I enjoyed this little demo. As always, your characters are a treat to look at and watch fatten up. Our main heroine, Kayla, is very very cute, and very lovely to talk to and hang out with. I was very disappointed by the B-story, it was admittedly mediocre. I would like to get to know Alicia more in a pathway different than that one. Overall, my biggest criticism is sometimes feeling like choices didn’t matter. Far too often, my dialogue choice would mean 1 minor dialogue addition, and then the same results the other options gave me. This was compounded by the rapid pacing and frequent timeslips that I HOPE are mostly due to it being a demo version. But, I genuinely enjoyed this experience and enjoyed this pleasant time.Thanks and good work.

That how I’ve always felt. I feel less like I’m playing a MC and rather that I’m watching someone else’s story and life play out for me. But I think that is more by design to keep the game linear in nature. There is the occasional change in scene, but it never felt greatly different within set route. I think as you indicated the fast passage of time really seems to ramp up the effect for me. I really appreciate being able to have my choices fell like they matter within the context of a VN or game. That’s probably why I feel more removed from the stories and less like it’s a game. However, they are well written stories and it’s nice to see the different scenarios.

Appreciate the feedback. It would have been easier to make the decisions FEEL like they make more of an impact by focusing on the same girl for every storyline each month (always doing a slightly different branching) but it would have been at the expense of different visuals. I felt it was better to have multiple girls with different looks gaining in a more linear path rather than 1 girl in multiple branching paths because the idea of Kayla being 200 pounds in one branch would be basically the same look with different clothes in another branch at 200 pounds.

I know some people would prefer if I had all sorts of branches per storyline, but a lot of the storylines are already over 100 sprites. It would essentially have to be my fulltime job to expand that out at 5-7x the amount needed to keep the same quality of visuals with the addition of non-linear branching each month (and this 100% is not my fulltime job ha).

So I at least hope that the visuals and the set storylines are entertaining enough on their own. For those who support me each month, it’s very much appreciated. I love playing through these myself and even making the content each month (even more so now that I’ve commissioned Polarisdreamer to create the monthly stories). I absolutely would not enjoy making this game if I had to spend 50 hours a month only looking at Kayla ha.

I see the multi branch requests over and over again in reviews for visual novels, but I always felt like it’s a waste of dev time. Even games I’m really into I’m only going to replay so many times (and prefer certain branches), and probably end up missing half branches. Personally I enjoy more linear stories.

If you look at the big-budget non-porn games they don’t really have much more branching content than D.I.E.T. (usually similar dialog splits/loops, and sometimes two separate missions/dungeons that loop back to the main storyline) and they have hundreds of full time professionals working full time for multiple years!

I think it’s less important to have a bunch of branching story lines and more important for it to feel like your choices have consequences. I don’t need a bunch of different story paths in a game, but I do like to feel like if I’m given a choice in dialogue or actions that that choice actually impacts the world.

I really enjoy these stories, but I do understand how someone could think it is basically just choosing a story and then you are reading a weight gain story with pictures.

That’s perfectly fair. I’m looking to try and make some of the choices feel more impactful by taking you on side stories momentarily (such as choosing not to go to a party and then choosing to go to a party) which yield momentarily different results for the day but ultimately progresses the story the same.

FYI - D.I.E.T. Version 0.6.0 is out now :slight_smile:

Wow, just played the new version. This game gets better and better, every time the newest chapter is my favorite! Loved the cameos from previous characters as well.

Found a few minor typos (one is wine down → wind down). Have to make notes for others next time I play and put them here.

Thank you for the kind words! And please let me know if you find any other typos!

For everyone else, I promise immunogobling isn’t a paid actor :sweat_smile:

here are the rest of the typos I found:

game pauses during the word “Making” in the scene before you meet Hannah. (?maybe just my pc is doing this?)
office scene “… that way you’ll learn a lessen (->lesson) about behaving…”
soccer practice “…after a few laps (->of) your jog Hannah…”
“…kind of physical condition to imprss (->impress) right…”
“…if I don’t preform (->perform) well it…”
pastry shop “You never no (->know). She seemed…”
apartment “I just love food to (->too) much to go back…”
pre-season tryouts “…eventually during an (->a) scrimmage game…”
final office scene “…for her to upgrade the wadrobe (-> her wardrobe) again…”
“…tactics certainly seem to appear (-> appeal) to Hannah…”
“Hannah obidiently (->obediently) does as…”
“…love of disk gold (->golf) and mini golf…”

Thank you for this! The long pause at the beginning is a glitch that occurs because I basically made Hannah’s stoyline all 1 giant scene rather than splitting each stage up into its own scene on the backend. In essence, when y9u select Hannah’s path, it loads her entire story and all sprites + backgrounds. I was able to get away with this in some of my older versions because there wasn’t as much content to be loaded with some of the former girls. But this one was apparently too much for one scene to load everything smoothly. If I try to go back and change it now, I would have to recode all choices and jump commands which is just a lot of work to save a few seconds of loading. But it’s a good lesson learned.

Lovely stuff, it’s great to see the other girls popping up as they still end up gaining even without your influence in these latest chapters. I also had the pause bug just before meeting Hannah and one pause during the choice between BJ or table sex in the office when Hannah’s a bit chubby but overall a good chapter and is the goth girl that’s coming in the next update Nicole?

The pause bug at the table is likely from a glitch I ended up correcting with 0.6.1 (it was trying to remove Kayla from the scene but Kayla isn’t present so it didn’t know what to do it the command).

And your spot on with your guess for who is taking center stage next month :wink:

Oh boy, next month is going to be an interesting one then, wonder if it will lean in on the whole feeder Nicole theme in Hannah’s chapter

The next month’s story is also written by Polarisdreamer and so far I can tell you this one will give you two rather interesting options early up front :wink:

This was fun! I think my favorite thing about playing through each of these different stories is that the different characters all feel very different. Not only are they at different stages of life, but they all have different personalities and interests that shines through in the dialogue. I also appreciate that the different choices felt a little more meaningful here, even if the general arc of the story is the same until the end.

One thing I’ve noticed is that the player character does seem to change slightly every now and then depending on the route (if remember right) so I do wonder if we could get a female protag (since they aren’t ever shown as a physical model, just the text descriptions)

I initially started off the project trying to make the protagonist genderless (no he or she) but it became a bit of a struggle at one point with s9me of the stories being written. And youre right, the player character is a bit different story to story (works as a professor vs works as a business manager). I’ll definitely consider the player character being a female though at some point in the future.

Yeah, it was during the latest chapter where they’re a professor that I went “Hold on, I don’t remember them being one in the other paths”. But glad I wasn’t going crazy there
