Grain to gain remake(Twine based life simulation game)[ver 0.1.2a (2024/Nov/07)]

Hello.

I’d like to introduce what I’ve been doing on Twine for the past few weeks.

This game is a Unofficial remake of a game from five years ago. I was really looking forward to this game at the time. I remade it in my own way based on the maps and concepts he made.

A major feature of this game is that it is not a point-and-click system, but rather a system where you can walk around in a 2D world. Additionally, at this stage there are a number of interesting systems such as Buff, Inventory, Equipment and size.

However, the overall impression is that it feels unfinished. Mainly in terms of description. I really wanted some feedback so I’m posting this now. But please note about that.
For now, I’ll list some relatively important things.

Quick guide

You can select a link by pressing and “releasing” the key inside the [ ] before the link. For example, [W] means the W key.
Weight gain is mainly due to digestion.
The weight display will not update unless you measure yourself. (If you’ve played Abducted!, you’ll know the feeling.)
Furniture can be unlocked at the Furniture Depo.
A star immediately next to an item’s name in Inventory indicates that it has a different effect than normal. In addition, an x mark indicates that the item is broken. The number in ( ) indicates the number of stacks of a stackable item. If the number is orange, it means that it is fully stacked.
Warehouses can stack items infinitely. Currently, for some reason, the warehouse is attached to the bedroom.
Eating too much will make your stomach bigger, but it will also impair your health. Health can also decrease due to hunger or being unclean. In other conditions, it will slowly recover. When your health decreases, various negative effects will occur, but the increase and decrease is gradual, so be careful of your lifestyle.
Equipment will boost your stats, but anything that doesn’t fit will dilute the effect.
There are location instructions in the mail at the entrance to the house.

If there is anything about the game that is unclear, please feel free to let me know, as I am aware of the lack of guides for the game. Of course, ideas are welcome too!

Anyway! I hope to get some feedback. Well then.

P.S. If you reach the final weight stage, let me know how boring you enjoyed the process was.

Seems really promising. Some obvious things need to be done – mirror or descriptions, and maybe some events & a clear gameplay loop – but it has a lot of potential.

One thing that irked me a little was how much energy it took just to walk from place to place. Saw that there’s “walking XP” too, but maybe that should only apply to later gain stages.

Like I said though, great foundation, and looking forward to what’s to come

I really enjoy what you’ve done here and I am excited to see what else is done but one thing I ran into is an error when trying to enter the clothing store:

It happens every time I try to buy clothes from it and I’m not sure if it’s a bug or if it’s because the clothing store hasn’t been fully added yet.

This really has potential, I like the incorporation of health issues a lot. I’m a fan of darker elements.

One minor nitpick is that “outerior” isn’t a word, you’re probably looking for exterior.

The rate of weight loss when your stomach is empty is way too high. You can lose like a kilogram per hour just by working at Whammy’s with an empty stomach. Also you should make it so that if your character is hungry they will automatically eat at their job

Updated to 0.1.1a! First, I fixed the bug with Falstaffians. I also made some adjustments and added an explanation about the location. I added an item to the quick guide on Top, so please check that out too.

I’m going to talk about some of my honest thoughts about this game.

There is another purpose in developing this game. That is to test the system for PWGD and PWGG. Currently, there are buffs, equipment, items, custom UI, and key input. Once the system is complete, I want to import them into the main project, so I think I will be away from this game for a while. Also, because I was only thinking about the system, I didn’t think at all about what kind of situation to create on top of it. This is what you want now, the lack of wg detail.

So, I would like to ask for your help “this time” again. The big things are…:

Description of the player’s appearance when looking in the mirror, etc.

Random events. Someone sometimes gives you a weight comment on the road or in the park. In addition, various work events occur depending on the player’s stats. It is technically possible to do that right now, but I haven’t done it because I can’t think of any such events…

A skill tree that adds spice to the player’s lifestyle.

Oh yeah, about skills. I was thinking of making it a full skill system like Skyrim. Just acquiring Exp doesn’t change anything. You meet the conditions to acquire skills by accumulating Exp, and then you pay points to acquire them. And points are limited, and you can acquire them as the game progresses. This was what I had in mind. But I couldn’t think of a skill, and it seemed like it would take even more time to implement it, so I put it off and made it so that Exp directly affects the changes in stats. So I’m asking for help with this too.

Anyway, I’ve said everything I want to say now. I look forward to your continued support.

A small update has been made (0.1.2a). Fixed a small bug that prevented head equipment from being equipped correctly.

Skill trees or skill mastery?

It’s a skill tree. It’s mostly inspired by Skyrim. I’ll post a picture of the skill tree I scribbled down for now. I hope this gives you a sense of it.

With the current development progress, most of the skills listed here have already been implemented.

seeing as this is a remake of Grain to gain, which at least to me its main selling point compared to other weight gain games of its type, was its ascii art, will ascii art be a part of this remake?

From what they’ve shared with me, they’re planning to do the Gameboy style (for the character at least), and from what I’ve seen your in for a treat on the sizes :eyes:
