A Week to Yourself v1.1 - A Quest 5 Weight Gain Game

Hey all! I am brand new posting here! As well as new to the whole, game making thing. This is the first game I ever tried to make and actually completed. I spent a day learning Quest 5 and creating a game in it. It is not super long, but I think it has a decent amount of content for the time I spent on it.

As it stands, I consider it complete, so I probably won’t add any new features or more story. I much rather move on to make a meatier game when I have the time. However, I may make small balance updates and writing updates to the game depending on feedback. If you have any suggestions for things you would like to see adjusted, let me know below. Or if you have any suggestions for future game ideas, I’m open to hearing them.

Anyway, as for the game itself. The story is quite simple. Your usually diet conscious roommate is going on vacation for the week, leaving you alone to your own devices. You start with 12 energy each day. You are free to eat, work, exercise, and invite your friend over (as long as you have enough energy). There are 9 weight stages (Which you can check with the mirror). I highly recommend checking the scale, mirror, and maybe even exercise machine often to see different text, as weight gain can be rather quick in this game. I will have exact weights under the spoiler tab below. There are also 6 different endings, depending on what weight you end up at the end of the 5th day. There isn’t much more to it than that, but I will leave some things out for you to discover on your own.

Well, here is the link for the game, I hope you enjoy! I recommend downloading quest and the file at the bottom right of the website. As the website often freezes when playing games which can lead to lost progress.

Changelog:
Version 1.1 -
Fixed a bug that caused the game to not end if the player only used some of their energy.

Light Spoilers and tips:

  • Under 120lbs
  • 120 to 150lbs

  • 301 to 400lbs
  • 401 to 500lbs
  • 501 to 600lbs
  • Over 601lbs

Weight thresholds for the scale:

  • 0 to 180lbs
  • 181 to 230lbs
  • 231 to 350lbs
  • 351 to 500lbs
  • Over 501lbs

Weight thresholds for the exercise machine:

  • 0 to 150lbs
  • 151 to 200lbs
  • 201 to 300lbs
  • 301 to 400lbs
  • Over 401lbs

**Ending Weight Requirements:

  • Under 110lbs
  • 111 to 180lbs
  • 181 to 230lbs
  • 231 to 300lbs
  • 301 to 500lbs
  • Over 501lbs

General Tips:
Eating out of the fridge is cheaper and has chances for random events to occur. Which can
give you extra weight or even an energy boost. While eating out is more consistent but costs more money to do. Working also has a chance for random events to occur which can lead to weight gain, but I wouldn’t rely on these.

If you want to try to shoot for a certain ending, use the exercise machine to try to balance out your weight. You can also sleep in the bed early to skip having to eat if you are at the weight you want.

Talk to your friend everyday if you want to see the full story. You can only invite them over once a day and it costs money, so plan accordingly.

Its neat, a little uneventful but cute. Like there is very little variety to what happens as you repeat each day.

Lovely game! The gameplay loop is a bit simple but I don’t think it’s a bad thing at all. I love the level of interactability with various stuff in the house, it’s really great

Having problems with freezing with the game sadly

Download it if you haven’t, running games on site is notoriously bad like that.

You can download games from that site?

If you’re playing on Windows OS then you can download and use quest to run the game and not use the site. Downloads are available if the dev has set it up that way. Since quest is linked on the textadventures website on the front page and normally at the bottom of the page. Quest - Write text adventure games and interactive stories (textadventures.co.uk)

I’ve been trying to check out all the endings, and I’m having trouble getting the game to actually end. Everything worked fine on my first playthrough (max weight, all friend scenes), and on the second as well (just going to bed repeatedly to rush through at minimum weight). However, it seems like if I try to combine any other actions with sleep spamming, the game gets confused and won’t actually end once I reach the end of the week. When I check the phone, it says “The week is over. Your roommate is coming back soon.” But that never actually happens, so the game never ends.

Hey, thank you for pointing this out. I believe the bug has been fixed now. I retested it and it doesn’t seem like there is any issues with that anymore.

Thank you for the feedback. As said, I did make it in a very short amount of time so I definitely doesn’t have the depth it could potentially have, I agree there could be more variety when it comes to actions the players can take. If you have any ideas that could make things more interesting, I’d love to hear them so I could implement them in the future, whether that be a patch for this game or a new game entirely.

Describing how the bed is creaking and groaning whenever you go to sleep at higher weigh levels?

Hello
I think you should know when I tried playing it online, 3 times the game suddenly ended and told me “your session has expired” and I had to start all over again.
I’m pretty sure thats not supposed to happen.

That’s just Quest’s site being incredibly unreliable. I highly recommend downloading any Quest games and running them on the standalone player. It solves all of the disconnection issues and runs faster in general.

Ah ok, didn’t know that. THX
