Dream Diver - An Adventure In The Mind Of A Troubled Woman (0.2 Out!)

0.1 is finally out. I sort of dragged my feet getting it out cause OCD’s mean, but I decided to pull the trigger tonight and publish it. I hope everyone enjoys it. The battle system hasn’t been implemented yet but I didn’t wanna spread myself too much.

If you want to help support the game’s development, feel free to support me on Patreon! It’s completely optional and provides no additional benefits, but every little bit does help because I do wanna try making this my full time job one day.

This is extraordinarily impressive, I’ve played a few 3D RPGMaker games before but they’ve never been this extensive. Even for the limited amount of content currently, the amount of cutscenes and camera work is ridiculous, and I loved the moving walls as I was walking. Definitely hooked on the setting and premise too, eagerly awaiting more!

Quick bug find, I did manage to softlock myself after the content ended. Went to the kitchen then couldn’t walk out as Sasha claimed she “couldn’t be scared” then walked back into the kitchen. Maybe Garfield just inspires bravery in her idk.

Oh yeah that’s something I had to work out but I haven’t had the energy to. When I get around to updating the game it’s on the list.

Anyway I appreciate the kind words. I spent a lot of time on this and I’m glad people enjoy it. Hopefully next time I can actually have some weight gain stuff.

What are you rendering these uh anime style sprites in? blender? Koikatsu party? other?

Koikatsu. I’ve been using it for a bit.

The art in this is seriously good! A wonderful experience. I also got softlocked after talking to Garfield. Can’t wait for more!

Thank you. ^^ I had been meaning to fix that bug but I fell into a productivity pit shortly after releasing this. When I update Dream Diver, I’ll make sure it’s fixed.

This game feels familiar for some reason

It’s been a very very long time, but I updated both my other games and now this one’s next in the rotation. I’m going to try making future game updates a lot smaller so I get stuff done more often. The plan for the next update is mostly gonna be adding more flavor text, fleshing out pixel art, fixing the controls, and adding some more to the library. I might add a simplified battle system if I feel like I have the energy for it. It’ll probably be a few days before I really start working on it, but I really wanted to work on this again.

Alright gamers, we’re officially back in business. I didn’t actually plan on working on the update so soon, but I wanted to “fix just one thing”, and I ended up playing through the whole game again and working on stuff. This is what I’ve done so far:

  • Konbini bug is still there, but there is a tile near the door that you can go onto that makes it so you can restart the conversation with Garfield and leave in the meantime.
  • I split the first library room into 2 maps, with the first map specifically being a save area. It runs WAY better now.
  • I added some more interactables, a few pictured above lol.

One of the good things about this update is it’s mostly a bunch of things that could take me a couple minutes to an hour to do. This is what I’ve got planned over the next week:

  • Finish the pixel sprites for Sasha & Velma
  • Adding more things to interact with
  • Finishing some textures
  • Drafting out the next library area
  • Possibly starting on it, at the very least beginning the first room for it
  • Flesh out the story outline

I’m giving myself a lot of small tasks to do so I can build myself up to working on stuff. I’m going to shoot for getting this update out in 2 weeks, but I’m going to give myself a month at the latest. I’m really excited to step into this again.

Fun(?) fact: the shape is an Archimedean solid called a rhombicuboctahedron, or cantellated cube. It has 26 fantastic faces, 48 awesome edges, and 26 glorious vertices! It has a Wikipedia article and some toys and buildings have been made in its shape. As we can see, it also spins very nicely.

I had no idea this shape had a name, that’s fun.

This is how it’s currently going.

I decided to start doing a super basic rpg maker project to draft out what the areas are going to be and the rough storyline. I also am almost done with a fishing minigame, because of course you need one.

when you’re telling yourself you don’t need a Snickers

So the new area’s gonna introduce a fishing minigame, and I thought it’d be fun to have a catgirl to feed fish to and you can also get money from doing so. I was trying to figure out which catgirl I wanted to do, then I remembered Haruko from FLCL is catlike. I’m working on the pixel art for her currently, and might fix up the model a little.

Speaking of which, I started work on 2 Japanese style buildings, which I’m going to make a fishing shop (left) and ramen shop (right). The first area after the intro room and the woods will be a little Japanese riverside / lakeside town. The models are mostly done but I am gonna texture them. I also thought it would be fun if when you go into the buildings it does a fixed camera from above because the area inside will be pretty tight. In future updates I will also add more things, like more models and NPCs and stuff.

I also wanted to make a dock for fishing, which was pretty simple. I ended up making a larger version to put in the little town. Things are happening.

Gameplay loop for the fishing game is done, as well as the first draft of the front facing Haruko sprite.

I feel like actually drafting out anatomy and stuff first before doing the sprite both took less time and turned out better.
