Adorant Adipose is now released on itch for in-browser play

Adorant Adipose is a branching, fixed run text narrative about a woman who thinks she may have figured out how to finally impress the lady of her dreams. (Hint : It involves gaining weight.)

With over twenty endings at roughly half an hour per playthrough, it’s designed for either single session pick-up play or meta-progression long haul grinding.

Runs in browser, through Itch . io, using Twine. Being all text and no art, this entry is free of any genAI.

Many thanks to Bad Idea for volunteering to do so much editing and play testing. I couldn’t have done it without him… and if I had tried to, it would have been a much worse entry.

Content Warnings : Weight gain, obviously. Most of my characters can be jerks, contextually, but some are straight up monsters, and that’s true in this game. Some of those twenty plus endings are very dark. There are elements of domestic abuse, self judgement, and body judgement.

Authorial Intent (Wherein I ramble about what I'm trying to accomplish)

I wanted to put together a game that plays something like my earlier entry “A Unique Diet”, but which doesn’t suffer the same degree of repetition between playthroughs. I wanted to start a game with an opening very similar to Unstable Frienemies, but explore other ways it could have played out with different primary characters. I wanted to make up somewhat for how shallow everyone was in Incremental Gains by doubling down on character depth and complexity. I wanted to explore dramatic irony, whether a character the player disagrees with or can’t see eye to eye with is still able to elicit an emotional connection, and how fairly small modifications in behavior at particular moments in time might have serious, lasting consequences.

I also wanted to put out a game that didn’t use any genAI. I’ve done it before (Fat Focused), but it’s good to remind myself that I’m using stable diffusion as a tool and not a crutch.

I’ve never written in Twine before, and it was a language/parser I’ve wanted to poke my nose into. (I hate it!)

And, finally, I wanted to do something in a collaborative space. Thank you again Bad Idea for all the work you put into helping me make this - it’d be a vastly inferior game without your insights.

brilliant writing hit that sweet spot of length and character complexity that made repeat playthroughs enjoyable in their freshness while not being too complicated to keep straight. looking forward to more

I just finished the first run through and a working through another. This is great!

Short and simple game with solid writing. I got ending 6 my first playthrough and consequently skimmed through endings 2, 4, 12, and 21. I enjoyed ending 4 and 21 the most.

That’s fantastic to hear, because I disagree wholeheartedly! #2 is my, like, third favorite, and I HATE 21. So, thank you for saying that! I was worried that I maybe hadn’t done ending 21 justice in the write-up, since I felt so strongly opposed to it.

Congrats on the new release! Quite an interesting concept. If you do any QoL improvements, it’d be nice on subsequent runs to see which options have lead you to a prior ending you’ve uncovered before.

e.g. (summarizing options and made up numbers)

  • Go on a run (1, 5, 10)
  • Eat chips (5, 6, 18)
  • Fantasize

I agree Twine is a bit of a mess, tried to do some Harlowe stuff but just gets too complex. I’ve been looking for some alternatives.

That’s a good idea, but I don’t think it would work. Most options (in and of themselves) allow you to still get any of the 21 main endings. I think, for example, you could pick that go-for-a-run option and still successfully execute any possible ending if you made the ‘correct’ choices elsewhere.

If the game had firmer branching, where individual choices bifurcated the possible end states, I’d be 100% on board.

2 is good! High gluttony and obsession, cam stuffer The other commenter probably likes 21 for the additional 88lbs.

Appreciate the childhood backstory that unlocks as you progress too.

Edit: Missed a Trisha, Cntl F and replace with Tiffany.

Argh. Thanks. I caught myself using Trisha once and thought “Whoops, it’s a good thing that didn’t slip through. That would be embarrassing!” Oh, well. I’ll look into it.
