Project F.A.T. v1.8.6 - Completion

I will close the poll at the end of the weekend my time. If it’s a tied vote, I’ll try find a happy medium.

See, despite the jank, it’s a really fascinating and enjoyable part of the game. It’s cool gradually unlocking contestants as their appetites become capable of handling larger volumes due to other story events, and I think

I think there are two possible moves to make here:

One, you comprehensively add more branching paths to the existing unlockable opponents so that nothing the player can do (perhaps bar eating people, which tends to be a given for ruining flags and at the player’s own risk) will result in their slot being unfilled. If you do something that would make a contestant unavailable, a different one should take their place. I’ll return to my Daniella/maid example here, which provides an extremely simple replacement, but lots of extra work and care would have to be taken for people like Anna. The contest hall might need to itself be a prerequisite for some other quest progression to prevent progression errors.

Or two, you divorce the minigame from canonicity in some capacity. Perhaps opponents that you permanently miss out on somehow can still be challenged in hypothetical “what-if” form if you pay like an extra fee to interact with a parallel timeline or some other contrived shit. Think like the tombstones for murdered characters in Dark Souls 2. This would make sure a gap in the linear progression wouldn’t prevent the player from experiencing opponents further along the chain, although I imagine it would be somewhat troublesome to puzzle out sequences of events and variables for which to set a “this is no longer possible” flag. Perhaps the fee could insta-unlock anyone regardless if you’re willing to pay it? Perhaps it’s not money, but rather some rare or key item?

I do like the idea, its why I’m hesitant to remove it. I’d really love to see it working.

The branching paths are there, but sadly as i add more people the paths become increasingly convoluted, hence the breakages.
I may just restructure most of it and reintroduce my original idea I had a few patches ago where If a contestant was eaten, an NPC with a random value would take their place.

I don’t want to go into alternate timelines and such, so I will probably stay away from that entirely.

I might do in a sense that doesn’t rely on certain events to happen, but if they do happen it will take the bigger size.
But it might be done in an entirely different way.

So. Here comes a lot of text:

All contestants are available to begin with, but at their “starting sizes” (whatever they may be)
Then when you challenge them, if their next size is unlocked, you will fight against that instead. For characters who don’t have multiple sizes, they will simply have a higher capacity overall instead.
For example, Eloise only has one size (for now…) so if you beat her and decided to rechallenge her, she would only have a slightly increased fullness maximum, making it a tad harder.
Anna though, you would fight her at her smallest size first, once you beat her smallest size, the events with her and husband will unlock, which will unlock her next size in the hall. Then beating her again will unlock the next set of events tied to her final size change. From then on, each time you challenge her and win, her maximum fullness capacity will increase by a set number.

And then I can add in an option for if you win X amount of contest halls contests, you unlock a special prize or something…

All right, so I had a weird one-off bug happen while using Burp in battle. The on-screen graphics froze in a slightly fuzzy state and stayed that way; I could still hear the game menus responding to my inputs, but I couldn’t actually see what I was doing. Ending the battle didn’t fix it either. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to replicate the bug. As I recall, when it happened, I had just used Burp on the previous turn and I accidentally spammed buttons too much and selected it again. That’s all I can remember, really.

Regarding the contest hall, I do very much like the idea of encountering NPC’s from other parts of the game there, sometimes at multiple sizes. So from a narrative standpoint, my response to the poll would be “Keep as is, just fix it.”

However… the actual minigame doesn’t feel very engaging. The main issue I have with it is that there’s no real interaction with the opponent. To win, you do a bit of arithmetic to figure out how to maximize your score given your current stomach capacity and then you execute whichever sequence of 7 actions you decided on (e.g. 4 Roast Pork, 1 Seafood Surprise, rub belly, 1 Roast Pork). At no point does any action by the opponent change what your optimal move is; you could replace the opponent with a randomly generated score to beat and the challenge would still be mechanically identical.

As a suggestion for how the minigame could be changed, perhaps you and the opponent could choose from the same set of dishes, with limited quantities of each one available? I admit I haven’t fully worked out the details of how it might work, and I apologize for that; I just really didn’t want to throw out criticism without at least trying to offer up something to get the creative juices flowing.

So that is an RPG maker bug, it happens when too many things happen at once (inputs and events) and it sort of freezes. I have no idea how to fix it other than shut the game off and reboot.

Yeah I like the idea of it too, I think I just need to properly set conditionals and step through them slowly.
I do agree the game itself could be slightly more engaging, although even with limited numbers on foods, it would be the same result, maybe just quicker.

Is there a way to enter eloise food emporium after failing to eat her ?

no, there isn’t. think of it like PTSD where she’s eaten you (well in your head) and it urges you against it.

There’s a likely error in the door in the castle basement if you are defeated by the Queen. If you go back down there the basement door won’t open, even if you go back to the computer and successfully reset the password and unlock the doors.

I forgot to flip the switch the second time after the password recovery. Apologies.

and also how do i get past the guards talking abt the don

There’s nothing past that point, but when you go to the castle and interact with the queen, and win. Some scenes will play out and you’ll need to find a way to a new continent. You then go to Tiana’s house and either talk to her if you didn’t eat her or check her bookshelf if you did.

Then you need to get a VIP pass from the casino, and head upstairs to talk to the Don. If you win 5 times in a row, he’ll tell the guards to move and that will be the end of the current content for that version.

Uhm, wait… You mean the game isn’t supposed to just end after you defeat the Queen? Because it did for me. I even did it 3 times at varying levels of corruption, which just led to the 3 endings from previous versions of the game (eat the queen, team up with her, or force her to make amends). Granted, I’ve seen a couple people mentioning things like robots or additional interactions with Isabelle, which I never saw, so maybe I just missed something. I defeated Isabelle again at her larger size at the lab, but I didn’t see her do anything else after that. I also didn’t wait for the whole Danielle/maid saga to play out, if that matters.

Nope. The Danielle saga is just a side tid bit.

Yeah so Isabelle has 3 phases. (Excluding the first)

  1. She’ll come to the lab and confront you.
  2. After 5 days, she’ll stop you in front of the lab
  3. After 10 more days when you go to castle, she’ll stop you.

This should change the interactions.

Although from some earlier posts I read, some paths may be a bit screwed, so when I get internet back again, I’ll work on it and fix it hopefully

are the riddles on the second floor significant in any way or are they there to throw you off.

also how do i unlock the rank 3 danielle phase 2 fight

Possibly silly question, but reading over the changelog: Which slime girl is “SlimeWife”?

The guy for the contest keeps saying that the boss for rank 1 isnt available yet. What can i do to make her available?

feed the girl outside the contest hall asking for yogurt
