P*kem*n Lard: A fatty centric P*kem*n region (QoL UPDATE!!!!!)

Alright Guys! New build has been released! Use the same links as before. Now contains an additional two pokemon lines and a small new area, one is a water type and the other is a rock type! Besides general difficulty reduction Maractus’ moveset has been slightly nerfed.

Also semi unrelated but it actually does get stab on water attacks. Thats its ability.

Can you make two versions? one with normal difficulty and the other with high difficulty, I do like high difficulty and the need to have a good strategy.

Don’t worry, I like the high difficulty too. I just removed one move and made grinding easier. If you want it to remain the same level of difficulty, just don’t catch muk or Impidimp.

Found an error in sprite names. Vileplume has 2 different sprites for their genders, the female variant is lacking a sprite and just uses the default one

the dif was toned down? the only gripe i had with it was in the start rout one npc had a evolved pokemon besides her i did not minde it remindes me of red blue or ruby and saph i found it fine XD

Not by much, essentially I just made grinding easier and added a water and a rock type to catch.

Yeah, I fixed this on my end already but for the time being it stays. Need to be at work on the new content! minor bugs like that will be fixed when it releases, along with the pokemon metrics (positioning sprites basically) which I figured out and some other lovely improvements

out of curiosity can the pokemon evolve yet? I’m just wondering lol I only started lol

Yes, they can. I got mine starter pokemon evolved last night.

Love the concept of the game. Seeing your trainer getting fatter is super exciting, but yeah the difficulty and lack of rom features make the game feel a bit tedious. I just hope in future updates you won’t have to start at the beginning again with zero badges

Transferring saves is easy, and apparently automatic between updates. With the current version. grinding shouldn’t be too necessary or difficult if you grab one of the two new mons.

Hey I just beat what’s in this so far (aside from fully evolving everything cuz I ain’t doin that with a level 20 trainer lol) and I’d just like to leave some thoughts here. The first thing that struck me was the sprites clearly had a lot of great work put into it. I really like all the trainers and can’t wait to see more. Plus I like the spin you put on a buch’a pkemn especially maractus and tentacrule. I was a little disappointed that the professor doesn’t have a more detailed design yet, nor do they have anything to say after you get your pkemn, but I’m sure that’s something to be added later.

After picking my starter and going to the boulder, I wondering why the boulder was blocking the way to begin with. I don’t know much about programing (the most I’ve done is fiddle with RPGmaker on my DS), so I’m curious what problem you ran into there. If it was a narrative problem, may I recommend a cop who if you talk to her without a pkemn she’ll say something like “Skinny feller like you, with no pkemn? You a masochist er something? Sorry, but lettin you out there with no protection is just trouble waiting to happen.” and once you get your starter she could get excited and say something like “Wait a minute that pkemn you got ain’t from some suck up region like Kalos or god forbid Galar, it’s from 'round these parts! Well I just gotta welcome ya to Glutga, I’m always happy to share my love and pride for the region I protect with others! Here, have a local p*kedex and some balls on me. Have fun out there and please soak in the surroundings.” er something like that idk.

Funny story bout my first encounter is that I picked Flask and my first fight was against a lvl 5 Oddish lmao I got wiped by acid. I wasn’t mad in fact I was happy that it was swingin right out the gate and my suggestion is to allow a lvl 5 bounsweet and twoscool to show up in the very first area just to cover for the other starters as well lol. Another thing that I’d like is maybe a regional bug in an early area. I might’ve missed a pkemn to level up, but so far it seems like the first evo you can get is the starter, and I feel that a regional bug that evolves earlier than that would help with the evo pacing and calm my brain goblins that demand to see cool stuff happen.

After getting to the first town I talked to a few fun NPCs, walked into 3 identical fake houses lol, and took on the first gym which was a fun challenge and pretty funny with the exploding chefs. Also did I mention I like the sprite work yet lol cuz that first gym has some of the best imo. I finished that first town, had some hot wings and moved on to the south to find some grimers and impidimps (I probably shoulda explored that area first cuz they would’a been useful for the gym). What I also found was the trainer who promised EXP galore or if I lose, she promised to “feed your ass into next week”. I got entirely bodied cuz as it turns out my one starter at lvl16 and a paras at 13 wasn’t enough lol. After losing it got me wondering if an extended scene after losing was possible. Not to lead the player to a game over no that sorta thing don’t fit in the format, just as a quick whoops end sequence that is reverted once you lose your cash and are taken to the center.

After that I headed back to the first center, beat the rival, whom I hope gets bigger along with our trainer, and fought the second gym leader. Now this location might be temporary, but I actually wouldn’t mind if she stayed there and think it would be super cool if she were a late game gym leader that you are able to loop back to after beating another gym leader that opens a shortcut back to her and gives you an item that’ll prove to her you are worthy to battle! Also while the vileplume not having an original sprite was weird and I could tell not a finished thing, I could def see muchlax just being in this region because he just fits as is lol.

After her I wandered around leveling my team trying to evolve something else before giving up and just interacting with everything. One thing I found was at the train station. Grey said something along the lines of “Looks like I wont be leaving anytime soon.” and that got me thinking about the character I was playing as and made me wonder why are they here. Every other game in the series is you’re now of age so here’s a pkemn have an adventure. In this game I feel like I’m missing info. Why did my character move here? Was it maybe an accident? What is the professor researching exactly? This is obviously stuff that I’m sure will be expanded later in development although I have seen a couple of projects were it gets better and better as it goes on, but the devs maybe forget about the early game a little bit. If I could leave a few recommendations on that front: expanding on what the professor’s researching to get the player interested and want to find out about their hypothesis they’re testing here, add a short quick rival fight right after getting your first pkemn to earlier cement her as someone to compete against (heck she’s been here longer, what if her team is the same as it is when you fight her the second time so that could make the fight feel more natural and add some cathartic feeling when you do beat her and it could fire her up and make her more welcoming of getting bigger and stronger er something), some early warnings about the evil team’s nefarious deeds like maybe they’re trying to abuse the naturally unnatural growth of people and their pkemn er something you know.

Overall I enjoyed my time with the demo. I’m definitely keeping an eye on this project and can’t wait to see where you take it! Best of luck with the project and sorry if I got a little rambly lol!

this is exactly the sort of stuff I needed to hear, not all but a fat chunk of this feedback will definitely be utilized for the game, good ideas and such. also vileplume does have an original sprite just not for female in that build, that is a glitch that was fixed. In the discord plans for motivation and such have been discussed at length, and will continue to be developed. Thanks for the feedback!

I’m really glad that helps! Honestly I was a lil worried that I came off a lil pushy er something lmao. Oh I’ll def try’n join the discord and read up on that stuff. Hopefully I’ll see the sprite my next playthrough, know I could just take a look on yer DA, but I wanna be surprised. Hope my feedback keeps bein useful in the future and doesn’t end up overbearing! Small dev update!

Pkemn has now been censored to avoid getting spotted by the feds.
The vast majority of mons have been sprited. 12 sprites remain, the vast majority are prevos. In totality there are 156 pokemon at the moment, with potentially more being added. Most abilities and evo methods have been coded in with just a few remaining. The dream machine, allowing you to pick most evolving pokemon as starters, should be up and running. There’s a lot of content planned for the next major update, but only a little bit of the additional maps gave been completed, a little less than half. After all mons have been implemented the only obstacle to getting content out to you guys will be mixing and matching map pieces, so development should go swimmingly.

Welcome to weight gaming @robo_bounty_hunter have to be released first, outside of the demo I don’t believe there have been any updates yet. And the current update in progress was last mentioned eleven days ago. You could probably always join the discord for more info.
