I’m surprised that nobody has yet to try making a cinematic platformer with fat and/or inflation themes, by cinematic platformer I mean the genre that includes games such as original prince of Persia and Oddworld, slower paced platformers that have an emphasis on having real weight behind your movement and a (slightly) more realistic animation, weight behind movement and animation themes are just about perfect for an animator who’d want to show their stuff drawing wobbly chonkers as their movements get more heavy but also getting abilities that use that weight to their advantage, tribal hunter is the closest thing we have, but is distinctly different
I’m bias for furries but of course human animators are free to use this idea too, some ideas for weight based abilities is running into a breakable wall to hip check it or do the same to enemies, a heavier attack with a fat tail, floaty movement for inflation and a further or higher jump, the classing of landing on top of enemies, grabbing onto certain platforms, ledges, or pulleys that need extra weight for something to happen, or that need you to slim down again so you can gain it back later, and this can work for many different settings that involve weight gain!
I think the reason they aren’t really a thing is because they take a lot of effort (especially if you have multiple fat levels) and they are a bit “out of fashion”
I think it would be neat if a fat cinematic platformer would have an unconventional platforming style like bionic commando (no jumping, but you have a grappling hook). a fat character wouldn’t really be able to jump anyways in a game with the extra weight the genera has :P
Fair fair, but an undertaking like that would probably be a good challenge for an experienced animator and game dev, I just kinda miss / am nostalgic for those kind of games
The main part of any weight gain game is weight gain fetish. What most people want to see in weight gain games? Of course how characters get fatter. What is the core gameplay of any platformer? Of course it is level/puzzles design and character movement. No one would create a platformer with the purpose of showing of realistic animations of fat character moving around, because it is not a reason of why player could like this game genre. Also, being a good level designer and good 3d artist at the same time is like a miracle. So, the Tribal Hunter is the only one game which we all have and it is not even about weight gain, but about inflation. SodaSorbet definitely is a miracle and even for him it took years to finish Tribal Hunter, but he is a famous artist and was able to get funds for game development from his patrons which was the main reason of why we was able to play in finished product. Even if somewhere there is a skilled person who can make a platformer with weight gain there is a small chance this person have many patrons who can support game project with money.
I was thinking more in terms of momentum for movement and effects of your weight on what you interact with since climbing up a ledge would be difficult if it’s not strong enough to support your weight, and barely and speed decrease, as well as puzzle elements revolving around increased and decreased size, if any upgrades would be in the game they would be something like weight training for higher weights being introduced throughout the game to play around with increasing and decreasing fatness while getting a progressively larger max size to open more of the area, but I supposed this would be a team effort though
