So, I’m thinking, how does the tabletop game thing work? Like, is there some website or something? How do we visualize characters, how do we roll dice? And why I’m asking, is because I want to join a group, but I’m kinda shy?
(Rather human/“elf, dwarf, etc, etc.” and all the good original basic races- styled ones, not too much into furry stuff, but if the others like it, then I’ll roll with it! Also, slightly not rolling with NSFW, I’m just not in a mood for that, lol.)
This is going to sound like a cop out answer to your question (because it kind of is) but there are a lot of different ways people handle like every single part of your post. Some people comm art for their characters, others draw it themselves, some people use character making software like Hero Forge or Reroll, and others just write up a visual description and let the other players imagine them. As for where they play it online, I have the same answer. Some people use virtual tabletop software like Roll20 (which is free) or Foundry and Table Top Sim (which aren’t) to run the game. If your dm doesn’t have the time to design combat maps, they may just describe the scene and play a little fast and loose with positioning of everything. Additionally, discord is a very popular way of playing tabletop rpgs because you have both the option of voice chat or having a dedicated text channel for the entire game (text is more popular for fetish games from my experience). All virtual tabletops have a built in dice roller and their are a number of bots for discord servers that can roll dice as well.
Giving my own examples from my groups:
-Visualization: Ref pics are appreciated, but wordy descriptors are plenty fine.
-Rolling dice: I use DiceMaiden through Discord, it’s very straightforward. Everyone gets to see what is rolled so everyone is honest. The DM may or may not use the same bot.
-‘Shy’: That’s something you will need to confront when it comes to roleplaying with multiple people. Promptness and engagement is very important to respect the time of everyone at the metaphorical table.
If that sounds acceptable to you, feel free to reach out to me. I’ve several games going. tungstonmountain on Discord.
ThatOneCoyote has the long and short of it. Most games that I have run or played in use Roll20 for the sessions and mechanical references while a discord server (or channels on a larger server) handle everything else. Typically text-only, as you would expect for kink campaigns.
Also many kinky campaigns are quiite NSFW (source: am ace). You’ll want to be absolutely certain to get on the same page about that.
For playing online like some other commenters mentioned there’s dedicated virtual tabletops like roll20 and Foundry or you can even just use discord for running games. Usually on these sites there’s dice rollers included with them. I’d say it just depends on your dm and how they want to run the game. Also I have to ask since you mentioned not wanting nsfw if your looking for a game with kink stuff or just a normal ttrpg to play in. Cause if kinks included you kinda inevidably gonna have nsfw stuff and other wise for normal games there’s plenty of places online you can look for games in search of players.
