Apostles (Latest Update 0.11: July 2024)

There’s…actually a fair bit of plot that happens in the five minutes after that and the next scrolling text scene. Sorry. I’m asking around on other forums trying to find the source of this strange bug.

This is outstanding! I love the morally ambiguous protagonists; they’re clearly up to something and using the town for their own ends, but at the same time not complete villains, and there are so many little hints as to their background. You’re weaving a really fascinating tale here.

I didn’t encounter any bugs, but I did notice a lot of typos - do you need a proofreader? I’d be happy to do it if you’d be willing to shoot me a copy of the script, and it’d really improve the game’s polish and presentation.

Thanks! I’m so glad how many people like the story here, my deepest fear was that it wouldn’t land!

Yeah, typos is something I need to work on, but I think that’s something I’ll handle myself. As you said it more then a few and I’d feel bad to make any else look through them all. At least for now.

I am however looking for two or three early beta testers for my next release in (2-3) months so as to avoid so many bugs. EDIT Thank you to all those who messaged me willing to help, hopefully it’ll make for a better release. (If you encountered no bugs I’m guessing you didn’t download my first public version where my dramatic opening was thwarted by a tree.) If you’d be interested in that kind of early play shoot me a message and I’ll send you an early copy when 0.2 is ready to come.

So interestingly, Fix 6 of this game has allowed my save file to progress after the feast. And I like how the three missionaries are able to just make a new basement. Won’t say anymore than that, it might be considered spoilers.

One last thing I wanna say is how I really like that there’s variation depending on who you play as during certain parts of the game. Right now, I’ve only seen one story variation (writing this after checking if I can get past the winter feast scene on this version fix), but that’s a detail I really like to see in writing.

Edit: Okay, so I found a different bug this time. Playing as Violet during her ascent of multiple staircases, this happens after fighting Skeleton Pat. Apparently, surviving all her attacks lets you move beyond her to a fight with an orc. Well, when the fight starts, the menu doesn’t show up, so I pretty much get stuck in that start of the fight after their dialogue.

Ah dang, I really thought I got that bug. In case you weren’t able to move on, here is an apology save after that point.

Oh and thanks! I enjoyed how the split paths turned out as well, it was fun on my end as well to think of ways on how each of them took on the same problem in there own ways.

Out of curiosity, is there any real difference between getting to the orc or getting beaten by Skeleton Pat?

I’m currently in this strange gray area where I want to ask if there’s any content I might have missed now that I’ve beaten this version but also don’t want to spoil myself.

This game was one of the few games that has left me wanting more in the best way possible. So often I normally just skip dialogue and turn off the sound until I get to the fetish material in these games, but I found myself being drawn into this world and being genuinely invested in the characters. Gretel, L, and Sebastian aren’t just generic evil dopes that as soon as they’re alone don’t just turn around with they’re hands together and go “Yesss~ my evil plan is going perfectly.” You can see even in they’re most privet moments that they do really just want to help the people, it’s just that they’re idea of help leads to both fattening the town and eventually some mysterious thing that only seems sinister now due to its mystique. Maybe it’s bad, maybe it’s not and I’m very much interested in finding out.

Good work mate, keep up the community communication and get a proof reader and you’ve got a game changing game.

Hello hello, I heard you might need someone to proof read your things? Well, I think I can help out with that!
I really like the game btw, great story and actually pretty engaging, and I’d be very much available to help you out with the little grammatical hiccups(for free of course), so that this game can really get the recognition it deserves.
So yeah, hit me up if you’d be interested!

I agree, the fact that i have multiple theories on where the story is going (and only one of them i really don’t want since i’m not into vore) really makes me excited for where this game is going with its story.

Not much, I think there is a line of dialogue Violet has but that’s it as of yet. Much like Cerberus it’s just a bit of challenge to anyone who wants to take it on. Perhaps in later versions I can think of a good ‘secret’ reward/scene to anyone who climbs high enough.

Thanks! Ambiguous morals + mystique was pretty much exactly what I was hoping to create in regards to the missionaries, so I’m glad it landed well!

Glad to hear you like’d it! Right now I’m currently working on proof reading solo as I’d feel bad on lugging that work onto another just yet, (as you probably noticed there are more then a few typos to correct)

Aaah, I know that feeling…
Well, good luck to you on that endeavour and hey, my offer still stands if you ever need a second opinion!
For now I’ll just be waiting on whatever you have planned for us - I’m sure it’ll be quite something…

I’m interested in seeing where this goes.

Hey, uhh, I just got past the spooky scary pat but I think my game broke…
I climb the stairs, get to the Orc, begin the fight but neither me nor the Orc do anything, so we just stand there.
Can’t get out of it either, since there is no menu or anything, gotta quit the game! That’s especially infuriating since i saved right before it, so I guess i gotta replay the entire game up to this point again (I guess it serves me right for not having different saves).
I dunno if this is just something weird with my game or not, anyone have something similar happen?

Yeah sorry, bug I haven’t gotten a chance to get to yet. Here’s a save.

Oh wow, thanks dude!
Guess I must’ve missed others talk about it, but hey, you’ll get to it when ya get to it.

Yo, so I decided to due some impromptu bug testing for your latest patched version which I’ll call V1.6. As such I wasn’t as intense in testing as a proper play tester may be but I did what I could and this is what I found. It worked relatively well and what you had fixed was fixed, but there are still somethings either new or old that I’d like to list off.

  1. During certain scenes where characters are meant to not be playable you can still move them around. This in of itself is not game breaking in most cases but there is one scene in particular that soft locks the game which I bring up in a separate point. Here’s the list of scenes I’ve found so far.
1a. Pretty much the entirety of Lilly’s and Veronica’s scenes in the Broken Road Crossing you can
move Lily around freely during dialogue.
1b. The small scene when Gretal/Lily/Sebastion climb the wall to get to Dina you can move them for a brief moment.

  2. As I said above there’s one notable example that’s worth signaling out. During the scene where Maya and Bel return to town from the search for Dina, while the window to do so is very narrow, it’s possible to turn Bel around and mess with the scripting, stoping the dialogue or character movements from doing their next action, soft locking the game.

  3. You can reenter the mayors home as Sebastian after going through the scene where he avoids Heather from molesting him and replay it.

It wasn’t too much and like I said I didn’t do intense pixel by pixel testing so there might have been stuff I missed, but either way I hope this helps and I’ll eagerly await your next version release.

Big thanks for the reports! I’ll take care of them tonight!
Edit: I think I got to all of them, expect for #2, I haven’t been able to find the cause or replicate it. Can you go into detail into what happened? I’m not really sure how Bel or even Maya could get turned around as you aren’t in control of either of them. The player should be invisible at that point.

Also a slightly selfish request for anyone who had the ‘game freeze on black’ on scrolling text bug. I’m still scratching my head on what is causing that. If anyone who has beaten the game but has had that bug can could you go into the end room and tell me which scenes break the game upon reflection?
