found via the info in the file name(the number sequence + the names). I left them there because technically iirc the free license specifies that you’re supposed to attribute usage. And I didn’t want to have a page for like… single second sound effects heh
