Big Aspirations (0.7.4) A weight gain interactive story

After fully playing through a number of times now I think it’d be good to set up the overtime to forcibly trigger when money goes below 50. Just to get a jump start back up. Because of the amount of work events overtime either seems to trigger multiple times in a row or very rarely in my experience.

Grocery shop - special event tied to the Golden Dubloon, you throw it in the Fountain.

Hot dog - if you walk, you sometimes encounter hot-dog guy. If you buy enough hotdogs, you’ll eventually hit two different hot-dog eating competitions that will award you vouchers.

Oooh… Is there a use for the AE vial yet and I missed it?

That’s the thing- I never run into her! I’ve seen the blue-haired coworker who now just says hi (no prompt), but I haven’t seen her and, in fact, I’ve barely seen her at all in an entire playthrough.

Honestly, as awesome as this game is (it’s already shaping up to be one of the absolute bests on this site!) I think the reliance on RNG for certain events is its biggest flaws, with certain long strings of events (like the fairy) requiring you to spend several days just walking in hope you’ll get the fountain, while some other events that are part of a huge pool of events (like the slimming-down coworker) have very few chances to happen.

For the fairy, I suggest making the fountain a location you can access from the main menu like the donut shop or the occult shop, that way it’s much easier to go back there

As for the coworkers, perhaps the office system could be reworked a bit so you have an option to visit a random coworker every day through a prompt, but the coworker is random? This way people who aren’t interested in coworkers don’t have to click one more time just to get through the office sessions whenever a coworker event happens (because now it’ll need to be prompted instead of being random), and people who are interested in them have more chances to actually see them? I don’t know, I’m just spitballing lol.

Whatever you do, I trust this project will only get better and better! Good luck on improving it even further!

Okay, so if she is at that stage then you need to have a voucher in your inventory to give her, if you have used one on a differnet coworker, or if you ate the glizzard at the hot dog stand then you will have to wait to acquire another one. Currently you can only acquire 2 in a playthrough, though more will become available as the game gets more updates.

You will need to get the waitress at the buffet to max size, then you can give her the vial

My thought process on the quests tide to RNG events is that there is no time limit associated with them, the player can try to rush them if they so choose, or they can just go with the flow and do them when the opportunities arise, I plan for this game to have a few more stages to go before the end and a decent amount of these quests become avaiable fairly early on so there should be enough time in a full playthrough to get these quests completed.

What does the amulet do?

It provides a daily passive weight gain, you should see a line of text that reads “you gained some weight during the night.” In the morning after you purchase it

(Warning! This is a pretty extensive review of the game. I had some creative ideas, with the game’s foundation in mind. I hope you don’t mind the length.
Edit: Forgot to mention, that these are all suggestions. I don’t really know what the author has in mind. Just my opinions.

Introduction

I am probably going to echo a few sentiments, but I do think this game has quite a bit of potential. Before I go into my criticisms and ideas going forward, I’ll review the positives first. I played the game a few times for the record.

Positives

Firstly, the game is very ambitious, not going to lie. It has a lot of engaging aspects and quite a few interactions that make give it a more lively feel. Though the characters could use quite a bit of work, it’s a solid foundation. The game also seems to be going straight to the point, which has its flaws (which I’ll go over in a bit), but I do like it since it’s more attuned to what it stands for. In other words, the title of the game says everything about it.

Criticisms

For my critiques, I won’t go into detail about the images not working, more so design flaws. This will go into some spoiler territory, so others have been warned.

  1. I have read the previous comments, and you said you wanted a slow gain pace. The current design of the game doesn’t really suit that narrative because of the weight stages themselves. A lot of the content isn’t accessible until weight stage four from my experience, which kind of defeats the point of going for the slow gain approach.

I’m not saying disregard weight stages, but rather not railroad the game to that. Like changing the hotdog vouchers being restricted to stage four, to just a certain number of hotdogs. The coffee maker as well. (Because at the point where you do get the coffeemaker, the game is basically over. Therefore making the extra energy kind of useless.) The buffet option too, for similar reasons. The game is based around weight stages making the slow gain pace idea counterproductive.

