Vanessa's Nightmare - Currently a WIP

Vanessa’s Nightmare is a psychological action-adventure game where players delve into the mind of Vanessa, a 27-year-old editor for a prominent blogging website, who struggles to maintain control over her life amidst overwhelming stressors and temptations. After a particularly trying week, Vanessa finds herself slipping into her old ways of coping, awakening trapped within her own twisted mind—a place where her deepest fears and darkest desires have taken physical form.

The game begins in The Conscience, Vanessa’s mental battleground, where core and lesser values—such as Self-Control, Discipline, and Moderation—are represented by glowing pillars. These pillars are the foundation of Vanessa’s well-being, but they have been corrupted and swapped with their antitheses by Ephrasia, a seductive demon who embodies excess, gluttony, and indulgence. Ephrasia’s goal is to plunge Vanessa into a life of excess, leading to her ultimate downfall.

Players must guide Vanessa through haunting, nightmare-like versions of her past memories—such as a debaucherous college party or a luxurious vacation—each warped by Ephrasia’s influence. Armed with a mystical warhammer gifted by Soul—the rational entity in charge of the values of Vanessa’s conscience (along with Heart, the half of Vanessa that embodies emotions and desires)—players will battle grotesque enemies born from Vanessa’s fears, including sentient food, corrupted memories, and monstrous versions of people from her past.

Throughout the journey, players will need to reclaim the stolen core values and restore the pillars within The Conscience to bring Vanessa back from the brink of self-destruction. However, the path is fraught with danger. Vanessa’s long-repressed urges resurface, making her susceptible to the temptations of overindulgence, which players must carefully manage. If the player can’t restore the values before Vanessa awakens in real life, she will be damned to a life of gluttony.

Mechanics (not an exhaustive list):
No health system; the game is weight-based. Players must manage Vanessa’s weight as enemies try to fatten her up to immobility
9 unique weapons to combat adversaries
Collectibles, from weapons and values (that hold perks) to pieces of story
Puzzles that feature weight management and tactics

Gameplay:
Left-to-right progression side-scroller (similar to The Last Stand zombie games)
Jumping, walking, crouching, melee, climbing
7 planned levels, numerous bosses and a final boss

Platform:
GODOT

I really wanna play it so cool more fat I love it so much give it 999 stars

Sounds very interesting, although I’m usually wary of fetish games where the purpose is not to get fat

The idea seems very original, and you’ve obviously put a lot of thought into this. I can’t lie though, I’d much rather play as Ephrasia (or one of her servants) and be the one influencing bad habits.

I understand, but sometimes we need to break the mold and bring something fresh to the scene. I appreciate the acknowledgement; I’ve worked my ass off with my homies the past 2 weeks haha!

Anyone out there with level design layout experience? I could use you as an advisor or even as a coordinator/creator for level design. I have a general concept in mind but for the final product we need to map out the levels. DMs open.

||fed up with the chickenshit rules & it’s a waste of time anyway. BBw-chan it is, I guess.||

I’m not here to spread nor encourage hatred.

Alrighty, figured I’d do an update.

We lowered it to 9 weapons and we figured out all the values and perks for them. Subject to change though, since we haven’t started coding.

Almost done with the rough draft for the script which is exciting.

Still open interviews for artists and those who are familiar with Unity game engine.

Hey, it’s been a little while. No, the project isn’t dead.

Script is still being worked on, but game mechanics have been worked out, as well as enemies, weapons, and power-ups. Just need to finalize the 1st draft of the script and from there we will have to build the game using placeholder assets until we get some artwork in. We have concept art of Ephrasia and one of her minions (no spoilers, now!), and a general idea of Vanessa and some lesser enemies. The goal is to create a few-minutes-long demo with the core gameplay mechanics as a proof-of-concept. Then, from there, we’ll flesh out the game.

Slow-going, but as I said, not in a rush. We’re just a small team of guys and gals getting our feet wet with dev work. We aren’t exclusive either, so if you want to work on this project with us send a DM and I’ll see about adding you to the team.

Heya, dudes and dudettes!

Yep, we’re still alive. Like I mentioned, this is a passion-project with no hard deadline, so we are taking our time to make it right.

However, things are still progressing. Level 1 is going to be fully mapped out soon, which gets us another step closer to finishing this game. I might tease some enemies, characters, etc. I’m not sure yet. I want to show you guys progress instead of just typing it out.

Overall, there isn’t a ton of updates, but I also wanted to let you all know that we are still working on it. Feel free to ask questions or send me a DM if you are interested in working on this project.

My right-hand lady and I will be working out the project timeline, budget, and milestones, and on January 1st, 2025, I hope to hit the ground running with the team.

Keep tuned in! We’ll have updates along the way.

Hey everyone, unfortunately due to IRL circumstances we have lost our artist (he didn’t die, just can’t be a part of the project anymore). So the position is open again. If interested, please DM me and we will talk in depth about the project and what is being asked.

Thank you for the continued support!

Hey all!

Nope, still not dead.

I’m just taking it slowly, gathering funds to pay for services. Mainly art. I’ve number-crunched and determined how much I should need and it isn’t a small amount, so this development might take a long while. However, the coder and I will continue to mock up some base code and use temporary assets to get the game moving.

Thank you for your continued support! I’ll post an update every once in a while to let you guys know what is up.
