Video Website Alternatives to YouTube

Exactly what it says on the tin. A list of video sharing/streaming alternatives to YouTube, and possibly Twitch if what speculations I’ve been hearing are true.

That’s all for now. Leave in the comments any suggestions you might have and I’ll update the list.
Edit: Thanks for the correction, admin! Genuinely, I had no idea where to put this list.
Edit 2: I also added some spare social media sites that can be used in lieu of Twitter or Bluesky, or any website if creators want to build a stronger community.

peertube comes to mind. it is a federated way to host videos. I’m not sure what instances exists though. there is also pornhub or similar sites I guess

I haven’t heard, what speculations are you referring to exactly?

Don’t recall who said it exactly, but some have given the theory that Twitch could get shut down, which I shouldn’t be too surprised by. A few YouTubers I follow have gone over news about the site, like how its owners are saying the site isn’t profitable, probably due to the Twitch-thot controversies as well as the unfair moderation, and how the whole “artfully nude” situation went down: basically, for a full 24 hours streamers abused a temporary addendum to the TOS to allow what was basically porn on the site, since it was somewhat an open secret for the longest time now that it was the latest “babies first porn show” (a trend that is not new - National Geographic was originally so successful because it was a minor secret young boys could look at naughty pictures - back in the 60s). Which was also Twitch’s biggest revenue stream, out of both young and old males.
So, after all these streamers became temporary streakers, admins on the site realized the fuck up and updated the TOS to rectify this. But for 24 hours, viewers could find a random stream where a live action dude or a Vtuber could let it all hang, boobs, nuts, and all.

I tried looking into it and I think this stuff happened a year or two ago. Still, its a good idea to have alternative sites for hosting videos.

I’ve seen some animators use file sharing sites (like Catbox, Dropbox, and Megaupload) and just link directly to those videos from their galleries. There’s also running your own websites and posting your videos/interactives there, like Doom the wolf and SpruceTheDeer.

Basically, these are to YouTube as Bluesky is to Twitter/X, right?

Pretty much. We’re not being censored for naughty stuff, so I find it the better option, especially if we want to get more eyes of our own kind on the site.
