Gain of Life: A weight gain life simulator [v0.50.0]

To me a feature like this just isn’t worth an expensive monthly subscription. Having a visual representation of your character is nice, but the main appeal of the game is the scenarios and writing. While your automatic engine seems interesting, I feel you’re overestimating its importance and how much value it would provide to the experience.

Respectfully, this is a terrible idea and is going to kill your project. Your game is nowhere near being in a state that justifies an $11.50/mo live service model, and an image generation engine isn’t going to change that.

Now, I don’t believe in pointing out problems without also suggesting solutions.

If the reason for this is actually that you want there to be greater customization, then you should consider alternatives. Doing remote 3D renders on the fly seems like an over-engineered solution. Many Renpy games have systems where character images are created from smaller pieces, and if that’s not enough, then it might be time to look at making the game 3D.

If what this is actually about is stopping piracy, which is what I suspect, then my recommendation is to let it go. This system you’ve devised isn’t going to stop it, and you’re only going to make things worse for yourself.

Regardless of what you end up doing, good luck.

I anticipate that you’re thinking something along the lines of “well, I already spent all this time and money making this happen.” Don’t chase bad money with good.

Millions of ADDITIONAL images and several terabytes in size just sounds very inefficient and wasteful implementation. Out of curiosity, I would like you to show us a technical demonstration about your image generator at work. It would be interesting to see what sort of results the mass generation produces in case of adding additional stuff.

I’d be interested to see some sort of demo of this too, if only to see how you’ve got round the issue of most Daz outfits looking crap on larger models.

It’s the beginning of the month again, which means that subscribing today will bring the biggest benefit.

Also, there will be an update in February again, which means that you’ll get access to it as soon as it releases.

So, I have a few questions about games in general. Naturally, I would like to reflect on the results of these polls and the roadmap for the Gain of Life.

Effectively, there are two types of story formats:

  1. Ren’Py-like: You’ll have dialog popups at the bottom of the screen. This is Gain of Life’s storytelling format.
  2. HTML-like: Like on a website, you’ll have text with dialog boxes stacked above each other.

Which story format do you like better?

  • Ren’Py-like
  • HTML-like
  • The format is not that important to me

Then, I was wondering about the platform. Do you prefer downloading and installing a game (such as Gain of Life) or playing it in a browser?

Which platform do you prefer?

  • Program-based
  • Browser-based
  • The engine is not that important to me

Kinky parts?

  • Should be kinky (in terms of non-fetish-related content)
  • Should not be kinky (in terms of non-fetish-related content)
  • Not that important whether it is kinky

Romantic parts?

  • A good story includes a love story.
  • A good story does not include a love story.
  • A good story may or may not include a love story.

What’s most crucial fetish-related content-wise?

(choose up to 3)

  • Weight struggles (e.g., fast breathing after stairs, turning sideways to walk through the door, …)
  • Too tight clothes (due to weight gain)
  • Slow weight gain (there should be a person growing bigger slowly throughout the game)
  • Realistic weight gain (people should gain weight over time, just like in real life)
  • Fast weight gain (there should be a person growing bigger fast/momentarily throughout the game)
  • Feeder (I want to be the person making others bigger)
  • Feedee (I want to be the person growing bigger)
  • Non-Feederism related (e.g., a person naturally gaining weight through e.g., stress eating)
  • Other (please explain in a comment)

Weight gain mechanics

So assume, you, as the player, are gaining weight. What would you enjoy most?

  • Weight gain should be a punishment
  • Weight gain should be a reward / the goal
  • Weight gain should be neutral
  • Weight gain can be both

New Version [v0.50.0] AND new free version

I have updated the links for the free version to v0.47.0.
Having teasered it in the previous verison, as expected this one contains the actual content of office v2, if you will:

  • The day of the characters will go according to the plan you choose.
  • Daniela will use any free time she has to snack
  • Samantha will only get snacks, if she passes by the drawer (which is when she starts a new task).
  • If two people are at the same location (e.g., the player, and Samantha), the characters might hand food items to each other. When Daniela is in the room, she will always be greedy, asking for food. However, if Daniela is not there, you can sneak Samantha some food.
  • You now get paid for office work v2, and time passes as usual
  • Samantha will slowly gain weight during v2, if she eats.

