Swelladia | Body Inflation RPG & Sandbox

Here is a preview of the sentinel class fighting a basic bandit in my upcoming game, Swelladia! Those who played the Alpha demo might recognize the sentinel class as the class your companion, Caulen, used!

In fights your opponent will comment on both your inflative state, and their own! I actually got pretty unlucky this clip, as I had some repeats.

Each turn, they have about six responses total to pick from for their commentary. This feature, as well as your own POV sprite are both fully toggleable if they’re not to your liking!

The combat at the moment is still very basic, however I have already developed plans to give each class unique mechanics that tie into their identity as a class. These overhauls, as well as new classes, will be available in the first update after launch!

The ETA for public release is about 3 weeks from now, accounting for the closed beta testing period in the Discord server!

All things considered, that fight seems like it was pretty close. Presumably your character was low-level?

Yeah, I used worse gear then you would typically have to drag the fight out a bit for showcase purposes.

I just want to post this up, and it was a very hard decision for me to decide to post this but I feel like I need to get my side of something that happened this week out there:

So I was recently banned from the Swelladia Discord server for (According to someone): “Being an asshole about the delay”, when I had expressed my honest opinion about the excessive delays (Yes I know that it was poorly worded and I will admit that I could have worded it better). But to tell you the truth, I felt like that when you set a date for when a beta would be released (Regardless of whether it is a closed or an open beta), then there is kind of an expectation that it will come out around that time, give or take a few hours at longest in terms of delays.

In my opinion, if the game really is not ready to be played, just tell us that it is not ready. I understand that making a game is hard, but saying that it is going to be released with an exact date but then not end up releasing something and then telling “Ah, just give me a few more hours” or “Just wait a little bit longer” is kind of being an equal “asshole” as the way I worded my opinion about the delays that got me banned. I know you said you wanted to fix all the bugs that you knew were there, but in my opinion, I don’t really see a reason for why that should delay because even if you know there are bugs out there, you can still release it and say that there are expected bugs that you are aware of so that people can be able to provide you with feedback, just like a beta release is intended to. But by attempting to fix all those bugs before releasing, you kind of defeat the whole purpose of even releasing a beta in the first place (This was something I did point out as I said if you were going to fix all those bugs you were aware of, it would be better for you to just do an open beta rather than have a closed beta release).

Well to be honest, I have become a bit upset by how you have constantly set these firm dates of release and then not follow through, which was why I gave that opinion that I believe got me banned from the Discord, but to be clear, I’m not trying to be an asshole about all the delays, but I’ve been following the game closely and I have noticed a clear pattern that I really did not like and was reminicent of other projects that ended up being abandoned/discontinued because the dev ultimately didn’t like how the game ultimately turned up and thought that it would not deliver to expectations, which I know this is not the case for this game. I also have noticed that you have been hostile to such opinions and feedback in regards to when you get called out for not following through, something that I’ve seen in devs whose games that ultimately get abandoned and I know that you are better than that. And yes, as I have said before, I believe my wording was a bit too harsh and could have been worded a bit better, and I do want to apologize if the way I worded my opinion offended you, but to be honest, I really don’t want to see this game end up like other projects where the developer just stalls and stalls until deciding to call it quits and abandon the project. If you want to keep me banned from your Discord, that is fine, I’m fully understanding of this, but I believe that you have proved my point about your reception to criticism.

And to the mods, I do apologize for this long and lengthy post, if you want to delete it, that is fine by me, but I really wanted to get my side of the story out in order to try and clear up any misunderstanding that may have occured outside her in the Swelladia Discord server.

Calling me a fraud isn’t really criticism, and that was the reason I banned you. I don’t know where you got the idea that I banned you for complaining about me delaying the game, but that wasn’t the reason. Even the server mods had complained about it being delayed, lol.

If you think you are the only person that has complained, that’s very goofy. I understand being upset, but you in particular have repeatedly hounded me in a far more hostile manner than anybody else. You even DM’d multiple mods (one of which wasn’t even a moderator anymore lmao), then griped even more to them after I said I needed more time to work. ON TOP OF that you have complained about being banned on multiple platforms, days after being banned, which is insane. I even offered everyone free beta access to the first post-launch update who was supposed to get it for this release to make up for the delays.

Also I wrote in every post in the discord that it was the tentative release date for a reason.

Alright, I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong, but i wanted to try out NPC inflation and inflate a shopkeeper, I opened the “out of battle” item menu and chose the pump, it showed in the right side as a talk icon and when pressing C (as it said to do in the item menu tutorial iirc) nothing happened. Do I have to finish the Goblin quest thingie first?

pretty sure there was a warning that NPCs and questgivers were not inflatable

Questgivers are not yet inflatable due to some time crunches.

