Apostles (Latest Update 0.10: July 2023)

@VGWGFET1 I would be lying if I said passion patties wasn’t a huge inspiration for this update! And so glad the heather scene was well liked. I admit, it was a last minute idea I didn’t plan for, but I had the idea and thought, what the heck XD. I think it was well worth it!

Thank you! It was lot of fun getting Lily’s whacky adventure together, so I’m glad it is equally as fun to play!
And thank you, it was hard getting the words together for Sebastian to help Gretel, so I can sigh in relief that the scene came across well! Thanks!

@Altair123

Yaaaaaaay! You always provide above and beyond great feedback Altair, so you have no idea how happy it makes me to hear this update was a hit from you lips!

To be honest, it WAS somewhat going to be just a quick 20 minute side story when I first thought of it, but I just was having more and more and more fun with Lily’s whacky tale that I couldn’t help but overload it with every idea I could! I think the result came out well!

Yay! A “bad end” is something new to Apostles, so I’m glad the first off went off so well! (or so bad…but bad in the good way of bad.) VERY early on, I thought about filling the detective story with bad ends. (some of which were mentioned by Lily at the end, ie failing to solve the case and retiring from detective work to be a full time stay at home fatty, losing to Vinny, losing to his thugs ect.) But I thought that instead of having a bunch of quick 2 minute bad ends, it’s be better to go all in and dedicate significant effort into one ultimate bad end. (And really thank CJ, he made some crazy good bad end sprites, and helped me iron out the details of the events!)

Also a bit of directors commentary here! There was actually going to be ANOTHER ending where after Lily beats the five mercenaries, she’d betray the muffin man and take control of the evil muffin empire for herself! But…that one I cut just because I felt like it didn’t make sense story wise. Lily was fan girl-gasming over The Muffin Man the entire update, she’d never betray him! So the fun elements of the ‘take control’ ending where sent over to “good end” (aka blob sophia.)

Interesting take on sometimes just wanting to roleplay as the villain it might be sensible to add a line about that in to Lily’s own reasoning!

I will neither confirm of deny claims of being told “iT’s tOo sLoW, yOu DoN’t hAvE eNoUgH TaLeNt tO dO a BaD eNd” but I will say it was a lot of fun to do a more fast paced story against Apostle’s usual slow pace, and here is one of the few places I can put a bad end and get away with it without lasting consequences! I don’t have any immediate plans to do another Detective Lily S. Awesome story, but I won’t say we won’t ever get another one later down the line!

Being a bit of a pessimist at times, I had slight worry that there was going to be two reactions to this update. Either
“This Detective stuff is just filler, go back to the real world I want to see some changes!”
or
“The Detective stuff was great, stop ruining it with all the dark gloom and doom!”

As always I’m a bit too dumb with audience reactions, and I’m glad most everyone seems to like both Apostles lighter and darker moments!

Jokes on you, all of the next three updates will focus away from the saviours and the main trio as we focus on how the spring affects Maya’s herb garden!

Whew. I won’t lie, a big sigh of relief there. Every update there is at least one ‘conversation’ or ‘scene’ that I end up writing, then re-writing, then cutting down, then re-writing, then re-writing, then starting over from scratch, then re-writing.
And Gretel and Sebastian’s talk this update was this version’s of that. While not as perfect as I think it could be, I know at a certain point I’m overthinking it, so I will trust what you and others say and accept the scene works! Thank you.

Now I just need to up the ante and add 3 foursomes next update!

Fun fact, I really thought about making a joke where after the intermission break I"d send players to the gallery room and give them the usual “thank for playing guys” message, with a follow up of SIKE! But thought it might be a bit too mean XD.

Oh! Not sure if you have or not have not done so, but if you want a lil more Apostle goodness I recommend checking out going to the workshop first at the start of the update for the alt path!

Fair! I’ll try to make this up to him and the other Ive been neglecting (ed and Al) next updates!

Pop the champagne, a 10/10!

But in all seriousness, thank you! It was a lot of work to get all the pieces of this update together. (from me and everyone who helped me work on this) so I’m happy beyond belief it all came out well! Thank you from the bottom of my heart Altair, both for your playing and feedback, it always helps me fine tune things for the next updates, I doubt I’d be able to have gotten a 10/10 if not for your comments on previous instalments!
And while the muffin update might be hard to beat for awhile, (it had the perfect storm of both sauce and lore events coming together) I will not rest until my weight gain game goes all the way up to 11!

