very good game, just played the update
I am shocked at how you managed to get a 0.0.2 out so quickly. Granted, it’s probably just a quick bugfix-
HOLD UP NEW SPELLS???
Wow, I was already impressed by the fact this is your first project you’ve shared with us, but this update coming out so soon? Wow.
I’ll leave a few impressions of trying out the new spells. They were really broken in the for now version.
First of all, in this game you consume weight to use spells, but you can get infinite weight just by spamming growth. This means you can use an unlimited number of spells, including growth. And there’s no limit, so you can easily access any stages with just growth and shrinkage.
I remembered something I wanted to say about game design. What do you think about how easy to gain weight/how easy to control?
For example, by reducing food and weight gaining sources, I think you can make the gaining itself challenging and rewarding, and create a balance where heavier is better. If there are a lot of fattening enemies, events, etc., your weight will continue to increase if you’re not careful, and gaining fat will become biased to punishing. It might be good to mix the two.
You said that you can progress at any weight (except for immobile, maybe?) and I wanted to know what you thought about that.
Haha I might have gotten a little carried away with the spells… I added them as they are as a quick-fix but I will balance spells overall since I could probably improve the way they work right now. I am interested in making weight gaining easy but always optional with its pros and cons, I agree with you and will try to get that mix to make sure the heavier stages are fun to play.
Since I’m bored I am going to suggest an idea: More Mimic types
Hey i had an ideia. As we could see by the way the level was structured it was mostly horizontal, and I was thinking what about ading verticality. As an example there is a pit trap that only triggers at certain weight levels maybe you are too thin and it easily slides open droping you underground while if you were heavier it might get jammed due to you being so heavy and allowing you to pass it, the opossite being true also, moreover there could be ropes that allow you to climb back up but if you are too heavy you will be unable to do so, homever this does not mean you need to slim down, it might just mean that that path is not accesible to you and you either have to go around or find another way to go up, for example, stairs, it could also just mean that a different exit exists so while you are unable to leave with the “slim exit” you could take the “heavy exit” (that could also mean you can’t exit a certain way if you are too thin) which could lead to different levels and different gimmicks. I hope this idea helps.
Verticality would add a lot more variety, even if it’s just a stairway to a higher level on the same floor.
No idea whats going on with this, if its somthing on my end or not but nothing seems to want to actually render on my pc? i can move around fine but everything is invisible
Really bumming me out, because this project seems really solid from the screenshots
Running on an AMD computer if that helps
The HORROR! I hope you find the solution soon
Mimic 1: The Feeder Mimic: A Mimic that won’t do damage to the player but instead start force feeding them which the player can get out by mashing the movement keys to get free.
Mimic 2: The Fire Mimic: This one is simple, if you open it then it starts spitting fire at the player until they’re out of sight. (Don’t worry it takes a few seconds for it to start spitting flames, you can also use this time to kill it because can only take two hits)
Mimic 3: Magic Mimic: Uses magic ( Who would have guessed?) Just attack it like normal.
Mimic 4: Poison Mimic: When opened it will start spraying a poisonous gas that slowly kills them unless the player gets out of the room
Mimic 5: Mimic but with limbs: It does more damage but it’s not likely because well Mimics aren’t used to having limbs (AKA it misses a lot)
Mimic 6: Mimic weapons: This one is different because unlike most Mimics these kinds of Mimics would work with the player by doing bonus damage to enemies in exchange for feeding it
Mimic 7: The very hungry Mimic: Seems to be a starved Mimic attacks more desperately but can be tamed by giving it some food
having the same error on my side, I wonder what causes it. My guess is that it couldn’t load something on the hardware
Hi everyone! It sure has been a while since I talked about taking a break and I can now say that I’m getting back to work on the game, just maybe not at the same pace as before.
I like the ideas that have been shared like new types of mimics and verticality, I’ll try to work on the new stuff but first I wanna prioritize working on the issues from the first prototype like the UI scale or the 3D camera not rendering.
I’m not really sure when will the next update be ready, hopefully won’t take too long but still I’ll be showing progress over time.
Thank you for the update!
I really enjoyed it so far! can’t wait to see what else you add!
Hello again! I just want to share a little something while I keep working on the next update.
Ladders are finally here! I wonder what could be up there?
Sorry I went radio silent for so long, there were unexpected situations that slowed down the progress and I would only show up once I had something done, even if it’s not much.
The plan for the next update remains the same however (ladders now included) so the new weight stage, a new race and the technical fixes are still a must-do and a new map could probably also be on the table, thank you everyone for your patience!
As a little bonus… would you guys be interested in support for custom tilesets?
This is PEAK
Can’t wait for more!!!
I would like to customize the dungeon, but the work involved would be tiring and time consuming…
I would still enjoy the option to have more customization though!
As a little bonus… would you guys be interested in support for custom tilesets?
That looks and sounds AMAZING! i cannot wait for a more finished demo build of the game!