  1. I’m going to be honest, the gold doubloon and the amulet should switch places in the store. The gold doubloon with the fairy already has RNG, prolonging her quest already. This is also why the fairy should be at the very beginning. That and the amulet are already unnecessary because of the scrolls, going back to my first point.

  2. Half of the NPCs you could just ignore, like the streamer and the donut shop lady. The same goes for the phone calls. I’m not entirely sure where you’re going with the relationship aspects, a lot of it is just fluff, and nothing else other than that.

I feel like the streamer should be another way for you to get money. Social media being a new way to generate money reduces the incentive for the player to go eat out (Since that’s the only income source in the game). This way, progression isn’t concentrated on the player eating and gaining weight.

Content Ideas

There are a few ideas like I mentioned earlier with the streamer. However I want to go further than that. In regards to the relationship overhaul, I think there should be more incentive to go on dates to improve relations with the people you have contact with, which could unlock new items at the shop for the player to use for more interactions. You could also have more NPC interactions so that way it doesn’t strain the AI in the short term. (I read that you had problems with the scaling with the AI.) The hotdog vouchers being the only form of interaction seems pretty limiting.

The bus scene also has a lot of potential for introducing new NPCs as well.

Going off of the streamer idea, I think the player should be able to eventually buy out Jamie’s business, buying out shares from her company. Being an anonymous buyer, and going undercover. With more in-depth relations with coworkers as you go along. Fitting the theme of big aspirations.

Conclusion
As previously mentioned, the game has a lot of potential. This is scratching the surface of potential ideas (Don’t even get me started on the fairy). A grand foundation nonetheless, I have some high hopes for this game. I hope the game is successful, after all, it does have big aspirations.

tl;dr
Game is railroaded a lot, don’t do that if you want slow progression. You also have many possibilities with this game it’s not even funny.

Where do you find the buffet? Also what kg is the final weight stage at?

You find buffet while walking and above I think 150kg or so. You can’t find it until fairly late in the game.

Final weight stage is at 200kg

If you made the game downloadable from itch, people could fix these errors themselves by comparing the missing image message to the folder of images and seeing if there was a similar filename and then renaming it for themselves. That’s the sort of thing at least I’d do. It’s one reason I like it when html itch games offer download buttons.

I think the developer previously mentioned the fact that he doesn’t want to show any files to the public before he finishes making his game

Do the item you get for maxing some characters do something?

First of all, thank you for the bug report that will be addressed in the next update, second, the items you get from NPC’s for completing their storylines currently don’t have a use, but they will be part of a future quest

Good to know, what about the dating scenes and interactions with the NPCs? (Like the ones from the bus stop, and the other employees in the marketing firm) Will some of them have quests? Same with the dating scenes ones with Beth, Stephanie, and Jamie. Will their relationships be expanded upon and have quests in them as well?

I’m mostly curious about the scale of the story your planning. I love the story so far!

i finally got her set of images for that stage, though i wish we could somehow had the other option to once we gave her the voucher to actually scold her before giving her the ‘Hyper potion’

Also i want to give more suggestions since i would like to see more content from this game and i do think this story could go into a immobility stage as a form of epilogue and which girl you chose out of the three thus far or perhaps all four of you moved in together to help and fatten each other up:

  • Perhaps have one of the MCs co-workers personally know and help Mukbang herself which would lead to a series of events that would allow you to meet her?

  • Have toxic co-worker get in big trouble with Jamie with her attitude (weight depending if you gave her a voucher or not) giving you the choice to either save her job or add to the list of complaints against her causing her to get fired on the spot!

  • Jamie has a Shadow curio item in her home which is why she is so busty, giving you the option of ‘misplacing it’ causing her to get fat herself

  • Beth directly asks the MC if she’s intentionally getting fat?

  • A few items to suggest for the MCs weird friend

  • Reinforced support railings to help her around the house
  • a Special harness to help with all the weight while walking around
  • special keyboard and mouse because her fingers would be starting to get too fat to use her normal sized ones
  • a drug or magic item to help with any health issues for being that big (Strengthens internal muscles to lessen the strain on her body, makes it easy for her body to deal with cholesterol & and improves blood flow as well as leg muscles)
  • a new voice command phone so she doesn’t need to dial any numbers