Not working on mac, do something please.

It might be because you did not disable gatekeeper on your mac.

v0.47.0 only runs on Intel-based Macs. In v0.48.0, GoL was updated to run on Apple Silicone Chips too. Thus, the latest version should work just fine.

If you are trying to run the latest version, what’s the error message you get from your Mac when trying to start the game?

i am running it on mac silicon. So, it shows the application cannot be opened. Isn’t there any other way around it?

I still suspect that gatekeeper is preventing it. Apple is strict about recognizing apps and won’t open them until you open up gatekeeper’s restrictions. They used to allow you to disable it in the settings privacy and security window but Apple changed it to reject anything it doesn’t recognized from the app store or identified developers. the only real way to do it is in the terminal window type:
spctl --status ;this determines gatekeeper’s status
sudo spctl --master-disable ;turns off gatekeeper

After disabling also the same error

If you’re playing the free version, I’m afraid there is not. Gain of Life does not support Apple Silicon in the free version yet. Once the free version is updated the next time, it will support Apple Silicon. You might want to try installing Parallels to emulate Windows, and see whether Parallels is able to run the Windows version of the game on your Mac. This isn’t an optimal solution, though.

If you are talking about the Patreon version, disabling the gatekeeper should have done the thing. If you are playing the Patreon version, and it isn’t working for you (which I doubt at this point), I can do some research what might be going wrong. The Patreon version runs seamlessly on my Apple Silicon M1 Mac.

The updated free version made me start up a new game. The game is really fun when you use the amount of control the life sim gameplay provides to really get into character (for example, starting the day with a healthy breakfast of fruit, but maybe having a donut won’t hurt…oops, you ate two!) However, there really needs to be more stuff to do in order for this to work over the course of a very long game. There are several places to go, but the variety is somewhat lacking when I’m going through someone’s day to day life. And the social life/narrative options are somewhat lacking as well. You’re playing a college student, but most days she just eats in, goes to work or the gym, gets home, posts on socials and goes to bed at 9. I should be going out, spending time with people! So, I thought I’d type up a list of various locales that could be added to provide more places to go, alone or with friends:

Movie theatre
A bar/pub/nightclub that is accessible at times other than Friday nights with Jessica
A sit-down restaurant
A bakery/coffee shop
A mall with various specialty stores, a food court…(you could even use this as a hub for other previously mentioned locations like the cinema or the restaurant)
A library
A public pool
A spa

I’m just throwing out ideas, but it could be whatever you want, really. The game just needs more variety in terms of activities. On a similar note, I’d still like way more character interactions and events. The various interactions with Jane and other events are always a highlight, but they’re very few and far between. The roleplay element of the game is very fun, but it feels like the game isn’t really going all the way to give the player opportunities to roleplay. It’d be fun to call up Jane whenever to come over, watch TV and eat junk. Or go shopping with Jane when the clothes start not to fit. (Incidentally, when clothes rip, it’d be interesting to have some additional text depending on where you are when it happens. Jane being surprised, Samantha mocking, being out in public and getting embarrassed…) Or maybe Samantha spots the player gorging on donuts at the office and makes some remark. The game has a solid premise and gameplay loop, it just needs life.

can I install a older version again?

That’s some good feedback, I appreciate it. Will try to accommodate to it over the next versions.

Yes.

By the way, it’s the beginning of the month, meaning you’ll get the biggest benefits by subscribing today.

Query; Are the food icons used for the Restaurant and the Gym AI generated?

I am poor student in the USA bro :sob: :sob:

Creating a convoluted system to render illustrations on an external server rather than simply allowing players to render images locally seems like a bad idea. If it’s to prevent piracy, then it will work, but it’s also going to prevent offline play, play with lower bandwidths, and in the future, playing when the servers go down (wether temporarily or permanently.)

If it’s for creating images on the fly, it’s more convenient for the vast majority to have that stuff done locally, in-engine.

And if it’s to force people to stay subscribed (I don’t presume that you are doing so but there’s still the possibility)… Trust me, turning a pay-once/free game into a subscription service historically doesn’t ever end well.

It just seems like a solution in search of a problem.

EDIT: Didn’t see the dates of the conversation. Sorry.
