The Old book appears to have a few errors to it as well. ![]()
Apologies for the delayed response. It would seem that the consequences of a rushed update arrived unlubed. While most of those errors are caused by my having forgotten to remove a piece of unwanted code, the first one is probably a limitation of the gameās design. Once I have a patch through, the error (hopefully) wonāt be visible, but youāll have to rest somewhere in order to be able to read books in the (currently) allowed areas.
Finally played the gameās current content to its entirety, thereby finishing my Bug Crawl!
I donāt know if you ever mentioned it in the thread before the recent updates, but I first learned that the Noble background would eventually be included from poking around in the code and itās cool to finally see it officially in the game. The snobby noble thing is obviously appealing for a game like this and I havenāt seen that kind of option for the player character in other games in this community. Of course, most games here werenāt built to support multiple PC backgrounds like this one does.
Do you have any more plans for the weight gain? In my opinion, itās a little backwards in this game currently. Itās really easy to gain weight quickly and the game just ends if your weight gets too high. Thatās how it was in Ruins, too, but that game was a lot shorter and had so many endings, while in Realm it seems like more of a commitment, and I think it was mentioned that Realm is supposed to be more of a full RPG. In Realm, most of your time is spent trying to lose weight just so you can keep playing! I donāt know if you have anything in mind for this all, but if it were me, Iād slow the rate of weight gain by a lot, and either make fattening events like the beach cooler and the traps in the dungeon either rarer or less fattening. I think this would make it a little more like Nooneās game, which I imagine was an inspiration here, in that the character gaining weight is something happening throughout the whole game.
I also thought about immobility stuff in this game, so here are my unsolicited suggestions. If you have high intelligence, you could cast a spell to float around if you found or bought that spell before immobility. If you have high strength, there could be someone that gives the PC conditioning training for heavy weights. If you picked the Noble background, you could have the PCās servants carry her around in a palanquin.
Anyway, I wanted to give you some feedback and thoughts on the game that donāt just pertain to bugs since Iām sure youāve had enough of bugs! That being said, I still have bugs to report.
If you try to wander the Industrial District of Vielessen, the game sends this error:
Error: <>: passage āVielessen-Industrial Districtā does not exist
There are also no prompts to continue so you have to use the back arrow.
If you run away from the Bandit in the Northern District, thereās text that says āTime to skeddaddle, Skoob! No one should ever see this.ā Thereās no prompt to continue and the back arrow does nothing, so this is a hard lock.
Sorry that took so long. I patched all the bugs, wanted to add a few things, got some of them done, got distracted, then gave up and released the patch.
As for your other, non-related bug statements:
- Ah, peeking at the incomplete content under the hood, naughty naughty! That said, Iām glad that you appreciate the Noble background. I figured that the Noble background would be a great addition for the game both from the fluff side of having the option to play as a snobby character, and from the gameplay aspect of having an anti-balanced character, who has a massive resource advantage over the other background options (Starting off rich and with a free place to sleep in Dechrau) at the cost of atrocious physical stats and slower leveling for said stats.
- I may tweak the weight gain in the game at some point to try and make it slower-paced. However, itās not currently a high priority task since I kinda think the WG rate is pretty well-balanced for the non-adventuring side of the game. That said, the introduction and effect of Digestion potions has made me consider doing a metabolic rework.
- TBH immobility has been haunting me in this game for a while. I wanna add immobility content, but thereās a lot of work to be done to make it function, and it may not be the most⦠Exciting gameplay once itās added (being too big for doors, significantly reduced agency, etc). However, I do have a plan-a-brewinā:
-
- I am considering adding Non-Adventuring routes to the game (like owning a business or becoming a landed noble in Vielessen (for the Noble background) or something). Immobility could have some pretty good synergy with these routes, so I plan on actually kicking into gear on immobility when I actually get to work on that.
New update!
Found a couple of bugs. 1) If you eat coconut on the road, it wont disappear.
2)
Also it would be nice to know what is my current greed level.
