Love is the Way to My Heart - CLOSED

Alrighty, so, here’s the breakdown on Patreon:

Starting this Friday, then every other Friday after,
I hope some of you will join us on this endeavor, and can appreciate the stories and images while we gather the funds needed for the game.

From all of us at +Side Studios, thank you.

I’d like to address some things.

I have gotten some feedback on Patreon about certain individuals who are unhappy with +Side Studios’ progress, or lack thereof. I get it. It’s frustrating, and believe me, I am very frustrated over the whole ordeal. I did my best to get something out to the world, but without a loyal crew, I couldn’t do it, hence the hiatus until we reach the funds needed. I haven’t abandoned LITWTMH, but I cannot continue onward knowing that someone will eventually fall away again, leaving us more hurt. The only way to keep people on board is with money. I will have to have the game professionally made by people who want more than just a hobby.

My hope is that we will gather these funds by providing content (game-related and otherwise) on Patreon, keeping you guys engaged and with something to hold you over. Honestly, it all boils down to if we don’t get enough Patrons, the game doesn’t get made.

I never meant to upset anyone, and I understand how upsetting this must have been to hear, but know that I am still moving forward. Still fighting. I have hope that one day we will see LITWTMH come to fruition.

I don’t want this game to die. I have high hopes for it, and I know many, many others want to see it become a reality as well.

That said, I appreciate your enthusiasm! If you’d like to join the team, meet me on Discord. I am very active there and that is also where we (the team) work from.

Hey guys! Long time since I did a public announcement.

I figure that I should at least do one of these a month, though it won’t be tagging everyone from now on. I just want you all to know what’s going on is all.

So, as you all may know, things are progressing slowly with raising money for LITWTMH, but we are still pushing forward with creating stories and artwork for you to enjoy in the meantime.

I’d also like to announce there is a smaller game in the works to tide you all over for a while. Much smaller in scope, story, aesthetics, etc., but still a game produced by +Side Studios. There is no name for this game yet, and the mechanics are still being worked out, but hopefully within the next few months we get it produced and dropped onto Patreon.

We are working very hard to preserve +Side Studios, despite every obstacle thrown our way, and we continue to produce content. We hope you all appreciate our efforts and at least enjoy what is being made in the meantime of LITWTMH.

Take care for now!

is there a free version of this game?

Yes there is a demo from August 2021. There was supposed to be another beta/demo released on June 30th of this year but it was “indefinitely rescheduled” until further notice.

Thanks.

Yeah, people kept flaking on the project so I am now gathering a massive amount of funds to pay people to finish it, as it is apparent labors of love don’t exist. At least, not with most people.

We’ll see what comes of this. I am very reluctant to throw away LITWTMH, despite every setback.

I’ve done everything in my power to keep this project alive. I’ve sacrificed my mental and physical health for it. I’ve spent countless hours and days on it, but it just isn’t meant to be.

I no longer have passion for this project. I have no motivation, love, or desire. It has been drained from me, every setback taking a little bit more from me.

All iwver wanted was to bring something fresh to the WG world, but one man can only do so much, especially now that I am a father.

This wasn’t a fruitless endeavor: I have learned a lot, and I have made good friends along the way.

The Patreon money is going towards the artist, GentleGolem. The Patreon is shifting to writing and artistry.

I completely understand that some of you will be furious. I can’t help that. All I can do is what is right for me.

The server will be shutting down, so if any of you want to stay in contact, or if you’d like to be friends, DM me. I also own an up-and-coming server called The Creator’s Network. We got a fairly active crowd over there, so I hope to see some of you join! We are an open server, so look us up on Disboard.

I’m sorry it has come to a close, and I apologize that I could not deliver the game I was so passionate to bring to life. I’m leaving the game dev scene and Weightgaming.com soon.

I thank you all for your love and support, and if you want to fund our (Plus Side Studios) passions for art and writing, keep supporting us. We will be revamping our Patreon over the weekend.

Again, thank you all for the love and support. God bless.

You took on such a massive project and dedicated so much to it. It’s a shame that things haven’t worked out but I really respect the work you put in and I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say that we just wish you and the rest of the team the best.