@Elswordjunior Yup. But 3 times, so “Chug Chug Chug.”

@WaxeRed Idk how you managed to make 78+ events in that fucking recipe library without severe hand cramping. Like my hands hurt just thinking about it.

@moonslashx You want to know the best part? About a month after I made all 78 of those, “LazerCamel” was doing beta testing and informed me that it is “recipe” and not “recipie” as I had written 78 times for every book.

So I had to go back and edit. every. single. one.

So uhhhhhhh this update is great and all but I have to know… how do you get the good ending? That final fight seems completely impossible and I thought it was scripted at first until Lilly mentioned there even was a good ending.

For a vague clue I’d say it should be considered more of a puzzle, rather then a true fight.

For specifics-
Each of Lily’s attacks has to do with a certain ‘sense’ and each enemy is weak to a certain ‘sense’.

For example, Big Nose Mcgee is weak too the “got your nose” attack.
The Eye monster is weak to the blinding bomb.
And the angel of funk is weak to Discombobulate

I’ve never felt so bad about mentioning a spellcheck issue…

The balance between the Lily Noir and real world content was really strong in this update. The humour in the muffin plane was great, from the NPCs to the puzzle-meta of not being able to jump over tiny crates and being able to pray to the Niss instead of the Muffin pantheon and having it still work… the character thread of Lily being a hardcore erotica auter in her spare time with this, the ass eating zombies (Sorry Lily but a terrible 2005 horror movie beat you there) and the elf-inflation play if Gretel loses the bet is sweet

This game has made me expect pain so when I saw the “pig boy” muffin I thought it was going to be, like, a muffin made of his flesh lol. In reality it’s probably really hard to miss the scene because it’s right next to the pumpkin even if you don’t read all the recipes, but I’m surprised that such a detailed porking scene can technically be missed. The “loss fantasy” talk with Sebastian was interesting, both from a perspective of “bad ends” in fetish games and real life fantasising about bad things happening.

On the real world side, I’m now even more certain that Gretel caused the Red Days, she even has… red hair! When Jean-Luc and co. roll into town I assume we might find out more then. Those Gretel dream scenes were dark af, Lily’s “I tried to hide it but this is such a relief, thank you” to Gretel’s hanging cut me particularly deep, what a savage. I wish I could give more constructive critique but your writing manages to be super dark without being overly depressing, too much, or exhausting like lots of other dark fantasy stuff, so… just keep doing whatever you’re doing! I guess it’s because even with characters like Gretel backsliding into mental problems, the town and it’s people overall are improving

I think Sebastian feels a little too hostile to Gretel considering she’s completely losing her mind and seeing things (unless it’s a ghoooost), but on the other hand it probably works better if you played 0.8 immediately after 0.7

I’m interested in the whole “death pit” thing they talk about, I remember way back when Penny mentioning dead people going “down, down, down” into a pit, and I think Original-Gretel mentioned it in the last update too. My stab in the dark is that there are no god-based afterlives like Ivo’s heaven-equivalent, etc, and the Niss or Apostles promote peace on earth so much because the only true afterlife is such a shithole? Or maybe it’s just a really deep landfill.

Saucewise, this basically applies to all updates but the amount of fucking (and mindfucking) is really good. Lots of fat games focus on solely the body stuff and not fatties having sex, which isn’t inherently bad, but sometimes I want to see a hot pig boy with a 10ft dick remove someone’s internal organs like Vlad the Impaler. I probably said this before but the mental aspects in particular are great, Veronica being able to press the button while Lily shouts at her in desperation but being too obsessed to care, the wifey threatening to throw Lily on the street if she gets bored of her… again, this is more about the game in general than just this update but I like how “in-character” and developing the sex is imo, Sebastian is pretty vanilla, while Lily is into the twisted mental shit and willing to basically die for a quick orgasm (dominant female option in that pick-thy-partner thing from forever ago)… and of course we have Gretel who doesn’t do it at all!

The passage of time is a cool detail, seeing the town go into spring after years (in real time) feels like a big development, and it sells the fact that the town is becoming nicer and nicer, especially when the game opens on finding a frozen body. Assuming this means the inn guests are going to leave soon, I think the conflict between the patrons (elves, beastials, Vinny, etc) was somewhat underutilised, it feels like that whole thing was just starting off.

