PWGD (Twine text dungeon RPG) [ver 0.5.0a-wip2.1 (2024/Jun/08)]

Finally new update! I lost my job and my daily life was chaotic, but I managed to complete a new build!

This time, the update is mainly writing.
New stories and weight related shenes have been added. There isn’t much new content in dungeons or battles. There’s also some text about a new character and some of their settings. However, these settings may change once we actually start developing the story seriously.

In next update, I would like to make some minor visual improvements.
Also, I’m going to implement someoneoutthere’s idea. Sorry, nothing has been implemented in this version…

Thank you for another update and sorry to hear you lost your job, i hope you find something quick to replace it. Was really fun to see the added text and reactions of the characters as you grow. I enjoyed a lot when you ask Growlithe about moves as you are huge and he just hugs you. Was super cute. The new character that helps with the apples is a great system, now i just feel the amount you get at the end is very small but hopefully you get more in the new zone.

Tough as we are getting more and more items, i would ask if you can implement a system to either sell some you might have too much of or to consume or use more than one. Having around 100 apples and having to eat one by one is tiresome. If you dont want to make a sell system, you could also have an event like a mystery well where you throw out normal and small apples and they can become mystery apples.

It’s always great that you put out an update, just be sure to take care of yourself first.

No need to apologize! Your health and life is first priority! Please take care of yourself.

Looking forward to go through what you have. Even if you think it is not much, I will enjoy it! :3

Hey, I’m just happy to see another update! Please take all the time you need. It sounds like you’re dealing with a lot in your life right now, so take care of yourself first.

It’s good to see that the Mystery Apples have more functionality now. (Naturally, the Fat and Thin variants are quite useful.) I’m also really happy to see more reactions to the player’s weight–it’s one of my favorite parts of playing this type of game (in case you couldn’t tell from my suggestions).

I do have a bit of feedback on some of the new dialogue:

Growlithe move demonstration while you're chubby

You fell onto your back and he felt like he was pooping on you.

I’m actually quite confused about what this could mean. Did you mean to say that Growlithe “felt tired” or “was pooped” (くたばった)? The way the sentence is written, “pooping” sounds like it means something like 排便 or 用便. (My Japanese is not very good, so please forgive me if I’m being unclear or rude.) I know that that’s also a fetish for some people, but it’s not something I was expecting in this game, so I just want to make sure I’m understanding it correctly.

Ranking up to Normal

“So, you’re here… Huh? Are you going to summon me out of the blue and secretly lynching me? What makes you think that?”

“Lynching” usually means something like vigilantism (私刑), especially when referring to a hanging (絞首刑). That’s pretty dark… If the intended meaning is what I think it is, then perhaps you could just say something like this instead:

Ah, you’re here… Huh? Did I call you here to punish you? What makes you think that?

Meeting the new character for the first time

When the player calls out to the aunt, her aunt turns around with a gentle smile. She asks, “Oh, nice to meet you. Who are you? Are you an explorer?” she asks.

I’m guessing that “aunt” was a translation of おばさん. Most English speakers don’t use the word “aunt” to refer to anyone except their parent’s sister (伯母さん or 叔母さん). It might sound more natural to just say something like this:

You call out to the woman, and she turns around, smiling gently.

Finally, I noticed that if you reach the highest weight level while you’re in town and then talk to the captain, he acts as if you lost weight. It seems like the game doesn’t expect you to be at the highest weight level until after you go through the usual story scene, which only takes place after you come home from a dungeon. So if you talk to the captain before going out to a dungeon, the game doesn’t check to see if you’re at the highest weight level–it just assumes that if you’re not Fat or Obese, then you must be below those levels.

Other than that, though, I really appreciated the added dialogue! Little additions like that can go a long way toward making a game feel more fleshed out (no pun intended :stuck_out_tongue: ).

Take all of the time you need! I really hope things turn around for you soon. I just know they will.

As for the game, it’s a very enjoyable experience! Having a pokemon dungeon crawler game is always fun! I love the interactions with the various characters too especially the move interaction with growlithe haha. If I were to suggest possible additions to the game, I would think that the edition of items from pokemon could be added to the loot table when exploring dungeons. Like maybe you have a chance of finding a nugget, which you could sell for a decent price in the shop. Or you could find a rare candy or even some of the vitamin supplements (Like Carbos, Iron, etc.). Regardless, I am super excited to see where this goes! But, stay healthy and take care of yourself first

Hey everyone, thank you for your kind words!

English corrections are always appreciated.
Generally, I leave long texts like this to Google Translator. Lately, I’ve started making adjustments to the translation results, but I don’t really care about the translation results, so I don’t even remember what I wrote. (This is the first time I’ve heard of was pooped, lol)

I’ve gotten used to it to some extent recently, but I still don’t like writing much.

Ugh, I really want a writer… Or maybe I wish I was born in the USA…

English isnt my first language as well so i try to avoid informing of errors that i might not even be sure if they are correct as well. Whats is good is that you keep trying even if its a lot of work.

It’s fine to me if you make mistakes, my brain basically autocorrects the sentences. English technically was my 2nd language, the first being Vietnamese (although I just don’t speak it anymore), and I think I remember one time, having trouble with English. Oh yeah… about being in the USA… it’s not THAT great to live there, probably cuz of costs, haha

あまり期待させたくなかったので今まで迷いましたが、実は日本語をちょっと話せるのです。また英語はネイティブです。辞書に助かってこれを書いたのです。文を検査させたい場合は、伝えてくれたら直してあげます。私は日本語があまり上手じゃないですが翻訳機械だけよりうまく英語を書けると思います。

I’ve been hesitant to say so up until now because I didn’t want to promise too much, but the truth is, I do know a little Japanese, and I’m also a native English speaker. I wrote the above paragraph with the help of a dictionary. If there’s some writing you want to have checked, you can send it to me, and I’ll do my best to correct it. My Japanese isn’t very good, but I should still be able to write a better translation than just Google Translate by itself.

Hey, thank you for your interest in my game! Well, it’s different from translate, but it would be helpful if you could correct some parts of the English that you think are strange. If you find a sentence where the phrasing is strangely formal or the subject is strange, that’s because I generated it using translator.

Or, some weird broken grammered sentences like this, that means I wrote those directly. In english. But as I said broken, maybe this can tell what I wanted to mean better?

You were an expert on Japanese? grateful. Well, I’m not good at English either, so… My English grades at school have never been good either. However, although I have gotten used to listening to and reading things on Youtube and Fur Affinity, I am not good at writing them down, because I have no experience. That’s how my English ability is.

Btw, the reply to FatPanther above also serves as a sample of the sentence I used the translator and the sentence I wrote completely by myself. Hey~ is the former, and I usually use translator for stories and long texts. Or~ is the latter, small misc text like flavortext and some system text.

I would like to introduce progress of v0.4.1a. To make it look more understandable and fancy, I tried adding icons and highlighting items. I was actually thinking of drawing those icons, but until then I think I’ll use emoji instead. And some more fat flavor text…
Here are some previews:

So, it looks like it will be released a little later…

I was playing some of the game earlier as a Pikachu but is there even an immobile tier for your character? Cause I got over 200 pounds and am still obese.

Oh really? Pikachu should be massive from 208.34lbs in the current version.

Oh I just haven’t reached that stage yet apparently cause I am a little bit over 206. I wonder how fat you need to be to get immobile. Also is there like a mystery shack you need an invitation for to use in the caves I could have sworn I ran into it at some point.

Also would older saves be usable for the updates or not?
