I just discovered this free alternative to GameMaker Studio called the Godot Engine. Apparently, with it, you can make 2D and 3D games. Here’s the link for those interested: https://godotengine.org/

Its quite a nice engine, it has replaced both Unity and Unreal for me. Its got some downfalls but for the most part I am a big fan of the MIT license and like how it is structured compared to other engines.
From my limited experience, it’s a solid piece of software. Unfortunately, it’s not as straight forward as some of the more popular engines out there. Maybe in a year or two, it might be viable.
