What do you want in fat characters?

I dunno, it just seems like what I look for is totally different from what other people look for. I see a lot of content with characters that are immobile, bloblike and disproportionate, and, honestly, that’s just not what I look for. The fatfur characters I tend to like are round, squishy, goofy, boisterous, love getting punched and laughing it off, etc. Things that are cartoonish, charming, over-the-top in personality. Sometimes proud of being fat, sometimes proud of being ugly, and feel the need to proclaim their fatness and ugliness as a pinnacle of power, even going as far as to do it “in song form!” These guys can be big, ugly, intimidating and whatnot, but they can also look comfortable and cute, covered in fur or a big, rumply reptile belly ready to accept a hug. Their sizes range from legless balls with rolls of fat around the feet to more realistic proportions with legs and whatnot, but are usually in the realm of proportion.

And, yet, that doesn’t seem to be what others like in fat characters. I see a lot of people do happen to like those blobbish, over-exaggerated types of characters who are not bound to shape, and even get bigger through eating food (something else my characters usually don’t do). Part of me wants to make this topic for different opinions. What do they want in fat characters, and why do they like those kinds of designs?

People’s fetishes depend on various factors. Generally, the main reasons include associationism (conscious or not !) and operant conditioning (along with many others like biology, coping mechanisms, sensation-seeking, etc.). For example, associating eating with a comforting or feeling of pleasure can lead to specific preferences. Soft, comfortable things often evoke positive sensations too. Sometimes, even a weirdish’ cartoon episode can trigger dormant tendencies… these are just a few examples, there are hundreds of others
(Little edit before posting : dormant tendencies are not a theory that I have seen confirmed nor denied, last time i checked. An alternative theory would be our sensivity to novelty for exemple.)

These patterns are generally similar across humans, which is why you often see similarities in different types of fetishes. Many people share a similar “base”, then you add personal affinities and life experiences to create a unique “cocktail” of preferences. This is why, for instance, some people likes immobility while others doesn’t, or why fetishes evolve and hold different meanings according to people.

People within a fetish community often share many similarities because of these patterns, caused by our very humanity (similar brain, mechanism, bias etc…), even if our tastes and the reasons behind them vary. This also explains how someone might discover fetishes they do like without even knowing they existed beforehand, by browsing online or on fetish sites : certain fetishes can fulfill your underlying “expectations”. Like some sort of “tendancies”.

Personally and in comparaison, I like the ideas of gluttony (hunger) and “progress.” A “blob” might be someone who abandonned themselve to gluttony (or been forced to, in some cases). I enjoy feminine shapes, so I appreciate some “logic” (my logic) and “beauty” in the body. This is why I’m not sensible to “blueberry” or “balloonish” body, i think, to only respond to the original scope of your post.

I tried to keep this clear, tho english isn’t my first language, so it’s a bit challenging to be as clear and synthetic as I’d like to be. Hopefully, this gives you some hints on the “why" and answers a little more than the initial scope of your question.

Have a good day / night.

@Heroyne Nice speech, pretty much sums up everything …

I don’t like blobs either, and i have a limit for weight gain and fullness too. Theese borders are sometimes can move, depending on the circumstances.
I am now working on a pretty fat to immobile model, it is hard for me as i like round shapes, but as i learn new things i understand more about natural weight gain.
Maybe the people here think that more is better, or if their partner can’t move, they can push her even futher into gluttony. The idea of fattening someone up is exciting for me too, but as i mentioned i created a border, both morally and health wise.
Another one could be that the forums name attracts more fat admirers than other fetishes…
It is called weight gaming, and people who likes only round, bloated, pregnant bellies would never stumble upon the site at all… Thus making the content mostly unstoppable weight gain…

Absolutely. When I first saw this site, I thought it would be exclusives to weight gain. I’m sure many people with different flavor of deviantart kink would think the same and creating a catch-22 where lack of user leaves out unfilled niches. Hell, I didn’t even know up until this very point that weight gaming also hosts other stuff aside from weight gain.

I don’t know if that played in my taste one way or another, but my fetish appeared in me really early. In fact, before my puberty or at the very begining. So of course, it just started as being intrigued, somehow weirdly attracted to the idea that someone can gain weight, without telling anybody. And then my sexuality was built on this, and enjoying the “normal” things happened after.
At least, it gave a lot of time to reflect on what I like the most. So, even though I obviously enjoy a lot chubby and fat women, the core of my fetish is in the weight gain itself, the progress of it. What’s interesting in it is that I enjoy a fat character way more if they were thinner before (especially if they were thin, or normal healthy weight before).
And the progress that I like is actually not only in the body, but also in mind and behaviour. I really enjoy seeing the girl progressively get a bigger appetit, enjoy more and more the fattenning food, get less sporty, lazier, eventually less mobile… All the characteristic someone might develop while gaining weight, and that helps the weight gain in the end.
There’s also another thing, which is if the character wants or not to gain weight. I find that both can be appealling, but my favorite is a mix and, once again, a progress. I especially like when the character doesn’t like the idea of gaining weight (like most people afterall), but slowly understands the appeal of it and enjoy it more and more.
So I guess that to make a short answer, what I like in fat characters is that it’s a stage of a weight gain, and a witness of it.

I like my fat characters to be:

  • Unstoppable forces of bottomless greed and hunger whose only interest is eating and growing bigger
  • Soft, huggable, and gentle caregivers that I can collapse into after a hard day while they stroke me and tell me everything will be ok
  • Mischievous shortstacks who are utterly shameless about how fat they are
  • Cute dumb nerds that are quite flustered about how fat they are

And many more archetypes. If you were to ask “How big?” the answer is “Bigger.” Shape is a bit trickier, but as long as it’s not overly spherical or blueberry inflation, and there’s some degree of balance to it (EG a hyper pear build is nice but literally only assfat weight gain is a bit awkward) then chances are high I’ll be into it

Yeah. I can get behind some of those. A lot of my fat characters tend to use their size and fatness as a form of hype and intimidation, even going as far as to hype up their fatness “in song form!”
