THE PAST

Hey there! Maybe this thread is not the place for this, but I was wondering if one or two of you are interested in beta testing my upcoming game? (:
Nothing too involved, just me sending you an unfinished copy of it for you to play. You’d just have to report to me if you find some odd stuff, that way I can fix that before the actual release.
Just send a friend request, my discord username is darkeyev2.
I think I got rid of most game breaking bugs, but there are a lot of moving parts in this one! I’m bound to be missing something on just my own.
How does one get the alternate endings?
Hey!
I’ve got yet another update for you. This time around, I’ve decided to try adding drawings to the game. And you know, one thing lead to another… now all endings related to the Seeker Of Glutton update have now been completely reworked. Now they are not just walls of text, but actual interactive environments! There’s also a complete guide, too! And a brand-new ending!! As usual, you can find everything on the itchio page.
…should I have spent all this time working on the next chapter of Spirit of Hunger? Yeah, probably… oh well ¯|(ツ)/¯
Now, the new ending? Everyone can find it and play it for free on the itchio page, no issue there. The drawings are instead only available in the zip file and if you donate 5 bucks (if you have already done so in the past, great! You should be able to access it), and the guide if you donate 10 bucks (though that’s only a bonus for the people who really want to donate, I do plan on eventually, say 1 or 2 months down the line, put it here for free).
Now, we’re not talking about AI images: I’ve actually drawn them myself. I’ve drawn before, but never been practiced much anatomy, and this is the first time I’ve ever tried drawing FA art, so, you know, keep that in mind.
I personally think the drawings came out decently enough! I’m only pointing all of this out because, once again, the illustrations are only in the version that goes for 5 bucks, and want you to have a good idea of what to expect beforehand - it’s only fair.
You will probably notice that now, in most of the cutscenes, the text fades in - I wanted to give certain passages a more cinematic feel… I don’t know if that was a good idea, to be honest. I’ve made them (hopefully) slow enough for slow readers, but that also means that I myself usually just click through them - something that you can also do, if you end up not liking them.
Actually, I’m now noticing that I can do polls here.
There you go! Let’s see what you guys think.
Nu huh! Not giving you any hints on this one. NONE.
To be fair, it’s actually pretty easy to get, it’s not exceedingly well-hidden or anything like that. But! That brings us to…
Well then, would you look at that: seems like ya boy Dark finally decided to make a proper guide for the game. It just took, what, 2 years from the initial release? Well, it’s here now.
I tried my best to be as comprehensive as possible, while also formatting it in a way that lets you use it as hints, with spoiler text like you see all the time on this forum: that way, it still doesn’t spoil the game in its entirety, you can choose how much text to reveal. It’s formatted like a text-adventure! And you can use it side by side with the actual game. Hopefully it should help you out.
If you find the price to be too high, or maybe simply don’t have the means to afford it, send a dm on my discord! I’m darkeyev2. I can send you a copy, I’m going to eventually put it out there for free either way.
And that’s it! I made pretty big sweeping changes to the way things were laid out, and that means there are probably a lot of new bugs around. Let me know if you find any.
I want to thank all you who, in these two years, have played and enjoyed this little game I made - especially the ones who donated. Hopefully you end like this smaller update too, I sure wish that to be the case. Alright, bye (:
Guys! As it turns out I locked you out of most of the endings in the game.
Well, not intentionally… and it’s now fixed (:
You’re telling me that you guys haven’t been able to do any of the attic related endings?? The part I put the most amount of changes in this update??? I AM FUMING why did no one say anything you FOOLS
Welp, it should be fixed now, just restart the game and it should work as intended.
Always let me know about any bugs you find! They are never an intended feature, and I’ll likely fix them right away… it hadn’t happened this time, but still! I try to.
Yeah, the attic was a glitching mess. The 1st page didn’t have a return word so once you read it you were stuck, I’m sure the 3rd page was just information about demons but no way of getting involved with one, the marking on the floor crashed the game, then I needed a sweet dessert and she ate the cake in the fridge! I thought ‘OMG not the cake in the basement!’. Good to know some of this has been sorted out.
Started reading the Tome of Gluttoney. Page 88 blocked me from continuing. Looks like the link was formatted incorrectly or something?
There still seem to be some things having falen through.
You near the blackboard, and find yourself still thinking of any way of making it fit in as part of your house’s interior decor. The bedroom? No, you don’t want the bed getting covered in chalk. The guest room? Converting it into a home office is still on the table, though what you would do with one is a whole other matter entirely. The kitchen would probably be the best place for it, if it wasn’t just so damn large. Couldn’t you steal a smaller one?
[lesserdemonchalk == false]
Well, steal is a loaded term: the middle school you temporarily worked for had kept in storage for literal years! Guess you ended up doing the same. You should probably keep the chalk inside, it’s at risk of getting wet here.
[lesserdemonchalk == true]
And reading page 88 softlocks the game because no link to continue exist.