Though LITWTMH has ceased, the characters will not. I do plan on writing a novel, or perhaps short story, for each one of them. Writing, especially for me, has become a newfound passion that I do exceptionally well at. Mixed with other authors, Plus Side Studios plans to continue existing as a mainly writing and artistry business/company. I’m considering the possibility of opening up commissions, but we will see. This is still a fresh change.

Thank you for your support and kind words.

It has been quite an adventure, but dev work is not for me. I’ll still be around other platforms, just not this one.

To the admins, sorry if I caused any ruckous. I only tried to be a part of this community.
To those kind enough to give me words of encouragement: thank you for being supportive, and thank you to those who befriended me. We’ll keep in touch.
To those I’ve upset: Sorry, guys. I don’t mean, nor did I ever mean, to upset anyone. I just tried to create something unique, big, and fresh. I failed, but through failure I can rise up and learn from it.

I’m available mostly on Discord. Feel free to join me and the plus side studios crew on our adventures in writing and art.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/PlusSideStudios
Personal Discord: modok123 (pfp is my face, you’ll know it’s me)
Other Server: The Creator’s Network

Take care. God bless.

I think I speak for a lot of people here that there is immense interest in seeing what you did manage to come up with thus far in development, even in its unfinished and incomplete state, whatever that may currently be. Even if it’s less than what you wanted to achieve, mistakes and problems are a learning experience that game developers can learn from and it’s a lot better to be getting that learning from someone else’s experience, than their own. That way, the time investment means something to someone, even though those hours have been burnt.

It probably doesn’t even have to be compiled to be worthwhile. If you don’t feel the desire to do release anything, c’est la vie, but I think the way the Forks team released their assets was helpful to folks looking at making games with ren’py; I certainly found the stuff under the hood interesting, even if it also showed just how convoluted it had become despite its limited length. Mistakes are only a waste when they’re hidden or forgotten.
Good luck with your future endeavours.

Everything is open to the public in the Discord which will be shutting down soon. Im not sure how to compile anything, so unfortunately you need to join the server to grab whatever you can before it shuts down.

Sad to hear but I wish you the best. I just posted the other day I’m starting to understand why so many people quit these projects prematurely now that I’m in the same position. Even being responsible for just yourself is a lot of work lol. Cheers.

This is my last message before leaving the dev scene and subsequently this site. This is more of an JSYK, FYI message. Tuesday the server that houses the game’s code is being deleted and im leaving this site, so grab whatever you want. Maybe someone better than me will bring LITWTMH to fruition. Who knows.

Take care everyone. It has definitely been an experience, one i wont forget.

And merry christmas.

I’ve followed this project over time and I think there are a few take aways.

  1. In terms of labors of love, a CEO can’t expect their workers to care about their company as much as they do. Likewise, a passionate dev can’t expect the same from their colleagues. Money can help keep that motivation, but creative churn is a real problem.
  2. This project was a huge undertaking. Multiple characters, multiple endings per character, multiple decision trees, etc. I think, if you were to do it all over, start smaller: 1 character, develop that one character out as far as you want to take it, and then move on to the next one. At one point, there was a cast of what, 15+ characters? Each with their own unique personality and quirks and story etc.? That’s tough.
  3. In the future, if you aren’t confident in your development skills (I’m one to talk, I have 0), perhaps utilizing a site like fiverr to find a developer who can at least get the core mechanics designed and implemented so that it’s just easier for you to fill in the gaps with art and story might have been a better way to go. The hiccup, it costs money.

All in all, I’m sorry to see this project leave, it was always a hope we’d see it completed. I’m in agreement with other sentiments that we’d still love to see a compiled version of what is complete, so that maybe another developer can pick up where you left off. I’m sorry to see you leave the community. I’d love, personally, to still have you here swapping ideas and what not. Don’t let a failed project stop you from still trying new things in the future. The failure hurts the ego, sure, but it has also provided you with a ton of insight on things to watch out for when developing a game, knowledge that a lot of new developers don’t have. Anyways, good luck with your new adventures, see you around.
