Usually with these kind of games, the player doesn’t get to change the character’s name until it becomes relevant, usually right when that character is introduced. For example, at the beginning of the game the player would only get to input their name and possibly Alice’s. (You could maybe add a choice here where you ask the player if they want to customize the characters’ names or just use the defaults so they can skip all of the naming prompts). The player would then be prompted to change Hannah’s name when you first see her at Cafe or even afterward since you don’t actually get her name until the second meeting. Although I do agree that replacing all the names with the proper variable would probably be very time consuming for little benefit at this stage of development.
That actually seems more in character for Ice Cream Parlor girl… whose name I have forgotten as it’s been too long since I played .7. Or Character-Formerly-Known-As-Lacey.
“Hard coded” means it’s not using variables at the moment - everything is plain text. Converting the game to allow user-provided names would, at minimum, require pulling a “find and replace” operation to swap out every instance of “Default Character Name” in the script with a variable… and then heavy QA to make sure nothing broke because of the swap.
It’s only the dialogue blocks that would need a variable replacing the name with ren’pys basic string interpolation. So a line where some says “Hello Alice” would just become “Hello [name]”. Everything else like $aliceweight would stay the same because they happen behind the scenes.
Which would actually only complicate matters, unless the dialog and code are in separate files.
Also, a pox on anyone who uses “no case” for their variable and function names.
Was working on some renders when the news about Ozzy broke.
Small tribute to a genuine rock god…
edit rat salad! Posted the wrong one with her legs cut off!
Oh damn. Apparently this is where I come for news now lol. A true legend. While I don’t generally care for his music I do like a few tracks and he made a great undeniable contribution to music. He will be missed.
Same. I just got the news from here as well. Ozzy will be missed.
This is awesome. Black Sabbath is my favorite band, and Ozzy one of the greatest entertainers of the last century. It’s a sad day for the music world.
Haha, I guess nobody picked up on my unsbutle quote of the title of one of Sabbath’s songs ![]()
I’ve been a Sabbath fan for, well, let’s say longer than I’d care to admit. Had the pleasure of seeing them a long time ago (not with Ozzy sadly), as well as seeing Ozzy a couple of times as a solo artist.
All together now… ‘Let’s go fuuuuuuuuuuuuucking CRAZY!’
All ABBBOOOOAAAAARRRRDDDD!!!
Why not do custom morphs with shape keys in blender? There’s bridge tools you can use to import and export. I imagine it would give you greater creative freedom over appearances. Sorry if someone has already brought it up before, there’s almost 5K messages, so I don’t know if there’s already a response to that.
Yep, that’s been brought up a few times. And my answer is the same as ever - I’d like to do something like that, but it would take way way too long.
Remember those two packages aeon soul made about getting dressed or undressed? Turns out chris cox does something similar only he calls it “special” or “undone” meaning it never appeared on any google searches for “undressed” or “get dressed”…
Yeah daz3d’s store has basically zero search features. Now why do I care about any of this? Well wardrobe malfunctions can be hard to get right in daz, but if a clothing item already comes predesigned to be removed, well you only need to remove it for a reason other than the one the author had in mind ![]()
Legit overweight metal/goth look = P
If you need those harsh edges and peaks that appear when you push a model to larger sizes rounded out I can make a custom morph in zbrush for you that fixes them. You can get characters up to pretty nutty sizes this way.
@SexyFatGirlRenders Thanks! I actually have a couple of those, but there are a lot that I didn’t know about! Of course I’m sure the morphs are designed for skinny girls, but I like a challenge! Might have to pick a few of them up next time I’m splashing out on (yet more) Daz assets!
@Schattenjaeger Exactly the look I was going for. She is a rock chick, after all!
@oceanaga I really appreciate the offer, but there are already thousands of renders in the game and I really don’t want to rerender a lot of them.
Maybe going to concerts could be a date or happen in the plot at some point? It’d be nice to see a concert and jam out to some music with Alice
Would probably make sense for the MC and (formerly)Lacy to go out to one since she’s so into music, but could totally be a group outing if @tiggertoo was to include Alice in the event. Also with the concept of it being a concert it would likely just be a one off event, unless you do something like the MC and (formerly)Lacy going to a pub that has a live music night at it. Since both the MC and her drink regularly and she’s into music might be the better way to go if you wanted a music oriented repeatable date type thing.
Hey @tiggertoo, loving the game but just ran into a bug and curious if it’s something anyone else has seen. Starting with the 4th stage, I’m no longer getting photos sent to me by Alice when they’re supposed to come through, according to the guide. Is there something I can do to reactivate them coming through?
