If I may, I would introduce then an “identification” system, to allow players to see what the equipment does, could be like in Barony, where it takes some time (in the inventory) for the item to be identified, or could even be a special encounter with some npc that offers to identify stuff in exchange for money.
That’s the way, taking inspiration and making your own ideas! Your game is gonna be great!
Thanks! I think the NPC encounter could work well in this case so there are more options to spend money on. I might try that option later on, but for now cursed items won’t be present in the game.
Glad to be of help! I honestly like game design and figuring out stuff like that, cursed items are fun, btw, another option could also be cursed items giving some bonus in exchange for the curse, like a sword that heals when it damages but also makes you slower.
Personally, I prefer it when curses are purely negative and are only offset by a certain play-styles or perks. Like in Stone-Soup, worshipers of Ashenari gain significant skill boosts based on the curse armor they wear.
A simple background system would be good idea, in my opinion. Something that could go along with a Race and Class systems to give little flavor text and trait to your character. In this case, there could be a “Contrarian” background that players a trait that makes all stat effects have the opposite effect. (For instance, lowered accuracy makes you more accurate and vice versa.)
this game looks amazing! super excited!
Sorry for not showing more progress in a while, things have been moving a bit slow but I’m still working on various aspects of the game, mostly related to the combat. Speaking of, I can finally show a little preview of how the combat system looks so far!
There are many details and a single video cannot cover them all (like enemies having different types of movements and being able to inflict status effects to the player), so I will later give a more detailed list with all the progress so far.
that is awesome! when will there be a demo?
As long everything goes according to plan, I estimate that I will have enough content for a public prototype in 1 more week! I want to have the core mechanics done and at least a couple maps ready to explore.
Looks great! Sounds good! You’re almost ready! I can’t say anything else cause I don’t know what to say but it’s looking great!
What is that stomach percentage for?
I am kinda curious too
If I had to guess, I think it’s how much food is in your stomach and how much you can still eat. While hunger represents whether or not your character needs to eat.
Like, your character could fill their stomach with water, but they’d still be hungry because water doesn’t satiate you.
The stomach percentage fills up whenever you eat, food gives some weight, some hunger and fills some stomach percentage that will add to hunger overtime. While it is at 100% you cannot eat anymore until there’s some room left, and once the hunger is also at 100% the stomach will instead add to your weight.
So eat when full to get fat?
Exactly, just not the only way to get fat, as food itself already adds to weight and some events do as well.
If food give buffs or heals than I would prefer going over 100% and getting a debuff for the time going over.
I find it more strategic as your current implemetion only means that you need to go a (small number of) step(s) to reduce fullness to eat again.
That actually sounds quite good! I’ll give it a try and will see what happens.
Hi again. As you might have assumed by now, not everything went according to plan irl and couldn’t have the prototype ready this week. I have been moving slower than I’d like with this project, but I want to say that I’m working on this on every chance I get. It’s been 1 month since I started making the game and while it’ll still take time to have it done, I appreciate everyone’s suggestions and feedback. This is another show of some progress so far!
The soup chest is back! Armor can give passive stat bonuses! Weight has an actual effect on you! And many things more haha.
Holy smokes! This looks amazing and is absolutely peak! I can’t wait for when I can play it!
