WeirdoBeardo Games - Now letting go

As it stands at the moment it has become hard to defend spending time on game production when my time is better spent on a second job to make ends meet.

I will be fine either way. If my time as a game developer is over, so be it. I’ve enjoyed making what I have made, and will keep supporting and enjoying what all of you guys produce as well.

More updates at the end of this post for those interrested. If not: have a good day.

I have played a few of your games and really like them. That said, it’s really hard for me to use Quest because I don’t have a windows computer. I had to setup a whole virtual environment to play the games in the past, and it’s a big barrier.

The creator of Quest is back and working on the programming of it again. He is promising some sort of html export functionality in the future, bur only time would tell on that.

I will add a windows tag to the topic just in case anyone else are non-windows users.

Great games! I have most of them already but this’ll incentivise me to play them again

I was made aware of an issue with new Life in the Fat Lane where the girls don’t move as they should, hindering progress. Dug out the files for the first time in a while and believe I got it fixed. New version with the fix applied is up.

My discord and comments are still open for feedback and bug reports, but I can’t promise how quickly I’ll get to them.

A very small update to Gods of Sin have also gone up. All images of patrons and friends I’ve made over the years are now in and viewable as a small tribute to the people that made the games I made possible over the years.

I really look forward to seeing the final version of roadtrip woes, maybe 1 or 2 more bad endings to be encountered during the trip. Maybe that feeder grandma or a streaming related one.

I have one more bad ending planned if I can get it to work. We’ll have to see
For now taking the time to get properly into the code is a bit too much work while working two jobs.

Been a while, and some of you may already know this but; I have decided to completely withdraw from game development. There are a few reasons for this.

The reasons

  1. Developing games takes time, energy, and even in the small way I did it, money. With next to no money coming in to begin with, and my only source of extra income being nuked when itch shut down the way it did, it just isn’t feasible for me to spend the hours needed besides work to make things happen anymore.
  2. I’ve become somewhat disillusioned with the community as a whole lately. There seems to be a constant squabbling, mostly lead by some of the stronger and more opinionated commenters out there. I still enjoy a lot of the creators and their output here on weight gaming, but some of you guys commenting and getting all uppetty simply need to take a break from the internet for a few days and reset a bit. Take a breather.
  3. Over the last couple of years there have been pretty constant attacks on some of the methods I’ve used in my game development. While I understand the sentiment: it just gets tiring after a while, and I’m tired of even trying to explain myself anymore.
  4. As you guys know I have always had some of my own mental issues to deal with, and the way things are now: staying online in a bigger capacity simply isn’t good for me anymore.

What now?
My Patreon and link-tree is already taken down a while ago. My reddit, discord, ko-fi and other socials will go the way of the dodo soon.

Games will be kept up on itch, but anyone expecting any sort of update to anything, or anything new for that matter, will probably go wholly unsatisfied. Comments may be turned off on itch to save myself frustration, but that will be somewhere down the line if it happens.

My profile on here will stay up, but except for checking in once in a while won’t be used much anymore. Feel free to message me if you’d like, but anything negative or nasty will simply be ignored.

The end.
That is my rambling way of saying bon Voyage. I feel a bit like the genie at the end of the movie Aladdin, casting of my shackles and zooming off into space, and to be honest: it’s freeing.

I’ll see you guys around.

A final simple update.

Discord, Reddit, Link-Tree, Patreon and Ko-Fi and my links on here are all down. Comments have been turned off on itch, as I experienced yet another round of bots spamming fake links (a rising and very annoying problem on itch in general). You can still comment on updates if you really want to. At least for now.

This process has been freeing, and I am honestly considering taking it all down and being rid of this part of my life all together. What I mean by that is that my games may simply disappear for anyone who haven’t already paid for them. Those who own them will still be able to redownload from their libraries, but that would be about it. I’ll see where my fancies take me over the weekend

I’m not going to be like “this part of your life is toxic” but most well adjusted adults don’t really do … this. If you enjoy it, continue, but if you think you have the means to break free and have enjoyment in healthier avenues, please, be the best you that you can be.

If you feel better taking it all down. That is okay. Would rather you feel good and free then to work on stuff that is stressing you out.

As a bit of a fellow old head these days that still remembers when Quest games were way more prevalent, I’d like to thank you for your contributions towards keeping text adventure traditions going, even if I wasn’t a fan of some of the choices taken down the line to speed up production/branch off games; chose to stay quiet about that and I’m glad I did!

I might reach out down the line if I ever need a second experienced pair of eyeballs on something, but I think it’s definitely best to relax and let the urge to take everything here seriously fade away. At the end of the day, this is a niche space and that niche-ness also makes it a magnet for weird people and less-than-healthy attitudes. It does not deserve to take up too much of anyone’s faculties, devs & non-devs alike!
