Fat Princess Spiritual Successor (Fat Goblins Thread)

EDIT: There is a permanent offline demo up on the steam page that’s open to everyone

So I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned this before but I was always disappointed with how the original Fat Princess was treated despite of the fact it was Sony’s first real hit on the old PS3 marketplace as well as a totally unique game that never had a true follow up.

Between the extremely mediocre sequel that turned the game into a okay at best ARPG, to the original FP devs making their own spiritual successor with Squids From Space that lacked the charm of Fat Princess and was abandoned for 5 years now, to the original 2009 game being effectively abandon ware due to the death of the PS3 store front,I felt like the series never had a true chance to shine post PS3.

Well someone has apparently read my mind and now there is a Fat Princess spiritual successor in the form of Fat Goblins, which is currently in development.

And you know what? Its pretty damn good, if a little bit rough right now.

The gameplay is mostly the same as FP, capture the flag with resource gathering and fattening up your princess to make it harder for the enemy to carry her off while trying to grab your own. There are some new additions though, such as every class now having a ultimate that charges up as you score points, classes having new abilities or reworks, like workers now being able to build ladders where ever they want and upgraded workers being able to build catapults to the upgraded ranger now using a musket and dynamite barrels instead of the blunderbuss. There’s also some smaller balance changes, as well as some map specific gimmicks. Only downside is that there only capture the princess, so no FP scoccer, gladiate, domination and death match. But overall its still the hat based CTF multiplayer chaos that made the '09 game so good.

The game has all of the spirit of the original fat princess with the goofy voice lines, the over the top blood, and even some new additions like the “goblin-ized” voice chat that changes your voice to sound like the goblins if you use in game voice chat, leading to stuff like the whole server praising goblin jesus in the middle of a big ass siege for the match point. Good stuff all around, although due to the fact that not many people know about the game, matches are mostly filled with bots and they they currently put the A in AI because they are not great right now.

On the weight gain side of things there’s just the two princesses, and they aren’t quite as good as Princess Plump and Muffin top from FP and there’s probably not going to be any weight gain for the playable goblins just like FP.

Here’s the link to the steam page if you’re interested in the game or joining the test build that’s running right now and will start up again during the next fest in October:

Here’s the weight gain of the princess:

Normally she’s supposed to be smaller for her first weight stage but I grabbed that screen shot when she was just about to hit the second stage.
If you keep feeding her after she reaches the third stage her character model gets very slightly bigger per hunk of meat, no additional weight gain unfortunately.

Hope you all give it a try! It’s pretty fun.

I don’t know… to me it looks a bit like “we got fat princess at home”. hopefully my intuition is wrong and I will like it when I actually give it a try later

It looks like they’re close to their kickstarter goal for offline self hosted servers

I had more fun with it than I expected but I’m still skeptical. some obvious issues (like foreground objects blocking the camera and bots not understanding they have to collect the resources they chop down) gets me a bit worried

someone seem to have had fun making all the file extensions fat related

I know for a fact the bots not picking up stuff properly is a bug that got introduced in this version, the previous play test, they properly picked up resources and the princess, so that should be fixed come next fest (I hope). As for the foreground objects issue yeah that definitely needs to be addressed, I know there’s a feature where you can see any player’s highlights through terrain but a feature where foreground objects turn invisible would be much better.

I also have my own issues, like resources flying all over the place when harvested, including down into bottomless pits, some maps (the larger ones ie the one with the whale and the underground cavern with the dragon that was in the last playtest) having spots people never seem to go to due to the lack of useful features verses just going straight into the enemy base, and how outposts, resources, and meat/cake stop being useful once everything is upgraded and the princess is fully fattened.(The original game had these same problems but its still here and there isn’t a solution to these issues)

That being said I do still have a lot of confidence in this game, compared to the first build back in late 2024 the game feels much better to play and way more fun without the horrific class and team imbalance of that first build, and the dev is both active in interacting with the community and feedback so I will continue to back the game and see how it progresses. Glad you gave the game a chance and enjoyed it, it was fun playing some rounds with/against you (I was Get Psyched)

Also nice find with the fat themed extensions.

if it is true that you are from Hell, Michigan then the netcode must be pretty good since I’m in Eüröpë and I didn’t noticed any form of network issues

I’m from New Jersey actually, the Hell, Michigan thing was a hold over when this account was just for lurking and I thought that was funnier than just writing down Hell, same with the account name instead of just a string of numbers or letters.
The only net work issue I saw was from you, ironically. You were briefly teleporting around instead of walking but only once and for about a second. Either way across 3 different play tests, that being the only net code hiccup I’ve seen is pretty gud.

The new play test for Fat Goblins is currently active!

Its running from today to the 21st

The bots failing to pick up items was fixed and there’s now a new map in rotation.

New update for the game, there’s a permanent offline demo for the game out now.

The only map available is the black forest one, and its bots only due to it being offline only.

Bots seem to be a bit better than the last play test.

Happy New Year everyone.
