Exponential Growth

Been toying with this idea in roleplays but I think it’s actually better suited for a game. I am an experienced programmer, but not an artist. I want the game to be free forever and open source so folks can contribute. Likely text-based for ease, but plenty of room for artwork contributions if I can figure out non-ai image generation from existing assets…likely layering of SVGs will need to be involved.

First half of the game will be first-person, and is essentially an extended character builder. The FEEDEE will roam a procedurally-generated world, trying to satisfy their NEEDS. In the course of this they will have dialog choices and actions that will make up their character’s personality. They ultimately will need to cultivate relationships with one or more FEEDERS before they become immobile.

Becoming immobile without a suitable FEEDER is a bad end. There will be FEEDERS unwilling to participate in continuing to feed someone so large. FEEDERS do not have to be romantic partners. Family members may be options, a la Gaining Perspective. Machines and/or robots will also be an option.

The combination of FEEDEE’s personality as derived from the player’s choices and the FEEDERS participating in their care determine the trajectory of the 2nd half of the game where the player takes control of the FEEDERS alongside the FEEDEE themselves.

I’m thinking everything from trying to become an omnivorous blob monster to trying to research a cure and return FEEDEE to a normal size, or at least stop her exponential growth.

Going to stop here and ask for thoughts, opinions, and concerns. What do you folks think? Is there anything out there along these lines?

Yeah I need to project manage a bit, scale back on the features for an alpha release and get feedback fast. Have a day off coming up on Friday where I can work on this and hopefully release something.
