As a few people have probably already noticed I have been making a few changes to some of the forums categories. This is the start of the larger cleanup and reorg effort I am doing in general.
Right now I am mainly focusing on a few low traffic areas and using this to also test some changes that I plan on making to the Projects category if we end up meeting the funding goal. Everyone should expect to continue to see things move around especially once I get to reworking the General Games > Mods category.
Here is a quick overview of what I have done so far:
- The Forum > Site Feedback and Project Ideas & Discussion categories have had voting enabled on their topics. This allows for an easy way for the community to show support for an idea or suggestion simply by voting for it. If you scroll up to the top of the topic you should see a vote box right next to the title.
- Forum > How to/Help has been cleaned up and I enabled the answer and upvote/downvote system on it. Now the OPs can mark a response as an answer after which the topic will be closed after 1hr and the upvote/downvote system should help users express what solutions where useful to them and which ones are not.
- I have changed the name of
Project Helpto Dev Advice. I hope this name will make it more clear as to the purpose of the category since especially Dev Advice > Art/Animation was filled with requests for artists. - The subcategories under Dev Advice all have had upvote/downvote posts enabled as well as the answer system to assist with questions.
- All posts asking for help from other devs or offering help have been moved to a dedicated Job Board category.
- Posts in Job Board will automatically lock after being inactive for 90 days. Also answer have been enabled so if the positions have been filled or the OP wants to close the topic they can just mark a post as an answer and it will lock after an hour.
- I have been reworking the tags and making use of some of the new tools to limit what tags can be used in what categories as well as requirements for certain tags to be present on the topics. I hope this will help keep the posts tagged a bit better and limit some confusion by reducing tags to those appropriate for the category.
I am still making adjustments and getting things sorted out and cleaned up so expect things to change and posts to be moved and/or locked where appropriate. If you see anything broken, wrong, or would like to offer some feedback feel free to make a post in the Forum > Site Feedback section!
