A dedicated category for sharing free game assets/guides

I believe a dedicated category to sharing free game assets and writing guides would be a great update to the forum. One of the biggest issues most fetish devs have, including myself, is not having access to guides on how to make their games, as well as assets for those games so that they don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time, especially for beginner developers. This would heavily reduce the amount of redundant information given in Project Help and hopefully result in more projects making it to completion.

Currently, guides are often posted in Project Help. This seems fine at first glance, but the problem here is that they share a category with just general questions and then get drowned out by them very quickly. You also likely aren’t going to Project Help if you’re just starting out and want a guide on how to get started with weight gain games. The same applies for publishing free assets, where they would typically go to Projects and get drowned out for the same reason (as well as adding clutter for any non-game devs).

I propose we add a “Project Resources” category, with two subcategories, being “Guides” and “Assets,” to create a new space for people to visit when they would like to get some tips or find assets that may help them create games that they otherwise may not have been able to create without months of training.

thats a great idea, and I also think that having another category for hiring people/requesting help from artists or coders would be good as well

I agree with this but a forum is not quite the best place for that. But we do have a tutorials & resources section on the wiki for it which we hope can help with sharing dev resources like that with others once we open it up to the community.

Though maybe it may be a good idea to have a dedicated section there for assets as well.

This is something we have been wanting to explore for awhile but have not really found a good way to handle it yet. Groups where supposed to help a bit with that but like with alot of features here its not widly known or used so just did not end up panning out. Dedicated category I think may be a good idea but long term would love to be able to proivde something to help devs find people to work with.

There’s a lot of help on the forum for like how to make a game or how to code or use rpgmaker features but there’s not a ton of threads about resources like free sound libraries or free icon libraries or what not… I’d love to see more of that type of discussion.

@namad, just for the record Game-icons.net is a great source for extremely low-impact web-style icons (with some customization) and Kenney is a full free library of more detailed assets for game-making. I know that any posts directly on this thread are probably going to be lost to the flow of the forum over time, so I’m also in favor of having a more dedicated location for information like that - such as the wiki - but since you asked and some other people may not know about them it’s worth sharing regardless.

I’ve had the idea for a while of just making a thread that acts as sort of a ‘job board’ where people could post ‘looking for XYZ’ or ‘artist looking for project to join’. Like one big general thread that wouldn’t spam up the main feed with a hundred individual threads and allows for folks to see thread history of potential people/projects of interest without sifting through a bunch of individual threads.

Didn’t know how well the idea would work out though.

Is there any ETA on the wiki’s release? I’d be interested in helping if anything’s needed. I’ve got about 4 years experience in programming and I’ve set up my own wiki previously for my game.

I hope soon. I need to get with Krodmandoon to work out the template we want to do for the game pages.

But I am looking for users to give early access to to help get feedback and how to organize it if you want in early.
