Archiving the Chatbots Subcategory

For those of you who may have not seen the response on the feedback thread, as part of trying to address the issues raised we are going to be archiving the Chatbots category and treating further chat bot posts as off topic.

Originally, I believe we made that category to try to separate chat bots out of the projects category. At the time I think they where being explored as ways to create text adventures or AI DMs, but since then it got out of control. All of us on the admin team personally agree that they don’t really fit on the site and should be removed.

Due to that, after this post goes up I will begin closing the existing chat bot topics and then moving them to Archive. Any further posts concerning chat bots will now be considered off topic and either be deleted or locked and moved to archive depending on what we feel is best for that post.

If I recall, I added the chatbot category to my ignore list a long time ago because it was one of the spammiest and least interesting categories for me. I can only imagine how many other topics had been buried in the “Latest” tab because of it. I for one will not miss it.

All I can say is, good riddance!

I use chatbots not too rarely, and I feel like they can have their space. Unfortunately so many people just made the worst chatbots ever and just cluttered the Latest tab.

I think sunsetting the section is the right choice.

But I do think a few that got shared were pretty nice. I think having them all concentrated inside a single not locked thread would be better.

Chatbots fill an unique niche, but unfortunately their category was spammed with shovelware and ads for really shitty providers.

Wish it could’ve been different.
