I am considering on making my own game (Test your appetite for glory)

(Pretty sure this is the right area to post)
Hello! This will be likely my first actually post on this site. I have been enjoying the content and games and felt pretty moved by some of the visual novels/ text games. However lately I have noticed a little dwindle in games that suited my interest. I am considering on making my own pseudo-text adventure game that will be inspired by some popular fighting game medias. If you are familiar with Megalobox season 1 you will understand where the initial idea came from.
The game I want to make will be ambitious to say the least.
Overall idea/ synopsis: The purpose of the game will to go over some themes I find to be quite enjoyable such as horror, combat, and weight gain as a whole. The player will be someone who is just recently kicked off the street by being disowned by their parents for not wanting to follow the family tradition. The player will need a way to make some cash to sustain themselves. You will turn to street fighting for cash where crowds will place bets on your success or failure. With this money you will need to eventually get a coach who will train you how to properly fight, after you get the coach you will now have a proper place to rest and begin to recover your injuries. Your objective to climb the ladder of street fights, sabotage other fighters/ coaches, learn about some secrets on why you were actually disowned by your family, etc.

Primary themes:

  • Player weight gain and or muscle gain
  • NPC weight gain
  • Unique combat system
  • Underlining mystery/ serious
  • Loose visual novel look

Main struggle

  • Time management while I am doing this in Uni
  • What game engine do I use? (Twine or GoDot)
  • Unfamiliar with most coding software
  • Drawing weight gain material that looks appealing.

I plan on learning how to use blender and learn proper anatomy for my art.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the project

I don’t understand if you plan to make 2d or 3d game? If it is going to be 2d game then why do you need to learn how to use Blender? If it is going to be 3d game then which person view it should be, because tag “hack and slash” don’t make it clear. Is it going to be top-down combat? From description it sound more like “beat them up” instead of “hack and slash”.

I plan on making it a 3d game with some 2d dialogue exchanges. I didn’t see the beat them up tag

Ok. Twine game engine used to create visual novels and don’t fit to 3d “Beat them up”. In Godot you can use 3d, but since there is not a lot of 3d games made in Godot I am not sure if it is a right choice especially since it don’t have build in blueprints system. I guess you need to use Unity or Unreal engine. I don’t know anything about Unity and I can only recommend Unreal Engine especially since you “Unfamiliar with most coding software”, because with Unreal you would be able to avoid coding by using Blueprints only.

I see. Well I will have to look to find some tutorials on how to properly design locations, characters, and combat system though Unreal. Thanks for bringing this to my attention
