Apostles (Latest Update 0.11: July 2024)

Well I was right this update got dark and I love it and I can not wait to see what happen next.

Woah. Thanks. I’ve said it before, but comments like this…well they make me really happy to be making the game. Even though I enjoy making the game, it’s an even better feeling to know what I make is accepted and enjoyed by others  So thank you for your consistent feedback and review!
But enough on me onto the review!

While I certainly enjoyed reading the Pros, I won’t go by them block by block as to avoid taking up space in the thread going, “yeah I am pretty great aren’t I, bow before my WRITTING skillz!!!”

But chiefly I am glad the darker tone did not make people turn their nose up at the update. I always felt like the best high happy moments are best gotten after climbing out of the deepest darks. I know the Mauve section is…a bit much, but I wanted to make a contrast that leaves people question how they feel on Lily. The update starts and you might feel more then a little disdain for what kind of person she is, Being Pro-Rape is a usually no go for ‘likable characters’ but at the same time her ending makes it hard not to feel bad for her.

And I can wipe the worry from my brow that the political/racial/money dealing/ at the inn went over well! In hindsight I realized that the latter half of the update is one very very very long cutscene. (Everything from The girls returning to the inn, to Lily making it back to her room is just a series of text boxes, with no player input save hitting space!) So happy is me to learn that characters and feeding bits distracted from that little pacing mishap!

While I am quite pleased the reaction the ‘the end’ section went over well, I will hold back the urge to spoil the truth! All I can see is in some areas you are spot on, other areas will surprise you!

And yay! Thomas the vetern gets some love! I felt like I kept giving him a short stick of content so it was nice to give him an way to shine.

The dreading Cons!

Hey that’s Violet the Violent to you! But a fair criticism of the ol girl. All I can say is that I hope to make her lack of an arc, the crux of her arc. Which can be a bit stale to be sure, so I try to fill her life with the whacky hijinks of Pat, Bill, Hatta, and the other O-Os she’ll meet. And of course there is the section that comes after beating the TOXIC HORROR…

Of all the long running mysteries I put in I did not expect Byzantine’s fate to spark such intrigue! But all that I can say is that although we didn’t see much of him this update it’s not as if we did not hear from him!

Once more thank you for the review of both my own highs and lows! While it might take me a bit I’ll aim for a perfect 10/10 for you on 0.5!

My b! Tried doing it using only one spoiler last night, forgot i had to do one for each, ty for reminding me

So first time playing and I’m loving it so far, but I appear to have hit a bug or something that’s not allowing me to progress. At the first time reflecting the progress I’ve made on the town in the hall of people, I’m unable to continue viewing Veronica’s memory past her coming down the stairs, all she does is stand at the bottom of the steps and can’t move. Am I supposed to be able to do something their, or is there some kind of automated event that’s supposed to take place?

out of Curiosity is there anyway to “win” Violets sections?

because i swear given that you can make pretty decent progress in them i swear there must be a secret way to like reach the top as her right?

yes i have been replaying all her sections over and over again to see if there is anyway to reach the top and “win” it lmao

I’ve been playing through the sequence where you go through all the characters’ memories of different townsfolk, and there are a couple places I’m getting stuck.

The first is Ed and Al’s sequence, when it moves to the inn. Gretel is stuck in place in front of the fireplace, with Veronica beside her, and nothing else happens. All I can do is use the menu to leave the game.

The second is in Veronica’s sequence, after she goes downstairs. Lily is there with a stuffed Sophia, but the scene doesn’t progress and I can’t move Veronica at all.

@Gizz @DreadRoach
Sorry about that! RPGmaker has a pesky map limit of 999 which means I have to re-use them often or risk going over. As you found, in doing so I broke the old ones. An easy fix however.
Here’s an updated game download. Don’t worry old saves can be carried over, just copy and replace the ENTIRE save folder found in ‘www’.

Sorry again for the bug, hope you have fun with the rest!

Glad Violet’s staircase is offering some fun! For the record while you can’t ‘beat’ them as of yet, getting further usually offers rewards. For now.

First try- the highest you can get is the specter of Death
Second try- The highest you can get is the statue.
Third try- The try from this update…trust me you’ll know if you got there.

Ah great stuff! Thanks!

No problem! Let me know if any other bugs like that occur and I’ll fix em in a jiffy.

Well let me first say that this is probably the best character work and writing in any fetish, or frankly indie game I’ve played in a good long while. The darkness exists but is more a flavor than it is some kind of blocker of enjoyment, and a good story needs flavor.

I also for sure had a moment thinking to myself “I wonder what greed is like in their pantheon?” Then proceeded to think of a whole bunch of things they could be until it finally dawned on me that we had characters in a casino called Gamorra and I felt like an idiot for a solid minute for not making the connection.

But there were parts that had really disconnected character motivations that confused me.

  1. Gretel

Why is she having waterboarding/drowning time with Violet with what felt like zero context. Is this just a thing Gretel does? She gives no real indication that she has a joy of water torture and I have a hard time accepting “well she was bad or whatever” as a solid reasoning. Mainly because if she wanted to torture Violet she would just deprive her of sentient contact for long period of time and then just make climbing the stairs her reward.

Violet would literally just start unraveling because humans can’t actually take isolation, we start losing our shit real fast without interaction.

  1. Violet

What is she gaining at this point? What does she want? Does she want to escape? Or does she just want to live in a Valhalla like existence forever? Idk, her resistance feels very odd unless she has the self awareness of a slug.

  1. L

Why is her dad still alive? Does she not like him or is assisted suicide just not in their moral code? It seems strange that she’s just submitted to the fact that he’s just going to exist in a permanent state of terror.

Also logistically speaking I find it weird that they are a group of powerful magicians with near god like powers that can’t cure dementia.

I want to be clear it’s not bad writing I just feel like more context is needed. I’m not saying give away the plot but like your writing is good enough that I hold it to a logistical standard that I wouldn’t hold other games to.

Hey thanks! Glad the story could capture your attention! And that’s a good way to put it for the darker bits to add a bit of flavoring. Especially as it makes for a pun in a game about WG.

But onto your context bits!

While somewhat of a cop-out answer, but ‘disconnected character motives’ would a good way for the feeling I WANT players to feel on Gretel. One second she’s teaching Veronica how to cook food, the next she’s breaking ever bone in Violet’s body, the next second she is staying up waiting for Lily just to comfort her, the second after she creating more monsters to attack Violet.
Gretel is meant to be a complete contradiction.

But you are right if she wanted to just break Violet down there would be faster ways to do it. As you said with sensory deprivation or just not giving her the ‘breaks’ on the stairs and just let monsters eat her liver over and over again.

I guess you’ll just have to see what Gretel’s ‘goal’ is for Violet!

As for Violet herself, well her goal is simple. She wants to kill Gretel, and is quite determined to make that happen.

L well…yes while the 3 do have a rule against killing in ANY form, even without I’d say she still wouldn’t just put her father down. That might be one logical solution, but keep in mind L is one of the most emotional members of the cast.

Think of it perhaps a bit like people who just refuse to pull the plug on coma patients. Lily just…isn’t ready to let go of them. And instead does everything possible to make them as comfortable as possible. If you go to the far right of the mansion ground, you’ll find a butler npc who mentions the lengths that goes towards.

And yes, an inability to cure dementia does seem odd from out group…let’s just say you haven’t heard the full story of L’s parents just yet!

Oh and no Comment on the Apostle of Greed in connection Gomorrah!

But thank you for your feedback and thoughts! Hope the game keeps your interest as more of the story unfolds!

I ran into a bit of an issue- when I transferred my saves over from the previous version, something went wrong, and the game isn’t seeing all of them. Is there a fix?

I had the same problem, so I’ve been going through it again.
I found something handy, even if it glitches up in some spots, but holding down W in game will cause text to just speed by.

That might just be a way how RPG maker handles saves. Which is to say, with 0 sense. Saves won’t appear in the save folder unless you keep the ‘config.rpgsave’ and ‘globalsave.rpg’ over. And then even STILL there will be a bug where the save won’t look right, IE( it will have a 2 minute playtime/won’t have the right characters in party) but loading it should fix the problem.

And failing that if the game is only seeing some of them, try renaming the saves that it’s not seeing into the saves it is seeing. Like if savefile 3 is not showing but save file 4 is. Rename 3 to 4 and try loading it.

Is there something I’m missing with Violet’s puzzle before she meets Gretel ?

I’ve tried bashing the parents and child in the order they wanted (Father, mother, child), the sailor then the nun, switching the nun and the sailor, and switching doing those two before the family.

While the mother says she wants to be bashed after her husband and before her child she doesn’t need to be bashed RIGHT after. You can bash one member of the family then move onto the nun/sailor then move back to the family.

I think it just clicked for me. Thanks.

There’s a thing with Heather’s Second Sequence with Sebastian (In the aftermath of the burning arrows test) where the game regularly keeps crashing. That wouldn’t normally be quite as much of an issue except it’s a long sequence of cutscene with no chance to save between finishing the test and the end, so I’ve basically been having to take everything in until it crashes, then speed back up to where it left off and see how much further I can get before it crashes again. This is double frustrating because there are two slow text-crawls in this sequence.
