Recruiting by Application: Misadventures in Mylgaarot Manor [OPEN]

Misadventures in Mylgaarot Manor: A homebrew 5th-Edition (2014) adventure

Lady Zymandora has a problem. Her rivals in House Mylgaarot have undertaken a scheme to secure Lolth’s favour: rituals of gluttonous excess that please the Spider Queen’s Huntress-on-the-Web aspect. These rituals must be interrupted. Yet, worse than to see her enemies succeed would be for a failed attempt at sabotage to be traced back to her. Thus she seeks agents from further afield in the Underdark and even upon the surface to whom she can contract this dangerous yet lucrative work. That’s where you come in.

Will include: Stuffing, belly inflation, mild-to-moderate weight gain, vore, mind control, & corruption. Belly-focused kinks will take precedence over outright weight gain, though the latter will of course be present. The game is run by a trans woman, and will include some transfeminine NPCs. Transphobes and chasers need not apply. Recruitment will remain open until the 1st of March or until a full party is assembled, whichever occurs sooner.

Sessions will take place on most Sundays each month until the adventure is complete, subject to my availability and beginning no earlier than the 9th of March. Each will take place from approximately noon-to-6pm EDT (GMT-4) to accommodate the slower pace of text-only online play. This time MAY be adjusted in either direction to suit the party’s needs. Reasonable considerations will be made for missed sessions, but players consistently unable to attend will be replaced to maintain the game flow and balance. The adventure will be played through roll20 with a dedicated discord server for out-of-character matters.

Mylgaarot Manor is a mini-megadungeon. A living environment with its own internal factions and politics. Where care must be taken not to bring down too much attention at any one time. Where the problems presented are not mere puzzles with correct solutions, rather obstacles players are left to resolve using their own wits, the quirks of their character builds, and by taking advantage of elements in the environment around them. Forward intelligence will be provided on prime targets and other key figures within the Manor.

The dungeon (indeed, the whole adventure!) reacts and adapts to players’ choices and the characters’ actions. Players must be proactive and imaginative, both willing & able to think outside the box. Straightforward room-clearing dungeoneering is not the correct approach. Rather, the party must investigate the environment, play NPCs off of one another, and choose their outright battles most carefully. The mercenary nature of the party and the adventure make it trivial to replace individual problem characters or players as needed.

Just as your characters must prove themselves to Zymandora to earn this contract, so must players demonstrate their suitability through an application process. This will require the following:

  • A feature-complete 9th-level character build. This includes class, subclass, ancestry & background, as well as fighting style, choice of weapons, and a shortlist of signature spells, as appropriate. Assume 1st-level starting equipment at this stage. Bonus equipment options and other elements of customization will be addressed upon character approval.
  • An in-character pitch to Zymandora to illustrate their suitability for the mission. This should touch on several past adventures suitable to an adventurer of 5th-9th level, as well a the core skills they bring to the mission. Approach this with the style, voice, and effort you will bring to the adventure.
  • A summary of the player’s previous tabletop experience. Those new to tabletop games or to D&D 5E will NOT be considered. Familiarity with a variety of tabletop systems is an asset, as is familiarity with the “immersive sim” genre of video games (Deus Ex, Bioshock, Dishonoured, etc.).

To reiterate, this game will be run in 5th Edition (2014). The complete list of approved sourcebooks is as follows: PHB, VGM, TCE, XGE. Spells from other 5E sourcebooks MAY be approved on a case-by-case basis. Custom rules will be used for stuffing, weight gain, and vore. These rules will be shared with players after the approval process.

(Note: Applications must be submitted through the link provided here. Applications received in any other way will NOT be considered.)

Point-buy system, or 4d6-low?

Still considering since I don’t know if I’ll have Sundays off, but I’ll make a character for fun just to start

Point-buy, though I would encourage waiting until approval to put too much time into the details.

That said if you enjoy making characters, by all means proceed!

The rule that the Tasha’s book added is allowed? I am talking about that one that lets you change your racial bonuses, for example if you’re a mountain dwarf you have +2 constitution and +1 strength, but with the Tasha’s rule you can have +2 intelligence and +1 wisdom

The rule for substituting racial ability score bonuses is allowed, yes.

Just one last question, I was thinking about using a plasmoid, but it’s from a different book than the ones you said were allowed, I wanted to know if there is a problem with it? sorry for bothering you with the question

Hmmm. I’ll message you directly to discuss that.

I’m really loving the concept here. It’s not often you get a campaign that isn’t just trying to fight things in the underdark or trying to escape it!

Thanks! It’s far more of an extended foray behind enemy lines. One can imagine drow feeling the need to keep their mistakes hidden and shift blame to rivals, allowing a more deliberate pace. Not necessary to rush rush rush in one go before consequences catch up with the party.

Ahh, but you also have a chance to integrate your character into the Drow culture, and solutions other than fighting are viable. It’s cool! I like it! I’m just trying to think of what would be a really cool character idea.

Got my apps sent in!

Be sure to read the post in full, people. I have received more than one application from which it is certain the applicant did not.

A shame, but understandable. I’ve had on-off experience with D&D among other ttrpgs (including crunchier stuff like Shadowrun, CoC, the FFG 40KRPGs, things of this nature) since 3 (including the D&D Next playtesting and yes, pre 3.5) but haven’t felt the urge to go back since friends have been more interested in pathfinder and the like.

If at some point you’re willing to bend this a bit in exchange for doing the reading necessary to grok the way things are now, I’ll send an app.
