Just released V1.0.08. No real new content mainly bug fixes. See itch for the full devlog!
Really entertaining game! Iâm looking forward to the next weight stages~
Youâve got a great start here though I did have a note about balancing.
There needs to be a way to become food self sufficient, the current management incentive breaks the in game economy.
In order to try and get ahead of demand (which is massive) you have to sell tons of food. Selling this food inflates the amount of credits you get to the point that buying anything is trivial. That in turn allows you to buy almost infinite scrap thus making that grind also pointless.
More than that you basically have to have both characters assigned to forage to maintain any kind of food surplus.
Now you can technically have the characters eat less, but that feels like a punishment for playing the game correctly which isnât ideal.
Instead I think you could fix the economy by just changing the nature of how foraging works to just negate the base food cost of each NPC unless you have them set to eat a higher amount.
You still need to get food to feed yourself, plus to use additional content like the canteen you would also need a food surplus. So you keep the incentive to gain food but it doesnât become your singular task.
oh shit i think i remember this nice lol. looks gud
Not sure if this was already reported, but once you start exploring the mountains with Vivian, should you encounter the lion with her and fight it, for some reason the UI on the left bugs out and disappear, leaving only saves, settings and restart left. Everything else mysteriously vanishes and nothing I did could make it comeback.
Another thing is that the weight of Vivian and Lily donât increase with the option that encourages them to eat more, and their day-to-day weight doesnât change unless you bring them to a canteen or give them a gift. Moreover, their weight actually doesnât go up even with gifts until you unlock the canteen, which seems weird to me. Great game so far though, canât wait for future updates!
Yep looks like the fight logic forgot to turn the UI back on. I will look into that!
Thanks for the bug notification, right now you have to encourage them a few times to see a noticeable difference as a few early tests led to massive drains quite quick which didnât seem fair. I might move it to an office activity as food allocations instead as it would make more sense to give you more granular control there, a conversation isnât the best place to give people a menu.
Hey Moon, thanks for the comments. This game is not supposed to be easy by any means and the high demand at this point is purposeful, the idea was you may have to sacrifice a character or two (at this stage) and focus on another. Resource management to me does mean you have to make sacrifices at least in the short term.
My current plan to balance is actually to allow for NPCs to train stats similar to how you can. The game system is already setup so that each job benefits from a different stat. Lily is actually a much better forager because of this.
To fix the credit situation is a little trickier at this point, that comes down to a simple question to me.
What use is money in an apocalyptic wasteland!
I have some ideas for more currency sinks that I donât want to go into detail on, but they are coming.
I get that, but the issue isnât that itâs difficult itâs mostly just tedious and eliminates the need to manage scrap or credits.
With just a little trial and error a score of 4 Int is enough to gain roughly 15k worth of food from foraging per day which also earns you roughly 500-700 in credits
I donât have to increase the food intake of my NPCâs since they gain from being given their favorite food and donât really lose much weight, so thereâs no sacrifice at all.
The end result is just two people in foraging and occasionally I need to go get 15k worth of food in a day which is easy to accomplish reliably by just reloading the save before you go into the fields.
Training could well end up fixing the problem, but then what would the motivation be to have NPCâs in any other slot than foraging?
Ultimately you are going to design the game how you want, but Iâd recommend as the designer writing down your exact intended route for managing the shelter and then compare that to how players are doing it. Because if the two are vastly different then that tells you something.
Edit: Credits are incorrect after additional testing, I just got lucky with wild fruit one time and they are worth 80 a pop which inflated the value. Itâs more like 200-300 regularly.
it will be cool that the player character after you beat a bandit you can vore them.
Not sure if this is that kind of game, but on this website, I have no right to judge anyone.
This his been the most enjoyment Iâve gotten out of any of the ârandomized explorationâ kinda games on here - probably because of the whole home base management bit. Definitely interested in seeing the companions being expanded upon further, as well as whatever upgrades/mechanics are introduced to keep up with the ever-growing resource demands.
well Iâm going to wait until there are many characters to unlock
I enjoy you trying to make it hard, but I think you should take some of those bugs that people had found and find ways to make them features. Itâs fun to kind of cheat ways to have a really effective farm. Especially because I want to be putting people on jobs other than foraging. I know this is much easier said than done, but by the time I get full cycle farming I want to be less worried about food numbers all the time.
Found a bug: after incident with lion, most of menu disappeared.
Save file.zip (142.9 KB)
And MC should be fatter here (not important, just saying)
Ok, now I can say have done anything in the game, so I can share my opinion and bugs.
- Yes, this is kinda fun, tho eternal farm + tearing between scrap metal, food farming and fat buildup on all peers is killing me. For now I am at peak of my base status: wheat cover all losses, I dont know where I can spend all money, but it is not bad, I think. I have a stability, this is a reward for me, now I can concentrate on how much I should let my girls go themselfs.
- I have problem with task 6, I simply cant find inspiration. I think Lily can help, but she always resists.
- Found a bag: sometimes your items (not food) just disappears, but but their properties remain, if you put them on (bye-bye stetson). Not sure when and how how this happen and what triggers it.
And another one, when you try to look at map during expedition with Vivi.
- I have no idea how relationships works here and what they change hereâŚ
Itâs something to do with not resetting the menu after that encounter like normal; get into a regular fight with anything and the rest of the menu will come back once itâs done.
That works, thanks, tho I am far further now
Hey all.
Iâm kinda stuck with the Lily task where sheâs in the well. I canât fit it. Is there a quicker way to resolve this without losing weight? Losing weight is going to take ages!
No idea, I am actually surprised that there is such a moment, can I have picture of it? Or text?
How many stages for the NPCs are there?
