Attagirls: stuffing tactics with cute ant girls (QuimblyJam 2)

Made for Team Quimbly’s Bloated Belly Jamapalooza 2 with the theme “Rivalry”.

In this game, you play as one of two competing ant queens, and your goal is to use your spawned worker ants to gather food from picnic baskets and bring it back so you can stuff yourself silly. After feeding yourself with as much as your belly can hold, go to sleep to increase your maximum belly capacity, as well as convert all the food into eggs for spawning more units. First to store 99 excess eggs wins!*
*victory reward is still undecided; I personally consider it a victory when I reach 24/24 capacity before the CPU does, and then I celebrate by opening gooning mode and taking the reward into my own hands. post-jam version will have a proper reward at 99

In my opinion, the proper way to do justice to this theme is to create not just an antagonistic figure, but a real opponent with gameplay presence who is playing by the same rules that you are. While this game is more forgiving in some ways than the other jam entries due to not having a real-time element, be aware that this is a real-ass strategy game that pits you against a competent CPU player that, while not perfect, will smoke you if you waste too many turns messing around.

Attagirls uses a non-real-time Active Time Battle system, meaning that each unit has an individual turn timer that grants them a turn when it reaches 00, and turn timers tick down at the same rate for all units on the board until someone reaches 00. You can only move units when their turn timer (two digits at the top right) reads 00. Left click to confirm, right click to cancel.

Food baskets must be attacked in order to scatter their contents on the ground nearby, where they can be picked up. Units can pick up food within adjacent tiles, but not if an enemy is standing on top of the tile.

Carpenter, Honeypot, and Argentine ants are designed for food gathering, while Shield, Trapjaw, and Bullet ants are designed for combat. You (and your opponent) have a total of 12 deployment slots that cannot be exceeded; most units take 2 deployment slots. Argies take 1 slot and Bullets take 3. For more details about their special properties, consult the mouseover text. Stuck and not sure what units to use? just run all carpenters lol, it worked for me in testing

plans for post-jam updates:
-unlockable sandbox mode, and customizable parameters for standard mode (increasing food generation, max spawn slots, etc). only the downloadable version will retain unlocks between sessions
-breast expansion as you accumulate eggs, maybe (this is something that was not possible with Gravenous Glutton but should be fairly achievable because this game’s artwork is drawn by hand)
-two candidates for new units: dracula ant and fire ant
-in-game tutorial screen so future players don’t have to read all of that ^^
-SFX
-victory screen artwork with the classic yuri belly press
