Gain of Life: A weight gain life simulator [v0.50.0]

And in the case of my own country, the Great White North, we’re technically a metric country.

Technically.

In truth, almost everyone uses Imperial measurements daily. Pounds, miles, feet/inches, acres, these are by far the norm. Making it a little complicated is our close proximity to the US. The end result of that is we wind up using both American and British Imperial, and the metric system on top of that.

It’s kind of a mess.

Still, I’d say the majority of us can work pretty well with metric, though I’ll admit I struggle mightily with cm for height. I just can’t picture it, and inevitably have to convert that one.

I will add an option so you can decide at the beginning if either the metric or the imperial system should be displayed.

This is how to change between the measurement systems in the new version, which will release at the beginning of October for all Silver and Gold Patrons:

Escape > Preferences > Measure System:

The game still calculates everything in kilograms in the background and just uses the formula [kg] * 2,2046 = [lbs] for displaying the Imperial System.

Most use metric, lbs only persists in ex-Empire countries (I’m still surprised that the USA, having rejected the imperialist dogs, clings to the “Imperial” units), and with the exception of the three holdout countries, only really for “personal use” if you like. Even here in .uk if the doctors measure/weigh you, it will be metric.

Since the English language persists where English units were once used it’s kind of self-selecting if you ask, in English, what units are preferred.

And, yes, as @LeftHandManGary points out there are differences between American and British Imperial units - most noticeably with fluid volumes. The UK pint is about 20% bigger and, prior to the popularity of micro-breweries in the USA, often significantly stronger - to the extent it would catch people out.

This is a good choice! It’s a presentation issue at the end of the day.

As a complete and totally off-topic tangent, one thing I always found interesting was that the Americans are technically using the old British system. In the 1820’s, the English redid their units, but of course the Americans had already left by that point, so they kept using the old measurements.

I suspect the reason they didn’t change the units was simply convenience, though given the early Americans rejection of everything British (driving on the right side of the road or favouring coffee over tea, for example), it is a little surprising they didn’t try to redo their measurements to something different.

Things LeftHandManGary just learned while typing this comment: apparently a quart is actually a unit of measurement. I had thought it merely meant a jug or bottle of liquid, like “quart of milk = bottle of milk.” The last 25+ years of my life have been a lie.

Well that and tooling would have had to change.
Once industry picks a standard it’s very hard to get them to change it.

I can also confirm this, since the imperial system has been used for so long already it would be a complete overhaul to everything in the US to switch to the metric system. So they just teach conversions in school.

Not nearly as much as you might think. There’s nothing stopping you putting a metric cutter in an imperial mill or the other way round. A single point tool isn’t intrinsically metric or imperial. The right change gears will cut metric threads on an Imperial machine - or just swap out lead screws (remember American Customary units are defined in metric, not barleycorns, or king’s thumbs, or Roman Legionaries). And the CAD, DRO’s are almost always metric under the covers - with a button that just changes the display - much like WG Life Simulator will be!

We are talking about the 19th century here. LeftHandManGary was talking about why they didn’t switch in the 1820s and that’s what I was speaking of. In the early 19th century tooling was often custom made, this was in the age before mass manufacturing and industrialization. So it makes sense that the US just carried on using with what they already had.
And regardless we still rebuild engines and measure clearances inside our machine shops in thousandths of an inch to this day and honestly it is not likely to change anytime soon. Us yanks are just set in our ways I suppose.
Maybe instead of just lbs or kg we should have the addition of stone just to make sure we have all the bases covered.

You are speaking about the Mendenhall Order I believe, all it really did was standardize a conversion between the two standards.

Should the game include fantasy scenes, magic or monsters?

  • Magic
  • Monsters
  • Aliens
  • No Fantasy scenes

There would be a possibility to add something regarding Halloween. I would create a version, right after the October-version for halloween and post it on patreon on October 28th or something and then the November-version at the beginning of November.

You should add all three

This will be a great place for the Halloween thing. I have some villanious ideas…:jack_o_lantern:

Would you prefer playing a male or a female character in this game?

  • Male
  • Female

If you could play a male character, what should happen to weight gain? Should you be able to gain weight as well?

Won’t vote until I’ve played it and got an idea for the gameplay. However, typically I like having a male avatar that represents me and then go around influencing female weight gain. More choice is never going to be bad from a player perspective, but from a game development perspective, how long does an extra gender, male weight gain etc take to add? Then is that pay off worth it? If these factors are manageable, or don’t bother you then I only see potential upside.

As to the other possibility. It’s also fun to just straight up play a female and get her to gain weight too, so not like there’s bad options here. I think the pre version goes public soon, so I’ll have a better idea of how the game functions then.

I always prefer to have a female avatar in games as I can usually relate to them much better, though there are some titles with male protagonists that I can still really identify with and enjoyed the perspective of such as Tidus, 9S or Corvo. That said, if it’s an adult game then a female perspective is practically necessary for me to enjoy it as I just cannot attain sexual gratification from situations involving men. I understand that many fetish communities are very straight- and male-dominated so I kinda just have to take what I can get most of the time (usually by ignoring some story elements or changing pronouns/descriptions in my head as I play) but if given the choice I’ll ignore male characters in these kinds of games 100% of the time.

I like the potentially bold decision to add more fantastical fantasy elements to the game. Makes a fun counterpoint to the realistic setting of tiggertoo’s The Weighting Game.

I think the same, but the point is that if you are a female character it would make sense to meet male people (and maybe build relationships with them). So I was wondering:

Is it okay if a male person encourages you to gain weight/makes you gain weight? Is it okay to be able to have a relationship with a man?

Seems like a bit of a strange question. I mean, personally I wouldn’t welcome a male feeder but I’m also a lesbian soooo xD As for the character in the game, is she written to be straight or are they more of a blank slate character that the player is meant to self-insert into?

But I mean, at the end of the day it’s your game, ya know? I’d just recommend coding and writing the story you want to tell first and foremost and not getting too caught up in community requests, especially during the early stages of development. If you want to see M/F relationships in your game then you should do that :0

I’d say that if you were going to have relationships, your best bet would be to have them be female/female, as the community seems to prefer that overall from what I’ve seen. If people are coming for female weight gain from the perspective of the gainer, they probably aren’t interested in men. Although like Zoe said do what you think fits the game best :+1:

I’ll admit, my own preference is for the PC to be a female gainer/feedee, with a male feeder. That said, @ZoeFoxx’s comment is spot on. Focus on making the story you want, not on fulfilling community requests. Otherwise, the end result will likely be rather shallow and disappointing. I’d rather have a complete story with fewer options, then a whole pile of options, and none of them go anywhere.
