The Weighting Game - WIP

Tiggertoo has restarted development. The next version of the game will be closed and only accessible to volunteer bug testers with the hope of finding any issues so that develop can continue(not close to being finished).

With the issues from pirating previously tiggertoo plans to only have the public have access to the finished game. The game will still be a paid product when finished with an unspecified price and platform. And since Tiggertoo is working at a more comfortable pace for them and the game likely has multiple builds to go before reaching the finished version (0.8, 0.9, etc.) it will be in development for a long while yet.

Tiggertoo has started a ko-fi page for anyone wanting to support development with multiple sets of what if renders available each month where people can either tip or subscribe if they want to. https://ko-fi.com/tttwo

Cheers for the recap. :+1:

Will the game be released to all patrons? Or will we have to purchase it again. I have already donated about 60-70 dollars to this games release, and I would appreciate not having to buy it again. If yes, how will you intend on doing that? Or is it just a situation where I’m SOL.

That’s a good question, and one that I don’t currently have an answer for.

The original plan was to give a ‘free’ copy of the game to everyone on Patreon who had donated more than the purchase price.

Unfortunately, when I closed the patreon page down, Patreon didn’t just delete my page, but my whole account. You’re given the option of downloading all your data when you close the page, but I didn’t do this because as far as I was concerned at that point, the game was cancelled for good and I just wanted to forget all about it.

All of which basically means that I have no record at all of who was a patreon, and no way of retrieving those records as they’ve apparently been deleted permanently.

I could make exceptions for those who I think I remember (which is complicated by many people on Patreon having throwaway usernames/emails), but that would be unfair on those who I don’t remember. And if I say I’ll give a copy to everyone who comes forward and says they were a patreon, you can probably imagine where that will go…

So, I’m kind of stuck really. I don’t want to go back on my word, but I can’t think of any alternatives at the moment. I’ll have to give it some thought.

I was going to suggest having patreons use their billing history that’s an easy way to see how much or how many times a patron was subscribed but your account appears as a blank in the billing statement (as it doesn’t exist anymore).

So I don’t know how reliable that would be. Could be taken advantage of.

Yeah, I did consider something like that, but screenshots are very easy to fake, and even easier if half the relevant details aren’t there any more

I hope you find a better solution, but if not here’s my 2 cents.

If people are willing to lie to your face, then they’re willing to pirate the game. It takes more for an individual to swindle a person “face to face” than to go to some anonymous website and download some files that have been put up.

That being the case, it’s probably better to give out a few games too many rather than a few games too few. Better to give away something to a few swindlers than to cheat the people who supported you.

That being said, I wasn’t one of your patrons, so you can disregard my opinion if you want.

You could demand to login as them on patreon, that would solve the screenshot flaws, but it wouldn’t solve the fact that patreon doesn’t keep your billing history data properly.

You could always try emailing patreon though and begging them for that download data button’s worth of data be sent to you, on the off chance they still have it and are willing to help? (Sooner the better in case it’s about to be automatically purged from their servers, on the wildly low chance it hasn’t been already.)

The dudes who leaked the game might be in that group you know… It’s a great idea to send a copy to those people who pay x dollars when the game was released a few times in a year, but i guess it’s up to you.

I’m unsure of how much time this will take, or the amount of energy, but perhaps send “unique” copies of the game. What I mean is to have something in the code that would be difficult to be spotted, while having it special to each person playing. That way if it is pirated then you could spot the unique feature and figure out who is pirating and who isn’t.

There can be plenty of ways to do this, from specific grammar mistakes to perhaps a special command that can be typed it or something. But again I’m unsure how difficult it would be to find such a flaw. Plus if the pirates are that desperate they’ll try to fix whatever flaw is in the game to hide the origin, which could buy some time.

The correct way to do this is magic pixel in image. Technology is out there. It’s prevented all jag27piracy ever since he claimed to be using it. In combination with the use of pdf’s which can in theory run code and therefore can connect to the internet and phone home to tattle on pirates, which is a feature he’s also implied he uses.

None of this is worth the effort though and I don’t really think tiggertoo wants to spend time on it.

Thats the person that was ddosing people that were pirating and sharing their personal info online, right? Aren’t the reason things stopped is that the pirates were ISP banned from them since they like handout pdfs with unique identifiable “fingerprint” coding. That and making it so users could access comics and amount of content based on how long they were subscribed among many other convoluted things.

You definitely spend way more energy and time doing that (plus the question of legality and moral issues) then working on your art and anti-privacy measures often hurt the actual supporting base more than do anything for pirates. :man_shrugging:

You’re 100% entirely wrong in every way. That’s either myfetishsituation or faf or both. They started a witch hunt and refused to sell their art to their customers. Entirely different situation to jag27 who is far more professional.

Also the witch hunt from faf and or myfetishsituation was just random nonsense, no magical solutions that actually worked.

Gotcha. Either way seems like tiggertoo has a plan for what they intend to do for both the testing and final version. And once something is out there it doesn’t stop being available, though I understand wanting to “put a stop” to whoever would be sharing content without consent.

Woah, that quickly turned into a piracy discussion :stuck_out_tongue:

Let’s be realistic. No matter what I do, this game WILL be pirated once it’s finished. Especially as many of the pirates have a grudge against me for daring to point out that pirating incomplete games in a fetish as niche as this does way more harm than good.

@burber I’d be absolutely fine with giving away a few extra copies. But I highly doubt it would just be a few. I don’t have any records of who was a patron and who wasn’t, so I’d have to give a copy to everyone who said they’d been a patron. I’d get every pirate under the sun bugging me for a free copy.

@namad even if people were daft enough to allow someone else to access their accounts, I’d feel very uncomfortable doing so. As for asking Patreon to retrieve the info, I did so a while back. Apparently, once your account is deleted, it’s gone for good and they can’t get it back. To be honest, I’m not surprised they said this, whether it’s the truth or not. They were spectacularly unhelpful when they were making money from my patreon page, so why would they help me out now they’re making no money from me?

@Mark-627 The last leak of the game was from someone in the higher tier group, so they’d almost certainly qualify for a copy.

@Seeker9043 that’s been suggested a few times - and it’s a nice idea for individual copies such as the test versions I’ll be doing at some point, but for the finished game? Hugely impractical.

@namad (again :p) Definitely not worth the effort for a title as niche as this.

@Krodmandoon I have a plan for the test version. The finished version… who knows? That’s still a long way off. It’s highly unlikely there will be any anti-piracy measures, though. Ever since the game was first leaked, I’ve said that I fully expect the finished version to be pirated, and I still do. You can’t stop the pirates.

Either way, I will wait patiently and hungry for the either test or finished version, just like old times. <3

Yea I was a patron until the very end so would be cool to receive some final benefit but I doubt that at least simply attaching a screenshot would be legitimate enough. At least with the screenshot u included, that could very easily be inspect element’ed

If tigger is willing to do us patreon supporters a favor, I wouldn’t expect for him to systematically log into everyone’s account to individually verify details tho lol

Ah finally something where NFTs could provide actual utility

I can only speak for myself of course, but I would never send a cropped screenshot like that to prove I was a patreon. It was only to show off publicly as an example of what is left now with the patreon receipts since the account is gone.

I personally don’t care about a “free” copy of the end product for myself. I was a patreon from the time I learned of the project (I want to say December of 2019? I know I was late to the party from when it first showed up but I had only recently made an account from what I remember.) until well when the account was removed. So, I definitely wasn’t someone that the promise of a free version when released did much appealing to . Still would have been nice if there was an easy solution for it though.