In a few days I’ll put out a patch enabling it and adding common villagers to inflate as well! I’ve been focused on fixing all the progression blocks & crashes before I work on the newer content stuff

I understand that you may still be mad at me and that is fine, we can leave it at that, I’m not telling you to do anything and only wanted an explanation for my ban, as for the mod talk, the most I’ve talked with was Fisto, and not a single other mod (I have DMs from non-mutual server people turned off) so let’s cut the drama and leave at that. I’ve made my point and I’m not going to complain anymore about it.

Also plenty of bugs for you:

1. It seems that whenever you exit the dungeon in the starting village, the guard and Raina seem to still be in the normal spots when you return as opposed to the room updating based on your actions.

2. Interacting with anything after reopening a save file causes the game to throw an error.

3. I think this was one of the more recent bugs since it wasn’t present in the first beta, but after interacting with Raina’s jail cell with the key, the game seems to freeze after Raina completes her dialogue.

4. Whenever you enter the goblin main hall (Where I presume the gobilin leader is), the game seems to be stuck and refuses to progress any further.

5. I don’t know if this is intentional or not, but whenever you enter a restricted area for the first time, (Guards in the first village or the Gobilin guards at the entrance to the gobilin village) the game initially treats it as if you hadn’t unlocked the area at first, but then you are able to still proceed like normal.

Certainly does a good job at focusing on the ‘survuval crafting’ element. Failed to take the crafting aspect into account and tried to do the Goblin mission not long after starting. Spent most of the time avoiding enemies, used up all my free Bloat-Cures to keep Ariana alive and still needed to reload twice because she exploded. Once getting there, once on the way back because I realised ‘I need to grind resources before fighting those centaurs’.

Also, most likely an issue on my end, but loading seems to take ages.

Also-also, can’t seem to fill Empty Flasks, but am sure you’re aware of this.

Also-also-also, minor typo.

You can revive her with the item “Magical Tape” from shops! And yeah, both the typo and flask issue will be fixed in the next patch!

I’m looking into the long load times error, as I’ve had a few people report it, but that likely won’t be fixed in time for the next patch. It seems to only affect a few people for whatever reason, but its likely a memory leak somewhere in the game (possibly due to auto-save) so I’ll still need some time to look into it fully!

Thanks, mate. Also, am I doing something wrong? Because the ‘kill 6 slimes’ mission isn’t concluding. Also, two points where no collission exists on a raised platform in the area centaurs start spawning and if you haven’t started the mission to actually get into the Goblin’s camp (as in 'spoke to Ariana after crafting the masks. Couldn’t do it in one attempt since she kept following me instead of staying near the craftswoman, weird glitch, seems like a one-off thing potentially caused by holding down Z to skip dialogue), one of the tiles to the entrance still lets you get in without being denied by the guards. Can engage with various side quests, but game freezes when you enter the chieftesses hut.

Edit; Three, one to the right as well.

Hi, just recently began playing the demo. Something I got confused about was where to go to exit the village, because it honestly wasn’t overtly obvious where the path to the forest was. I figured it out to be at the bottom left section of the area, but I was convinced before I ran into the walls that there was no exit there.

Yeah, I’m working on some exit markers for zones since I’ve gotten a lot of complaints about the lack of clarity!

Patch 1.0.3 is LIVE! This patch addresses a lot more bugs, and comes with a native MAC version of the game! The old Alpha demo of the game has also been depreciated and removed from itch.io! It’ll remastered back into the main game with updated sprites & dialogue eventually.

IIRC, weren’t there plans for a gender toggle at some point? I’m waiting to play the game until there is one, and I thought I remember somewhere that there’s one planned.

The third race, the greenish slime-looking one, has a gender toggle. IDK about the human and bunny races.

I’ve never planned on adding one, as it’d slow down development massively. There are too many sprites for either gender to make it really a viable option, unfortunately.

Fair. So any given race is either going to be male OR female?

Apologies, but is the ‘Lost her Locket’ quest possible? Might be blind, having a hard time locating it. (Located Sentinel, Gunslinger and Mage classes.)

Also, until an update where Ariana can leave our party on her own, the tape is incredibly useful, sometimes we just want to roam without companions.

For the gender toggle I just mean enemies & NPCs. Most player races will have both options available.

For the locket quest, I’ve had reports from some people saying they haven’t found it. The code seems good, but I’ll check again since it can spawn in like six different places around the map, randomly.
