“Eat Your Chains,” a project for the Heavy Weight Jam (2026)
My first ever submission to a game jam, “Eat Your Chains” is now live! In it, you play as Gaelhkiy as he tries to deliver a present to his best friend. However, he needs to access the realm of Infinite Mirror to deliver his present to her, and will need to eat both the sun and the moon to reach her. Will you help him out?
Due to the warm feedback that I’ve gotten about “Eat Your Chains,” I’ve secretly been expanding the Game Jam version into the fully intended version. I was going to wait for voting on the Jam to finish and see what the judges voted on (I’m expecting ~maybe~ top 5, if I’m lucky), but I’ve decided to just share what I’ve got. I’m also going to add more enemies, make battles more complex, reduce the encounter rate, and work on improving visual legibility in some of the areas that I knew were problem areas. Please, enjoy what I have on offer so far!
Honestly? A bit barebones. The battle music was a bit annoying to listen to after several encounters. And while I understand that you had to get this game out before the deadline of the game jam, I did feel like it was a bit too short and I wanted to see more.
Also I don’t really know what effect fatness has on you other than making you take less damage. And I wish the protagonist could have gotten fatter.
But all in all, not bad. Straightforward combat, simple but clever puzzles. On a scale of satisfactory to unsatisfactory (1 is unsatisfactory, 5 is satisfactory) I’d rate it potentially improvable (3).
i loved this game! its barebones but one of my faves from the contest. who made the music? that was my fave part! id love if the ost was added to youtube or something. also yeah i wish you could get fatter and fat had more effects, like dialogue or portrait changes or seeing art
Thanks! Since a lot of people have expressed that they want more in the game, I intend to replace the soundtrack with an original score when I get the money to commission a musician, so the battle music should hopefully be better.
Just played through this, and I have to agree: It’s a bit barebones and I wish I could make Gaelhkiy a bit bigger (or, barring that, a bit more granularity) but I would absolutely love to see more of this. It’s got a lot of potential both as its intended length and possibly even a bigger project.
Also, I do rather like the aesthetic of the overworld quite a bit, but Gaelhkiy does blend in with some town and path background colors.
