New RPG-Maker project; Margareth's Mischief

Hello there!

I’ve been working on this game for a little while, it’s my first time using RPG maker or anything like that and it’s been a really fun learning experience. Now without further ado, let’s get into it:

Margareth’s Mischief is an rpg maker fantasy game in development, however the second Version
(Version 0.2) is already out on my itch.io page. The game usues no AI or anything of the likes and I’m the only one working on it. It’s about a young Noblewoman called Margareth (duh) who’s easy lazy life is about to turn into an adventure that breaches the outer walls of her Family Mansion (And her dress).

The game is completely free and available for Windows and Mac/OS
Currently there’s about 30-60 minutes of Gameplay and a few weight sprites, all custom made by myself.

I plan on releasing the next Update (v.0.3) somewhere at the end of April or maybe the beginning of May, it will have quite a lot more content than what’s currently there.

Since this is my first project and it’s still very much in development, I would REALLY appreciate feedback, tipps, ideas or anything of the kind, so thanks in advance!

Here’s the Game:

Looking forward to what you guys think and have a great day!

Here are some screenshots from the game:

UPDATE: VERSION 0.3 is FINALLY OUT!!

So guess what? I finally sat my ass down and finished v.0.3. It more than doubles the amount of gameplay that was there up until now. There are some things I’m still experimenting with, like Freeplay mode. The mirror was removed for now, I haven’t made enough artwork for it yet. Speaking of artwork, new v.0.3 cover art coming in the next few days. Current gameplay duration should be at least an hour, unless you try to speedrun then like 45min. I fixed some of the bugs from the latest version, at least the ones I found and those that you guys found. Thanks again for reporting them, it’s really a huge help for me! I changed some of the gameplay flow of the starting area, so I’d like to hear some feedback on that if you spare the time.

Now for what is to come. Version 0.4 is actually in partial developement already buuuut will go on pause for until mid July. It will also be releasing alongside a new smalled spinoff game that i came up with some time ago. As I said some time ago, I don’t see the point in deadlines if I’m not gonna keep them, so just expect Version 0.4 to come out somewhere in late 2026. Thanks again to everyone who commented here! Have a fantastic day!

Has anyone tested to see if this is legit?

It is

Yeah it be legit, I saw it on itch like a week ago and gave it a go. Its a nice little bit to gaze into.

How do you guys progress with the story? I ate the food in her home and in the restaurant but I can’t get past the log in the forest

Go in the bottom left house in the village and talk to the little girl. Then go check out the log again with Beatritz, after that look around in the house on the bottom right of the village. I should probably make that more clear story wise
If you need anything else, feel free to ask

I can’t get into the house because it says they’re going to have people over for dinner.

I suspect I may have done the order of actions wrong

Looking good! Obviously not much to comment on at the moment but what’s here is a good start. The biggest thing I would recommend is placing a bunch more roadblocks to keep the player in the area that you want them in. On the first day you want them to stay in the house, so add a message that turns them back if they try to go outside. On the second day you want them to stay inside the village, so add a message that turns them back if they try to leave. Keeping the player in a confined space with a clear objective minimises confusion and the chances of getting lost and forgetting what they were supposed to be doing.

Also, backtracking is really annoying. When Margareth and Beatritz encounter the log, teleport them back to the village instead of having to walk all the way back. Additionally when in the abandoned house there should be a required demonstration of Darekka pushing crates out of the way, for example there could be some crates in the entrance hall that need to be moved. It’s not immediately obvious that they can be moved so the fish crate in the kitchen looks to be inaccessible.

Bug Findings
  • You can read your parent’s letter infinitely, meaning infinite money
  • You can then use that infinite money for infinite food at the inn. I would make that feast a one time thing, or at least only once until you leave the village.
  • The battle victory theme plays twice, first at the end of a battle then again once you exit the battle
  • The mirror descriptions are all broken. Margareth only has her highest stage description even when skinny, and the other two don’t have any.
  • Margareth is able to equip the bronze flail. More of an oversight tbh, but as a priest it doesn’t feel right for her to have that.

Thank you very very much!!!

This is really great advice and I’m definitely going to implement it. Thank you for also reporting bugs as I’ve only playtested it a few times because of some scheduling. The fighting and class system is still very early in its development as I haven’t really looked all too much into how all that works. However it will be conceived and properly built in version 0.3. Speaking of version 0.3, I’m going to implement all the Bugfixes and a general overhaul of the starting area in said Update. The reason it is as it currently is, is because I made the mistake on just adding the content of Version 0.2 onto 0.1 when the first version was really more of a testing stage, thusly making the continuity a little bad. I’m glad for the feedback, version 0.3 is planned for later this month or if I’m very busy sometime in May. Feel free to share some ideas for the future of the game, I’ll be sure to read them. Again I’m very grateful for the feedback, it’s much appreciated :+1:

Have a great day!

It’s likely that you haven’t reached the second weight stage for Margareth yet. You need to have eaten in both the mansion and the Inn and slept after to reach it, then try again. It’s definitely something I should work on though with the next update

A little update:

I doubt anybody really cares about this random ahh game, besides me, so this is more for my own peace of mind. The next update is in the works, in fact there’s a lot of content coming up. When? Idk? I have a lot of stuff going on in my life rn and I don’t really feel like investing toooooo much time into continuing the game at the moment.