INSTRUCTIONS
The writer reiterates 3 times over how easy it is to cast this spell due to the fact that it is just a rework of a basic “item attraction” spell.
All you need is:
- A small strand of hair from a loved one, be it from a person or pet
- A Breadbasket
Once those are in possession, you would just need to get to the nearest Circle of Glutton and say this incantation aloud:
“Whispered thread, beckon bread, bring feast near, void is fed.”
Quite beginner friendly if you ask me…

Ah, I see! Thank you for warning me about these, luckily these were pretty minor mistakes, I took care of them. Won’t need to restart either, no variable has been changed.
Yep, should be fixed now!
Oh shoot I did not think about the cake in the fridge!! You do currently need to use another sweet dessert (not the one it the basement either lmao), but I should have the chocolate cake be available to the player as an option.Too scared to touch anything at the moment as I might introduce another couple thousands bugs, but I will eventually change it.
I also want to take a moment to thank you all for being so patient with me, despite my lack of coding skills and beta testing (:
Hi, are you sure it’s fixed? I seem to encounter same softlock on page 88.
Yep, apparently I fixed it too fast? I’ve noticed that sometimes if you modify a small amount of text (in this case, just a single character), the Twine editor will not realize you’ve done so: you have to exit the passage or just wait a little.
Hopefully it should work now!
Hey there! Alright then, as promised the guide is now free to download!
I’ve placed it as a demo, to hopefully not mess anything up on the page. If you’ve paid for the game, or even donated that extra 5 bucks to get the guide earlier, you should be good - the downloads for those should not have changed.
Also! Not related to this project, but the demo for the second chapter of Spirit of Hunger is now out, you can play it (:
Is only the version you pay for/download the full version with all of the endings? Is the browser version just the demo?
Nope! The browser version is not a demo: it’s the full version, just missing the drawings for the endings. If you pay, you also get those as a bonus (:
It seems no matter how hard I look I cannot seem to get the Groaning Whale ending, I always cap out around 11500 ish calories. I got the Two snacks in the Bedroom, the Fridge, the Cheesecake, the Twix Bar from the couch, the Pizza and Bowl in the living room and the pantry, and ordered from the Noodle place. Am I missing something?
Mmm right, looking back I could’ve probably made some better instructions for that ending.
Tell you what, try ordering from Bloaters instead - though do it before eating too much, or you’ll accidentally head into that other ending. The restaurants have different caloric values, you see. That one should hopefully give you enough of a boost!
Hey there! It’s been a while since I worked on this game.
Alas, I have brought you a new update: the driving update! You can finally find the keys to Emily’s car, and through that access a couple new endings. Four, to be exact, and with drawings. I talk about it further down - don’t worry, no spoilers! Just a couple notes and helpful hints.
Still, I do need to warn you that, for now, the update is only on my patreon.
Don’t worry, I do plan on eventually releasing it on the itchio. Maybe in one or two months? The only reason I’m doing this is the fact that my patrons were the ones who voted for me to get back to this project, so it’s only fair they get to enjoy the fruits of my labor first.
There’s a lot of good stuff there besides my games, too! I’ve been busy. Feel free to look around.
Let me first start us off with a fun fact. Did you know that the text and logic for entering the Emily’s car has been in the game since the very first release? It’s true. It even had links to other objects inside of it.
So then, you might ask, why were you not able to enter it? Ah, well… I forgot to add a way to get her keys! In fact, I was so convinced I had done it already years back, that I didn’t realize the endings I have spent a week working on were very much inaccessible. I had to scramble this morning to fix that.
Just a heads up: you’ll have to get through the pantry first before you get the option to find them! But they are close by.
Ok, so, I want to show you a little under the hood. It’ll make more sense that way.
This, my dear, is a very simple block of logic the game employs. It lets it know when Emily has gone through enough calories to warrant some descriptions, or flavor texts, to appear or disappear. Interactions as well! There are, for example, endings you can only access when you are at a certain stage instead of another.
As you can see, OVERSTUFFED requires an insane amount of eating around the house to get. And… I also set it this way in a very early copy of the game.
…
…
…
…
I have updated the logic.
Look.
I know what you’re thinking.
But I have tested it out, I swear: the ENGORGED state can be reached.
You have to be very, very careful, very thorough, and do things in a very precise way. But it is possible. I personally have found two paths for it - in one, you’ll very much know you got there! In the second, you will need to check the couch in the living room to make sure.
No, it’s still there if you want it! You can turn it back on in the about section if you feel like it, It’s disabled by default (kind of) (you actually can’t turn it off in the game engine I’m using, so I wrote a script to force it to a zero delay. It works fine on my end, hopefully it doesn’t break things).
Maybe I’m just too fast of a reader, but like… oh my god, I did not remember the text being this unbearably slow to appear. Couldn’t stand it anymore.
Alright, that’s all! If you find any bugs or grammatical errors be sure to let me know. I did playtest, there shouldn’t be any game breaking bugs, but you never know.
Ok, that’s it. Bye (:
