Now that “Wave 1” of Project Atlas is over, I’ll give my general thoughts about the game before going over what I thought about BB’s update. I’d like to start by saying that I love the atmosphere. There are tons of fantasy and modern day settings on Weight Gaming, with a few sci-fi ones on here as well, but very few cyberpunk ones. It feels refreshing to see something different, and I really appreciate that you went this route.
I’d also like to point out how the vertical map is used to reinforce the cat girls’ role in society. The way that things get progressively worse the lower from the human neighborhood reflects the way that they put themselves so far above their supposed lessers, even though without their extensive medical advances they are one bad day away from death. It feels like the darker, neon lit section of town closer to the cat girl living area would have a nastier brand of human that is more likely to actively harass them for fun since they are probably pension losers, as opposed to the upper class that is more likely to leave them alone unless provoked (probably by making a mistake).
The atmosphere was also well represented by the dialogue. There was a rich variety of different personalities represented, and it made the world fun to explore as opposed to a simple background to the fetish content. My favorite bit of dialogue (aside from the sidequests) was 99Lives telling Amber about why the cat girls are enslaved. It shows that she has the critical thinking skills to realize that bad circumstances don’t justify cruel actions, and provides a good justification for wanting to help the race that your people have enslaved. Of course, with your track record good dialogue is expected.
The visual design is truly phenomenal. Quite simply, it just looks good. While some of it is due to seeing different RPGMaker tilesets, a large part of it has to do with the fact that CJ is really good at what he does. You can tell that he has improved from his years of experience and used it to make this game as much his as yours. Every visual, from the basic sprites, to the animations, and even the artwork is all excellent and I’m impressed with how much he’s grown as an artist. I’d say that he’s probably the best sprite artist on the forum, if not the best overall artist. I know that it’s customary to thank him for the sauce, but I wanted to take a moment to say that I appreciate every piece of his work.
Getting into BB’s update, I feel like most of what I had to say about it has been said already, so I’ll try to keep this part brief. While I do think that being pampered into morbid obesity is my favorite WG trope, turning into a spoiled brat as you get fatter is a close second. I’m very excited to see how far BB goes down this rabbit hole! My favorite part was her eating animation when she was binging on all of the desserts. Something about her mouth opening was just adorable to me.
Unfortunately, that does bring me to my big complaint: I don’t like how you flashed back to her as a nine year old in the middle of the big fetish scene of the update. Lord knows I stuck with you through some pretty weird things Miss Piggy Kuppers comes to mind, but it’s extremely jarring to see that come up without warning when I’m supposed to be enjoying some quality sauce.
Overall, I’m extremely excited for the future of this game. While I still want more of both games, I think that I like this one even more than Apostles. Thank you for putting so much into your work, and thank everyone who is working on both games.
P.S. You said that going through a character’s questlines will lead to small changes, but if you go through both their wholesome and corrupting paths, will they both change her or will one take precedence?
