Just wrapped up .11 and, as is normal for every Lily update, it’s some of the greatest updates to the game, which is saying a lot cause even when it doesn’t fully hit with me, my god these updates are always amazing and reason to break out the fine china. While this doesn’t top the Muffin update in my heart, it sure as shit didn’t slouch in the attempt.
SPOILERS FOR .11 DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T PLAYED IT YET AND GIVE A SHIT
This is all my opinion so please don’t take it as objective fact
Pros:
The Growth: The main focus of this update being L and her confidants all seemingly maturing really was the spearhead of how goddamn wholesome this update is, and cards on the table I love dark shit as much as the next weirdo, but Dark stuff is even better when some wholesome stuff is shown as sort of a “Light at the end of the tunnel” of sorts, seeing L start thinking through her actions and not rely so heavily on her abilities, she has the Luxuria powers of Voice but understands it well enough to understand its limitations. L did not take one this episode imho unlike
Missionaries: Ngl the Apostles we have at home getting their shit rocked was unironically quite entertaining and a good showing of why Clair(?) is a Savior, the way she flipped on them and the L from the flea market (Which I also liked the touch of her voice having inconsistent coloring to show how she has far less control over her ability then L does, I interpreted it as the speech equivalent of listening to audio through Headphones with a wiring issue) and seeing how someone would kill Apostles was a good showing of why Clair is the antagonist and why we should be scared of her, even if Sebastian blows it off.
Apotsles: Who had “Apostles Weed Episode” on their 2024 bingo charts? Cause I sure as shit didn’t, definitely made sense considering Weed induces (in my experience) all 3 of our Apostles sins in user, but still, considering the fact I always had Nothin but a G thang as Sebastians unofficial theme ever since “You know you’re kind of a cunt” that did not fail to give me a good laugh
The Growth ;): The sauce was plentiful and resplendent as I hope in every update but definitely such in Lily updates, Props to CJ-X4 for once again killing it on sprite work! From the end scene’s gains to the Ice Cream Party this update, while not as packed as the Muffin Update (and thankfully the scenes I didn’t personally like were easily skippable and I was just looking at them out of morbid curiosity) the sauce here continues to be VERY well done in both writing and sprite work.
Vinny the Rekt: Waxer seems to be very good at making heels, cause lesser writers I’d write off some parts of this episode as just being playing to the crowd and not really all that interesting, stuff like the fact that the major focus of this update being lesbian stuff (Prefer Hetero stuff personally only since they focus on the relationship proper and give you a reason to want them either in your harem in Porn Games or to succeed in more normal media, rather than just sitting on the fact that it’s lesbians now clap) and Girl Power stuff (Normally i’d be waiting to see Vinny take the town and want to explore his backstory but Waxer not only put in the work to make him such a bastard that you actually do want to see him kneel but actually made the girls feel like they were worth rooting for) so it didn’t feel grating to me.
What a TWEEST!(And theory time): I definitely see what Waxer meant about how no one saw the twist coming, I admittedly only didn’t because I assumed you could only have one Apostleship per person and that her violent side was more an embodiement of her childhood and the part of Gretel that saw how broken and fucked the world was and wanted to return in kind. Albeit this does personally make me think my theory about Gretel being a body jumper and Violet being her next “host” body is more true now, since she has lived a very long time, I believe even the game notes how strange it is that a human like her has lived as long as she has considering Sebastian has been with her for a while and the game during that major magic exposition dump mentioned how mana capacity is a genetic and hard coded thing in people, so a powerful enough mage with who feels the reaper knocking at their door (Or as the game calls it (if I remember correctly) the hallway) may develop a way to do so(Lord knows Lady Cynthia is enough of a cunt that permanent hijacking of a body is not out of her wheelhouse, and it has been implied that Gretel is one of her “Daughters” if not outright confirmed. That’s just my game theory and would explain why Gretel is the most mysterious of the Apostles(In that we know the least about her) and why Violet hasn’t been seen in IRL years (She’s not getting the fattening treatment, she’s being prepped for the transfer and now that we have that twist, she’s being prepped and humbled so when Gretel offloads the burden of Wrath onto her she also uses the sin to improve the world rather then harm it, after all some times anger is justified).
Worldbulking: I am so glad that we got more knowledge about the world of Apostles, the whole subplot of trying to see who would genuinely benefit from leaving the kingdom vs. staying was interesting to see both from a personal want sense (World Roundvolution run BB!) and a moral sense (Who needs to get away from the carnage and hell that war wroughts) and learning even more about how petty and sadly realistic this feudal civil war is. A family drama wrecking a nation while another one quietly profits, part of me wonders if Lady Cynthia had some hand in forming the Empire, maybe a devil deal to help bring an end to the red days (Hi Gretel) and giving that person power and glory in exchange for listening to Lady Cynthia(Who might as well be a goddess of madness at this point) and making a world filled with suffering, more theories (albeit that one is new)
Cons:
Dead Memories: I really think this game needs some sort of scene replayer ala Roundbound. There are some great scenes that I would love to revisit but because I either don’t want to overwrite saves and risk losing another presave to a great scene or have to sift through old updates to find the specific scene I want (Lord knows I have gotten the point of the dog sequence and do not need to see that again) I can’t enjoy them, it’s gotten so bad that ever since .7 I have been keeping old versions of the game as catalogues to figure out which one I want to replay, because I love the writing and the sprite work so much, but replaying the ENTIRE game just because I want one scene is too much imo, it’s only gonna get worse the longer the game updates, so, as a major fan of the game, PLEASE add some sort of scene replaying system to the game so scenes like Lilies victory in the bet, Heathers brainwashing chair experience etc. doesn’t get lost to time cause of a save limit
Feast of Second-Placers: If you had to end on that scene, I really wish that it would have ended FAR more debaucherously with Sebastian getting in on the action (Like that drunken night in the Muffin Update), I mean come on dude, it’s an L update! You could have explained it away as Sebastian needed to blow off some steam and get out of his funk so just let loose to get his head on straight. It would have been perfect to have a morning after with them groggily readjusting themselves and THEN having Gretel drop that bombshell, like I was hyped when L started to indulge and then nothing.
Cliffhanging on by a thread: Better hope this show gets renewed or else fans will hate you :^)
Overall, this update continues to justify why Apostles is the best game on the site and one of my favorite porn games of all time, continuing the balance of sauce and story that makes it stand out amongst other games that usually lose said balance and miss out because of it, this episode was worth the wait and with this update being a 9/10, I eagerly await to see where the Apostles take us next update! Keep killing it Waxer!
Tl;Dr L update with Lesbians, Weed and that sweet sweet justice what more does a balanced breakfast require?
