I just recently had the idea for something I know I can’t make due to lack of skill but would love to see.
Mainly inspired by RaweTheWolf (especially their wg animation), I’d love to see a sort of sandbox wg game with that sort of look and quality, able to have this high def character grow and fill the bed or even the room, make them play with their belly, or just wiggle, it’d be great.
Also, while I like the concept, it would be difficult to make beyond just general modeling. Open world games are not a easy genre to make and that’s not even getting into the sub-genre.
Like, is it an RPG, a platformer, or a life sim? How to tie weight gain into the other mechanics in the game? Most importantly, how long should development be? Ambitious indie games with infinite development windows have a tendency to never get finished.
I more kinda thought of it as a sandbox type thing, or if it can’t be a game maybe a sort of “level design engine” just to make customizable scenarios, I didn’t put too much thought into it given I don’t exactly have the skill to actually make it
But that’s the thing, it would be easier to make it as a game over making a new engine.
It’s just a case of, “What’s the premise and specifics?” So, for fun, let’s think about it.
Chub, Chomp, Chill is probably the closest thing to your Idea right now. Conceptually, it’ focuses mainly on weight gain and feeding in an enclosed environment. I’d say an open world like Animal Crossing’s or the Persona games would be the best fit for this kind of game.
Either a contained randomly generated open world with notable landmarks or a straight forward pre-made map that’s made up of multiple location. Some of those games’ mechanics could also be used as a good inspiration.
Like in Persona 4, a restaurant that serves a special dish only on rainy days. You need high stats to finish it, but attempting it raises three stats. Could pull a Yakuza and make a game about eating all the dishes a town has to offer. Have secret menu items or even hidden restaurants throughout the town.
Similarly, we could look at AC and how the villagers AI schedule allows them to live dynamically. A NPC system that tracks the characters’ actions and allows them to gain/lose weight depending on their actions on that day. Like if a character goes fishing, they could lose weight from failing to anything or gain a lot of weight the next day after reeling in a big catch.
Well, that’s certainly a way more in depth and interesting concept than anything I could’ve thought of. Though, it’s be nice to have extreme sizes and more “eccentric” experiences available, a more customizable experience in ways of who gains and how, options like what is making them gain, how fast it happens how big they get, or where they are, even have them try to go about doing things relating to their environment while it happens.
Your idea seems like a very good possibility for a game and definitely easier to make, but with my idea I know it’s difficult but I would love to see something of that visual quality with decent customization as to what you get (I.e fit to fat, inflation, slow vs fast wg, even clothes and furniture interaction, as well as who, when, and where)
I could definitely see the open world thing being made, but I guess part of the point of my idea is that it would be difficult but (hopefully) worth making for the sake of general wg content.
It could have some sort of way to import your own characters places and even make mods as to what you can do, the sort of thing that could be constantly improving with community input so that more and more complex scenarios could be played out