- Is it only Coconuts that have this problem? Because Iām looking at the thing rn and it looks like either all the food has this issue or none of it does. If itās all foods, then thatās an easy enough fix.
- Oops, forgot to add that passage lol
- Iāll probably add more flags to hint at the playerās Gluttony level, but Iām currently intending for it to be a soft stat, so Iām probably gonna keep the exact number hidden for now.
Forgot to release my patch for this stuff. Busy week, doing lots of stuff, plus Iām generally a bit forgetful. On the bright side, it turns out Iām kinda good at baking.
EDIT: Patch is up, I forgot to actually mention that
New Update, big reworks, new mechanics, finally added the Thumbnail!
Error: <>: passage āWodsedge Churchā does not exist
Got en error for the new church in Wodsedge
Oops, should be patched now.
New Update (again)! Also, I forgot to edit the thread title last update, whoops.
New Update dropped. Two more quests and some other stuff!
i found several bugs in the latest release.
bugs with inventory items i think, seams to relate to the taffy and the gummy fish:
Error: <>: bad conditional expression in <> clause: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading āincludesā)
<<if $inventroy.includes(āSalt Water Taffyā)>> <<set _event.push(āblurb-eattaffyā)>>
Error: <>: bad conditional expression in <> clause: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading āincludesā)
<<if $inventroy.includes(āGummy Fishā)>> <<set _event.push(āblurb-eatgummyfishā)>>
i got this error code when having one of the beach events that make you fat. oddly enough it only seamed to happen half the time:
<<if $random(1,20)-($glut - 1) lt 5>>You really donāt feel like getting upā¦<>[[Get up and try to leave]]<>
woods edge seams to have a few errors with the lost bracelet quest, it said i completed it before i even picked it up when i talked to her.
Error: cannot find a closing tag for macro <>
<<if $quest10 is 2>>ā¦
Error: cannot find a closing tag for macro <>
<<if $lbs gte 200>>ā¦
the magic system unfortunately seams to be broken with the spell select menu breaking down i think.
Error: <>: passage "select-magicbolt1>><<if def $magicmissile or $background is " does not exist
<<include "select-magicbolt1>><<if def $magicmissile or $background is āMageā>>
<<include āselect-magicmissile1ā>><>
<<include āselect-manaburst1ā>>
Ah yeah, those bugs have been found by the discord and patched. I shouldāve mentioned I released a patch.
Speaking of, Iāve got a second patch on the way.
EDIT: Patched.
So cooking and crafting both seem to be static, they donāt have exp bars, and the amount of times Iāve worked at the inn and done cooking as a side thing youād think Iād go up one rank if it were possible.
Also man the mana improvement takes a while, even with me being able to kill a bison before I run out of mana, itās definitely more powerful to just smack things with my sword as a mage.
Thank you, I wish my games would receive comments like this more often. Very good for spurring me out of creative dry spells.
Next update will have the Cooking and Crafting stats on the Guild Card. I suppose Iāve convinced myself that the Cooking and Crafting stats wouldnāt make sense to be on the Guild Card (yet Charisma does). As for the underwhelming nature of Magic, I think I might finally get to work on reworking the magic system to make less terrible.
Again, thank you for the critique. It may sound sarcastic, but I do wish I got more of them. After all, it means Iām doing something just right enough that people are willing to spend time to make sure I know what Iām doing wrong.
No worries, happy to be of help, as I do like this game a fair bit and would really like to see it expanded upon.![]()
Speaking of the Guild Card stuff, I wish the stats had something to explain what they do and benefit and so on. Strength is obvious sure, Vitality too, but I couldnāt tell what Charisma and Intelligence were doing as I sat at the Witches house grinding out stat increase cards (while juggling my money via Wheel of Fortune and randomly blobbing and twigging depending on which other cards I pulled.)
Speaking of, I donāt think the Stars card is doing anything rn? It says itās boosting my mana storage, but when I check the Guild Card I donāt see the exp bar increasing.
