Bought the game, had a looksee at the modding stuff and… it’s pretty trivial to make basic stuff, though there’s little to no documentation outside of example mods. I’ve already written out a custom character and a custom mystery wouldn’t be much extra effort.
That said, there’s still some missing things that prevent a really full-bodied mod mystery…
- Custom items (would allow for more unique rewards for events/mysteries and of course, fattening treats)
- Custom injuries/curses (this would potentially be enough to hack in a full weight gain/loss system into the game)
- Custom allies (being able to recruit
sacrificesfat kids at the school or reward followers would be cool) - More custom character options/details (atm, I don’t know if custom characters can be designed to start with specific items or other more complex starting options unlike some existing characters, as well as if it’s possible to have custom char art that changes based on injuries, curses etc)

There are curses and items that change the display sprite so worst case scenario it would just need some creative layering

we can still make believe like with stellaris.
but for the most part cursed or injuried (alonside some masks) modify the sprites.

We could use the alternate outfits on custom characters to emulate weight gain from events like in this mod or any other mod people make for the game. Like the default outfit A is thin, B is pudgy, C is fat etc… Not perfect, but without custom curses and custom curse overlays, that would be the best we can do for now.

Okay I tried my hand at it, and here’s a little PSA about making custom characters. Make sure you get your proportions correct first (make a stick figure or something out of basic shapes and export that into the game before you really start making the sprites). Looking at the example character’s portrait file is a bit deceiving. The portrait at the corner of the screen during gameplay is a cropped version of the portrait file, the full thing is only seen in the mirror when changing outfits. Also, don’t make it too wide or else you’ll start obscuring the character stats. This means that if you want to see more of the character in the bottom right of the screen, you need to draw at a small scale both length and width wise.
Ideally you will want to draw the character at an angle looking either up at the character or down on the character. This to reduce the height of drawing, so you can fit more detail in the Sprite work.

Yeah you can, since each outfit is a separate file, all you need to do draw at the desired shape, but be careful when doing it, read my post above the sprite if you’re thinking about doing it yourself.

You make a file named character in lowercase in the game file and you put the contents in that folder.