Is this a break? Not really, I’m still working on it just less, so I guess it’s more of me postponing the next update with no clear release window. It will come…at some point. I’m sure I’ll make another post when it does eventually come out. Until then, thanks for the attention, the feedback and your time. Have a great rest of your day. Auf Wiedersehen!

If you haven’t slept in the bed yet, you should, if you have, you should be able to remove the crate by clicking on it. If that doesn’t work then there’s a bug, I’ll look into it. Thank you for letting me know. Tell me if it worked or not.

Hey there, having fun fiddling around with this so far, but I’ve found a boundary break in Schneewald Kreuzung, at around (29,28) , figured you should know

Summary

EDIT: After Making the deal, with Liz, the smithy has another, top of the stairs.

Thank you :folded_hands:

People like you are the backbone of my bug fixing. If you find anything else, let me know!
Have a fantastic day!

It’s been a short but enjoyable experience. I found the plot quite engaging and I’m eager to see what happens next. The fetish content is entertaining; perhaps more commentary on Margareth’s condition would be welcome.

I think you have some great ideas for a really fun game with fantastic characters. (づ ◕‿◕ )づ

Thank you!

The last couple days I’ve picked up pace on the next update and I think you’ll like it. I will be going further into depth on Margareth and her new “friend”, though that will be spanning over the course of the entire story. I’m glad to hear you’ve had fun so far. Have a great day and stay tuned

Nice to see a new update. Or at least, what I think is half of it. I got soft-locked after boarding the ship for the 2nd quest, stuck standing on the edge of the ocean after it transitioned to the map view. For what I did play though, it was fun. Coldie turning out to really just be someone who wants to give the girls ice cream was nice, and the Ministry woman becoming a full-on glutton was a nice sign of things to come. I saw a few other NPCs with gluttonous messages around town, maybe they too will pack on the pounds after we return from the 2nd quest? Or later, if there are more quests.

A bit confused as to why Lizbeth is so chill about the witch trying to exorcise her from Margareth, or why Margareth has no objections or second thoughts about it either. Maybe that gets explained after the soft-lock, but it does feel odd that we’re just going along with this exorcism quest with a character we’ve only just met, especially after we’ve also only just merged with Lizbeth in the first place.

One suggestion I have for after the Midas Chest quest, we’re given the opportunity to walk around town fat, but that doesn’t do anything other than let us look at the fat sprites for the girls, which we already saw at Coldie’s house. I would be neat if the NPCs had some alternative text to react the the three travellers they just saw suddenly return much heavier than they left. And then for returning to being skinny, I think it would be better to have an item in our inventory to call upon Lizbeth rather than search for the stars. I know that would mean going back and changing Lizbeth’s introduction, but as far as I know there’s only one set of stars to find, and there’s a big town to traverse. Having an item to just call upon whenever we want to resume the story would be far more convenient.

Bugs
  • You can speak to the ship’s captain and enter the Ministry before ever entering the Inn, skipping the Midas Chest quest entirely
  • Margareth is only person to be healed at Coldie’s house
  • The berry hunting music stops and is replaced with the standard town music when entering a new area
  • All of the market stalls have the top layer of their canvas cut off
  • The tattoo marketer always uses Beatritz’s fat face on her second sentence
  • All marketers use the girls’ skinny faces when they’re fat
  • The snow between these trees is on the wrong layer, plus the NPC here and the old woman below have no dialogue:
  • The dock entrance is blocked except for the very top and bottom tiles:
  • I did take a bunch of screenshots of typos and text wrapping issues, but I forgot to save them so I’ll have to hunt for them again next time

Hello there!

There is A LOT you pointed out here, which is absolutely amazing! Thank you for playing the new update so early, I have temporarily taken it down from the itch.io page in order to do a lot of bug fixing. Your feedback is really really helpful (again).

I’ll go through what you’ve adressed point by point:

the story, about Lizbeth accepting the exorcism…well we’ll get to the reason for that in v0.4, i already have a rough storyboard for it.

Concerning Freeplay and Lizbeth’s ability: You’re right it would definetly be better if there were more unique reactions after the characters gained weight, I’m working on that. The thing with Lizbeth’s ability as an item is something that crossed my mind before, in the past I’ve always considered it too much work to make versions of events for each weight stage, but now that I think about it, I’ve gotten much faster at working with RPG Maker and I think I could make it work. However you can expect that in either v.0.4 or some kind of v0.3.5.
In any case, making gameplay more free has always been on my to-do list, this update was my first attempt at a town and proper quests and I’ve already learned a lot from it.

Bugs:

For the skipping of Midas’s chest…I think i forgot to add a switch back in after playtesting that section myself hehe

Margareth being the only person to be healed, I think i know the reason, I’ll fix it right away

The Market stalls looking like that is on prupose  there weren’t any good textures to use for them in my tilesets so I kinda improvised

Tatto marketer, yeah that’s a missclick on my part and the marketers showing skinny faces when the girls are fat is me again forgetting a switch

the snow being on the wrong layer is such a skill issue holyy

Some of thr NPC’s not having dialogue is due to me not having any face images for them, would you still prefer them to talk without face images, just curious

I’ll see what I can do on the dock entrance

I also definetly have to check for typos and text wrapping issues.

Lastly, the bug you mentioned at the start about being stuck on the edge of the ocea, could you provide some specifics? I’m unable to replicate it, strangely. Though it’s not like you’ve missed much as the game ends once you arrive in the next city.

Thanks again, you’ve been a HUGE help!!
