The Tower of Gluttony [v1.5] - Text-based WG Roguelike

Update 1.3

Changelog

  • Find powerful ability-enhancing accessories (only one can be equipped at a time).
  • New encounters:
    • a blacksmith that will upgrade a weapon in exchange for a certain item.
    • a shadowy figure who will give you a powerful accessory in exchange for a permanent reduction of your max health.
    • a scientist studying the tower who wants you to be her test subject.
    • encounter a bunch of new fellow adventurers, whose dialog varies depending on your weight.
  • Three new enemy types (Imps, Feeder fairies, Thorny flowers).
  • Changes to the layout of the tower
    • There’s now an extra 20 encounters before the final boss, making the game slightly longer.
    • The way encounters are picked is now slightly less random to make difficulty more consistent between runs.
  • Improved the layout of the inventory screen.
  • After beating the game you have the option to continue in ‘endless mode’
    • lets you keep playing in order to see all the weight stages and to see how far you can go.
  • A whole heap of tweaks and balance changes.

Uhh…I don’t think he’s into enormous girls, honestly

Not enormous… but at least completely immobile, 'cause there just barely mobile weight stage but not an immobile one, that’s what i’m talking about

Nice update, the accessories and new enemies make a fine addition, especially the imp and fairy duo. The only lacking thing imo is the visual representation of Queen of gluttony as she has only 3 weight stages and they look vastly inferior in size compared to the player’s.

Great work so far! The roguelike elements are really well done. Looking forward to continued progress :+1:

There’s a bug where if you upgrade your bow, the bow can no longer be used in battle. It can still be looked at in the inventory, but it’s basically gone.

love the latest update but i think you need to add new events that undo the progression of our character if they get too fat for the tower potentially adding the choice to go back down if we start getting way too big and making it a fight of our waistline and being trapped inciting the unique dangers of this place

Would anybody know how to beat the “Gastromancer” boss?

My strategy is:
–Make sure i have a sword that does at least 10 damage (preferably 15) with high accuracy
–Always take out the minions (cake monster and healing stew) asap
–Don’t try to eat any instance of a minion more than once unless you have really high agility. You will waste a lot of turns and could end up in a spawn loop
–Put most of my level-up points into Agility and/or Accuracy

Update 1.4

Hi everyone, I’m back with a new update! Sorry for the long gap between updates and for being so inactive (has it really been a year since the last update?). I took a bit of a break from development which went on longer than originally planned. Anyway, I think this is the biggest update yet in terms of content, so hopefully that makes up for it somewhat!

Changelog

  • A whole new section of the tower:
    • 5 additional floors with new weapons and enemy types.
    • A new boss with a unique gameplay mechanic.
  • New encounters:
    • Meet a fairy who can join you on your quest and you can feed for a magical buff (11 weight stages).
    • Navigate a dark room using senses other than sight to avoid traps.
    • Stumble upon a demonic business meeting.
    • 2 new adventurers you can meet during your ascent.
  • The Saccharine Sorceress boss has been slightly revamped, and is now the second boss (swapped with the Gastromancer), with appropriate balance tweaks.
  • More weight related flavor text throughout the game.
  • New ending if you beat the game after reaching the maximum weight stage.
  • Lots of the existing images in the game have been remastered using newer AI image generation techniques, improving the quality.
  • A new header displaying important stats such as health that appears when playing with the sidebar stowed. Should improve the experience on narrower devices such as smartphones.
  • A whole bunch of other small tweaks basically everywhere.

Got this popping up during a bossfight, and also when I try to save?

The fake glasses accessory (+2 charisma) is bugged. If you replace it with a second accessory, you keep the 2 charisma letting you gain infinite charisma by swapping back and forth.
I didn’t get the mana accessory in this update, but I assume it is also still bugged in the same way.