I definitely agree with Altair’s point about some sort of story/chapter summary or journal, it took me like 10 seconds of staring to remember who Gina was lol. I might try making one myself in notepad if I play the whole thing again

In short, amazing as usual. I hope that stray dog becomes the replacement fourth Saviour to avenge his fallen canine comrade that Gretel smoked! …Also, that slowed-down “Do you know the muffin man” song is scary as fuck

@Amygdala Thank you, it was a lot of fun to make, so I’m glad it was a lot of fun to play!

I’m not usually a fan of meta, or fourth wall breaking, but Lily telling the story of Lily S. Awesome allowed me to tell those jokes I’m usually allowed to tell. Example being that behind the scenes, most of the maps or in game switches are named things like “stinky butt 6969” “fuck switch” or just “snfndnkfkskd sd” because I’m too lazy to name anything sensible!

“A muffin made of his flesh” No way! Lily loves him too much! She’d never do that! Unless making a muffin out his flesh was sexual, then she’s 100% do that XD.

As for the scene its current form, I wanted it to be optional as not everyone will find giant unrelestic cock porn as fun as I do…but at the same time I wanted to be a REAL bastardman about it and put it right next to the book you actually have to find. (My sprite guy CJ was none to pleased as he wanted to avoid seeing it at all costs even after he made it! )

Oh, and thank you I’m glad the loss fantasy talk with Sebastian was good! I had a lot of fun writting it. That too is probably pretty meta, as L is pretty much saying all the things I’d say, and Sebastian is saying most of the things friends say when they hear it from me XD!

Red hair = Red Days and it just goes to show…all gingers are evil!

And thank you very much, always glad to hear my writting, be it the comedic side or the mega dark side, are working well!

As for Sebastian coming across as hostile, that is very fair! I will say that he didn’t run back into the room with the “it’s tough love time” plan in his head. He legitamitly lost his cool and was furious with Gretel, and him screaming at her was the result.

No comment! Other of course then a smile to know the little foreshadow details aren’t all going under the radar

Thank you again! I’ll be honest, coming up with the concept to a lot of these scenes is some of the most fun in the game, but actually finding the right words to right it is always a challenge. Writting effecient fetish stuff is hard, as the margin for cringe is always there!

Making the Spring time version of AuburnWoods is something I’ve been wanting to do for a VERY long time, so I was glad to finally show it! That said, despite my months for planning on it, it was only about 2 hours before I sent Beta versions that I thought “Wait a minute, it’s AUBURNwoods, I can’t use green trees!” So I had to go find those Auburn trees online and quickly paste them in XD.

As for the inn conflicts, you are right they are a little too rushed for my liking, I wanted to spend more time exploring with them at the inn, but Gretel’s content and the Muffin update kind of forced them to the sides. That said, even if they are leaving the inn, Broken Road is still just a short trip away. So Vinny, the Elf couple, the old lady ect, won’t be gone never to be seen again next update!

I’d probably use that journal more then anyone. More often then not I’ll have thoughts like, “Ah shit, what did I name that guy? ugh…need to go back and find it.” And going back to naming things “Stinky butt” most of the characters sprites I’ve labeled things like “Fuckface” “Booty Boyo” “suckle my duckle” so past me is always making things hard for present me!

And Thank you as usual for all the great feedback! ALways makes the updates worth it!

Thank LazerCamel for the rendition of “Do you know the Muffin Man” he helped with that and cleaning up a lot of the other tracks I used!

And as for Sebastian’s dead dog…RIP Mr. Puppa-Cuppa, you will be missed.

Apologies is this has been answered before, but how do you access this room? I just finished my play through and don’t recognize it. Amazing game by the way!

Sorry, that is the work-in-progress gallery room, but I haven’t yet been able to finish it!
Hopefully it will be in next update.

Liking the update so far! Naming the muffins “Majestic Mammary” turned out to be uncannily prescient of me.

Personally, I named the muffins “Cake” because I thought it would be hilarious that the world of that adventure just never understood the concept of cupcakes, so someone inventing them blew everything out of the water

Updated to 7.1, with just some minor fixes! With that out of the way, it’s full steam ahead to the first update of spring! Stay tuned!
